4K HDR Titles in K Store Missing Immersive Audio (Dolby Atmos/DTS:X)

I don't think they are going to have anymore DTS:X 4k titles anymore, the studios are not providing them with the mezzanine file, if they do provide object based audio then it's going to be Dolby Atmos instead, for example Jurassic World Dominion, Jumanji: The Next Level.

Also if you compare any of the titles missing Atmos, it's also not offered in Atmos on Vudu etc.
There are a lot of titles missing Atmos but are available on the streaming services. Silent Night (2023) is available in Atmos on Apple+ and on 4k Blu Ray.

I provided the current list to a higher-level leader @ KScape and he thanked me and said he forwarded my message to the content team and their senior management team "to provide as much visibility as possible."

That said he did mention that providing the immersive track "is often not a priority for the studios" so of course there are other factors at play.

Kinda pushy I know but it seems like immersive audio has been a bit of an afterthought for such an organization usually laser focused on the quality of the content provided.

I'm just happy to be heard and that they're going to try to acquire what they can in the future. Very cool! (y)

I think that by raising it directly you surely have the best chance of progress. May not prove to be an overnight affair but sounds like you are off to a good start.

On Atmos and the studios, I have always had the impression that it's only certain Directors etc that take it seriously. There are some very underwhelming attempts out there and some just don't bother at all. When done well it really lifts the movie and the experience for me. I would have to say that in our circle of friends and acquaintances, other than the committed movie theatre enthusiasts, 9 out of 10 know the name but have no idea what it means let alone appreciate it. It's 'us' that are out of step sadly :( Best of luck.

It's very disappointing that They Live only has PCM stereo for the 4K file. It seems like if Universal would get their act together a majority of the titles with insufficient audio files would be fixed.

Most Shout! Collector's Edition disc releases have exclusive attributes. Usually it's 4K and/or HDR/Dolby Vision, but it looks like it's Atmos for this one. All the other digital stores have the same audio as K.

If you care about audio (and most do) the disc has KScape beat as the ultimate way to watch most of these movies.

Now I'm not going to say that re-encoding these is trivial but unless I'm missing something the "we're waiting on the studio to provide the elements" sound byte doesn't hold up here. These would be readily noticeable audio improvements...worthy of the team's time. If they're being deprioritized due to lack of sales consider that there's a reason they're not selling to your quality focused client-base. OK...maybe not Cats... but the rest would likely see additional sales.

Safe to assume this list has already been shared directly to K?

None of this is a hit on K, but I would bet that they don't have a similar list in house. When you've got a company the size of Apple, you can be assured that there's people whose job it is to track and resolve stuff like this. But, with K, I can't imagine they can have someone spend time on these things on a regular basis, and I genuinely feel that the efforts of owners and fans in these area help us all.

Thanks for this!

Yeah, I really hate the notion that every title on the K Store needs to justify its existence in sales. I find the very idea absurd.

When I bought my first system, there were probably half a dozen titles that convinced me to take the plunge. Were each of those titles worth $20 or $2,000? Likewise, based upon how maybe a dozen titles were handled in the last year, I'm not yet purchasing another 72 TB (or larger) Terra. What was the value of those missed/lesser titles?

I think that bc of K's size, it would be easier for the persons responsible for asset management to keep track of which assets are lacking Dolby Atmos if the movie has it on disc. If I had to guess, I would imagine that the K asset team has a good sense of 4k movies they have that don't have the hi res Atmos track.

One of the K reps that is present on this forum has said in the past that hi res audio tracks that are missing from a 4k movie on K could be missing bc the audio track is a disc exclusive, the studio charges extra for hi res tracks or K has asked but not hasn't received anything from the studio.

Looking randomly at a bunch of these titles compared to the Apple Movie store (iTunes), there are plenty that don't have Atmos there either, which means the studio isn't giving them to digital stores. But there were also plenty that did have the Atmos track, so those should be available to K if they pressed the issue.

This is quite frustrating to me also. I bought a Strato V in the last few months and this is the first problem I noticed. I have a large disc collection and was planning to convert everything to K but I’m not sure about that now. There are more titles than what’s listed here also. Like the Looper and I think all of the Fast and Furious movies except the last couple. I don’t have a list off the top of my head but there are definitely more.

Purchased District 9 assuming it would have the Atmos track. My own fault for not checking. Back to the disc for me.

Hopefully it will added at some point.

No update expected, it's 5.1 only on all digital stores. :(

Maybe Sony will revisit it at some point with a new limited steelbook and revised digital release, but then we'll be dealing with K's history with such Sony releases (which is absolutely terrible).

That’s a shame.

Thanks for the info

Sigh, I bought many of these titles on K without first checking whether immersive audio was available on disc... if I had, I would have bought the discs instead.

Anyway, I noticed that for The Raid: Redemption, K has it in 4K, without Atmos. Checking other digital stores, they don't seem to have it in Atmos or 4K. So if K could get 4K while other stores couldn't, is there any chance K could get Atmos for this one too? I'm not getting my hopes up, just curious since this seems like an exception to the pattern of what's available digitally.

Just did Disc 2 Digital on the Raid Redemption as well and it indeed lacks the Atmos track which my 4K Steelbook copy does have :(

Any update on the DTS:X track of Lone Survivor? Planning to watch it soon but most likely will be on disc instead :(
Been DTS-HD 5.1 since it was added. I doubt it will change anytime soon. Watch on disc if you prefer the DTS:X track

I noticed that you’re based in Europe. There is a French 4k disc (M6) which also features atmos. It’s the only example (as far as I’m aware) which supports an atmos mix. The international versions are available with dts:X.

I have the US version with DtS:X and the aforementioned French disc with atmos and I felt they were both trading punches. There were certain aspects i preferred on the French disc like spaciousness and the transfer appeared to be tighter compared to the universal version.

Also worth noting that the French disc includes Dolby Vision; Universal is HDR10. But you should be pleased with either (immersive) version. This is a fantastic movie.
