Movie Updates

Do you mean somewhere in the K app or webpage or in the K UI somewhere?
Either will give you the option to "update". You are normally notified of available updates when you first open the store, but in case you miss the notification you can access manually.

In the Web UI, click on "Manage" and navigate to the "Movie Updates" screen from there click on the title you want to upgrade and press "Begin Update".

Just had this chat with Shane and DJ last week. Lots of opinions and solutions and methodologies discussed.
I was able to catch up with this video last night. Let's see if I can summarize it easily...

@thrillcat: "Scope feels more cinematic to me, I want to watch everything in scope. I think VAR is a gimmick."
DJ: "I only like VAR when it's a storytelling device. I don't like VAR as a gimmick."
Shane: <Sits in his brand new theater with a permanent second projector mounted for 3D trying VERY hard not to say "I love gimmicks!">

No judgment, I'm right there with Shane... "But then the screen got BIGGER! It was SO cool!" Embrace it, William Castle approves. :)

You forgot to add:

YouTube Comment Section: "Christopher Nolan is a GOD take my money all of it I don't want it just give me more pixels with nothing important and I'll worship you forever because I just want more more more I get the 128oz Mountain Dew at the gas station 7 times a day because I get more for my money and I know it's bad for me and there's no redeeming factor but who needs teeth anyway I want MOAR!"

Is it a gimmick? The better question is, what movies and directors are mentioned in every single discussion about this topic? You don't think word of mouth is promotion? Is there such a thing as bad publicity? Does the variable aspect ratio create more online buzz about a film before its home video release?

Totally understood. And, even as a fan of gimmicks you'd have to look at Nolan releases and think "Shenanigans!"

I mean, VAR is your true intent but the digital versions are all scope (with the largest audience) while your discs (which are suffering from poor sales) have the VAR making them uniquely attractive to a specific audience? You only want your true vision shared with people shelling out for a 4K steelbook? I see what you're doing, Mr. Nolan. Don't get me wrong, it's working and I'm buying. But, I see. ;)

Well his true audience is 70mm IMAX which is what he really cares about and where he thinks his movies should be watched at which point it makes sense. VAR is one thing but the fact he refuses to embrace anything more than 5.1 audio because 70mm IMAX only does full range 5.0 (6.0 if you count the VOG speaker that he never uses) is the real crime.

Sure the audio tracks are always demo worthy but I’d love to hear him just let loose with an Atmos mix!

The Lord of the Rings I: The Fellowship of the Ring Extended Edition (2001) in HD from Warner Bros. updated to Dolby TrueHD Atmos from DTS-HD Master 6.1

Letters from Iwo Jima (2006)

Green Lantern (2011) from Warner updated to include DV with Dolby TrueHD Atmos
🤯

Weird. I own green lantern but im not getting an upgrade to 4k. It wants me to purchase at 24.00.

Maybe it’s because I own the extended version which doesn’t have a 4k upgrade 🤔

It's a separate/new title listing. The "old" listing is the Extended Edition in HD (see prior comments on HD theatrical cut). The new one is just the Theatrical Cut in 4K. If you scanned a disc you'd get a D2D price for both. However, if you simply bought the prior version on K then this new one is not currently an upgrade. (Warner is often very friendly with pricing so you could wait to see, but I think this falls into a "Amadeus" category.)

And it came out before the change to the store always remembers, so the disc was probably removed (and will need re-scanning.)

It was interesting to see updates for "audio/video improvements" to the E/V/Store promos. Were these just updated for referencing the M?
