Store "Hole" Feedback

I lurked your wall and tried to get Minority Report in 4K -- only to discover that it’s just HD in the store.
Yeah that’s a strange one. I got the upgrade notification first thing in the morning and did it, then the 4K was removed from the store for whatever reason later that day but since I grabbed it I have it.

Have you watched it in 4K? I bought it and watched it and in my opinion it did not look 4K. Maybe that’s why it was removed.

I agree with this. I watched this when it first hit the store in 4K and thought that the transfer was rough in certain parts, where it didn’t look 4K or even HD quality. Still a great movie, but was expecting a better transfer. I haven’t watched the Blu-ray disc in awhile, so can’t say for sure if this version is the same or lesser quality than the disc.

I remember it always having a nice grain layer to it. I just scanned it while the theater was on and it looks REALLY grainy to me, which is how I remember it looking when we watched pre-4K release.

Really hard telling what’s going on since it’s not 4K anywhere else.

Hello. I'm a new owner of Kaleidescape. I notice some of the movies that have Dolby Atmos on 4k Disc, only have 5.1 Sound on K-scape.....An example is Spiderman (Toby McGuire), first movie has 5.1 sound, the disc has Dolby Atmos sound for years. The remaining 2 have Atmos. Another that is very strange, the Jurassic Park movies...5 of the 6 have 5.1...Dominion is in Atmos. These have been on disc for years with Atmos (DTS-X would be acceptable as I think some of those were in DTS-X. Any idea as to why K-scape can't get the best possible audio when the discs have it?

I did sent K-scape an email asking about this, but so far no reply.....

This is from Mid-May when I first got my setup and had the same thoughts:
I provided the current list to a higher-level leader @ KScape and he thanked me and said he forwarded my message to the content team and their senior management team "to provide as much visibility as possible."

That said he did mention that providing the immersive track "is often not a priority for the studios" so of course there are other factors at play.

Kinda pushy I know but it seems like immersive audio has been a bit of an afterthought for such an organization usually laser focused on the quality of the content provided.

I'm just happy to be heard and that they're going to try to acquire what they can in the future. Very cool! (y)
205 titles were on that list. I'm not declaring victory or anything but they have upgraded a handful of the listed titles in the last couple months. I'm sure they're working to acquire what they can get.

Although K is most often compared to discs due to quality of audio/video, the K Store is a digital movie store. The contents are best compared to other digital stores like the Apple TV App (iTunes) and Fandango-at-Home (Vudu). If you check Apple, Fallen Kingdom and Dominion are the only Jurassic movies with Atmos tracks. In that case, it would appear that K's version of Fallen Kingdom is the only one lacking.

There's a lot of potential issues at play here... Digital vs. Physical offerings from the studios (and unknown motivations behind them), digital assets available to K and those actually selected by K (which may involve different costs), timing of releases (K may have acquired an asset when Atmos wasn't available and never updated), etc.

The unfortunate fact of the matter is that at times the offerings in the K Store are "less" than physical releases and even less than other digital stores. If the maximum quality is what you're seeking, it's important to drill down on each movie and make sure it has everything that you want to avoid disappointment in the purchase.

When you do see a release falling short of your expectations, send an email to: movies@kaleidescape.com

On the plus side, it appears that of all requests, K is most responsive to adding Atmos tracks. :)

Another "Hole" in a movie....Halloween 2018 - 4K has DTS-HD 5.1 audio. But the HD version on K-scape has the DTS:X version. It would seem if the HD version has DTS:X, the 4K should. The other 2 4K sequels have Dolby Atmos.

I posted this in the movies update thread as well, but maybe we should start including the titles that have had Dolby Vision added, or even put in a separate thread if better?

I noticed a few older titles like Insidious update overnight but wouldn’t have known otherwise without filtering on the non mobile website myself…..

Then there is the issue mentioned above where Dolby vision might now have been added, but with a lesser audio track than an HDR10 version?

Will get very confusing quick, thoughts friends?

If you would like to see all the movies with Dolby Vision, you can do that on the web store or in the mobile app. On the web, choose "Browse All" from the Movies menu, then choose Dolby Vision from the video filter menu:

On the mobile applications, tap the "hamburger" menu in the top right corner of the landing page, then Movies -> Browse All. Once that loads, tap the sort/filter button in the top-right, and select Video Quality. Tap change if necessary to change it to Dolby Vision.

Well, that's annoying. I formatted those images so they could all display side by side, and that's how they showed in the editor, but now they're one after the other. Oh well.

As an aside, I do recognize that there's not a way to sort that view to show the versions that have had Dolby Vision added. There is however, a way to see the movies that you own that are not downloaded to your system in Dolby Vision.

If you go to Manage -> My Movies on the web, or More -> My Movies on the app, select "Not downloaded to my system", and turn on the Dolby Vision filter, you'll see the movies that you own that are not on your system in Dolby Vision.

@MikeKobb Out of curiosity, does the scope of K's Dolby Vision efforts include 4K titles that were previously lacking HDR? Or, if K previously opted not to include HDR on a title, does that keep it off the list for an upgrade?

I believe it's primarily based on looking at the intersection of:
- Titles that have Dolby Vision available, and
- titles that are popular on our store.

Plus of course new titles going forward.

Another "Hole"in the Kscape movies....Skyscraper-Dwayne Johnson- 5.1 in K-Scape.
Atmos on other streaming services.

Unless something has changed, I don't think this thread is tracking missing immersive audio codec upgrades

I didn't read all 25 pages. I thought it did. I won't post any audio "holes". Thanks for letting me know.

Also, regarding Skyscraper or other similar content -- please keep in mind that sometimes a studio has a lossy Atmos asset available for streaming, but there is not a lossless Atmos asset (which is what we use) available to us. We do strive to add these if/when they become available.

Any idea what the hold up is on the new Studio Ghibli title, The Boy and the Heron? Been forever since it released in theaters and it even got a 4K disc release a month ago. Been looking forward to seeing that one.
