Movie Updates

Prometheus (2012) HDR version updated

Changes in this update:
  • Audio and video improvements
I also noticed that something went down with this. Now all we need is Alien 3 Directors Cut in 4k and Aliens SE to go on sale for longer than 5 minutes so I can take advantage of it. Could do Abyss SE at the same time as Aliens SE is being discounted if folks are feeling generous!

Green Lantern (2011) from Warner updated to include DV with Dolby TrueHD Atmos
🤯
Strange, because I don’t see any DV/4K version; only HD with an atmos track. This is the theatrical version fwiw.

Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014) HDR version updated

Such a detailed update @MikeKobb. How do I know if I want these updates or not?! No way to know just blindly download it!

Interesting that I own this movie--and it is downloaded to my system in HDR--but I have not received the update. So @MikeKobb and others, is this is a DV-version update even though the post has HDR version updated?

That's my entire point - we shouldn't have to guess what is contained in these updates. It is astonishing to me that 1) @MikeKobb has ignored me six times now on requesting some input on a change log and 2) that people would downvote this. They actually don't want to know what are in the updates and just put complete faith and trust in a company that has bamboozled them into believing they are offering top tier transfers when it has been proven (and confirmed) it is not.

I apologize for being slow to answer your question -- as I posted a couple of weeks ago, much of the team was busy preparing for and then actually attending CEDIA Expo, and what time I had left for engaging with the forum has been largely monopolized by addressing some of the issues reported in the "Buyer's Guide" thread.

This is an example of a movie that was processed a long time ago where a revisit with our current "recipe" produces a better-looking picture. The HDR10 metadata was also previously incorrect and that has been fixed.

The challenge that we have in trying to provide more detailed information is that we have to strike a balance where the messaging is useful to all customers without being excessively technical or jargon-filled. Most customers don't have the background to understand something like "HDR10 metadata". "Audio and video improvements" describes what was updated on this title very well for a general audience.

Something at the level of detail of the video game release notes that you linked is definitely on the "excessively technical and jargon-filled" side of that fence. With that said, I don't think it's unreasonable to have an update history accessible somewhere.

If you own the movie and it's on your system, our update interface will tell you what has changed since the version that you have (even if there have been multiple updates), but as you've noted there's not currently a way for someone who doesn't have a version on their system to see anything about the history of a given movie. It's not something that seemed relevant when the update feature was designed, but it has become more relevant now that we have players like Strato E where most of your library is not downloaded most of the time.

We'll discuss as a team. I have some thoughts about how we might handle this.

I own this movie as well, and I do see an update offered. There's no Dolby Vision version, so the update definitely applies to the 4K HDR10.

Why not just send K-scape an email when you have issues instead of waiting for them to read the forum.

Pacific Rim just popped up with updates to A/V, and extras.

As communicated privately with @gadgetman, Kingsman: The Secret Service was actually updated last Friday, and he downloaded that update on the same day, so that's why it was not showing as having a pending update on his system today. I think the mention of it here in this thread was just delayed, which caused a little confusion.

Yep! This updates the Atmos audio to an improved version with better levels.

I appreciate your response to me earlier.

And I agree I'm not looking for game-level technical updates. But something along the lines of what you just posted would have me immediately going to purchase a title like that. That's all I'm looking for is a running log like that. This seems like a win-win all around. Everyone knows what improvements have been made and it shows potential customers (or current customers) that K is dedicated to continuous improvement of their titles.

Totally fair.

Currently, our update messages are pre-defined (they're not freeform text), so we don't have the flexibility to say more with things as they stand today. Obviously, software can be changed, but a change like that turns into a surprisingly large project (affecting our internal guide database tools, the database schema, the backend API, and the store front-ends). All this to say that it's not the sort of thing that we can change next week. But that's feedback we'll definitely take.

As a database manager and web developer I completely understand. Thanks again for the consideration.
