KEAOS (Software) UPDATES

But the projector manufacturers don't add DV because there's no demand for DV as the best video source for projectors is K.

I think it actually relates to Dolby not having specifications for home projectors using Dolby Vision yet, and thus none of the manufacturers can add it, as Dolby would not license at this time. The manufacturers I have spoken to in the past would like too add, but no route yet.

Greetings all!

We’ve begun rolling out kOS 10.14.0 to all Strato, Terra, and Alto systems, with some exciting new functionality.

I know that a number of people here will be very happy to hear that we have made disc-to-digital much easier by adding the ability to catalog DVD and Blu-ray discs on Strato using a supported external USB optical drive! It’s a very simple process, and we have a short Knowledge Base Article detailing the exact steps, but the short version is:
  • Buy one of the supported drives
  • Plug it into the USB port on the back of the Strato
  • When it’s connected, the Strato will be in “disc cataloging mode”, with some special front-panel behavior.
  • Stick a disc in the drive.
  • Wait until it is automatically ejected.
  • Repeat.
It’s really that simple. You can monitor the process by watching the browser interface.

We know that the disc-to-digital process has been a pain point for customers and dealers on Strato-only systems, and we sincerely appreciate the efforts that some of our dealers have gone through to make Alto systems available to customers to catalog discs. Jim Goodrich in particular went far above and beyond the call of duty on this.

With this new feature, it should be dramatically easier for new Kaleidescape customers to get their disc library converted over to digital downloads.

There is a list of supported drives in the article. Note that the optical drive can only be used for cataloging discs. It does not support playback or any other functionality.

In addition to the optical drive support, 10.14.0 also includes:
  • Refinements to audio track selection logic
  • HDMI robustness improvements
  • The option to purchase Season Passes through the onscreen movie store
  • Bug fixes

Does the latest software (kOS 10.15.0-24132) have a new screensaver function, where the interface scrolls through the movie wall at random and opens up movie cards (movie detail page)? @MikeKobb

It does, for dealer demo systems only. There are some customer-facing features as well, but the release has not been formally announced yet. Stay tuned!

Thanks! Any way to turn it off?
Curious to learn what the other new features are!

Same. Hope it has great stuff! :)

"Your system upgraded to kOS 10.15.0-24166 today at 12:53 pm."

I have my Premiere System upgraded to kOS 8.11.0-24096 on May 24th. and my Encore System upgraded to kOS 10.15.0-24166 on May 29th.

Howdy folks!

There's going to be a proper customer email announcement once the software has finished rolling out to all systems, so I won't get into everything that will be in that, but the biggest thing you're likely to notice are some improvements in the 'Add to Collection" menu in the movie details sheets. The system collections have been moved to the top of the menu, in a separate group (this is things like Watch Soon, Favorites, the Child collection if you have a Child remote). We've also added the Played collection to that list, so you now have an easy way to mark movies as having been played or, conversely, to send them back to the New collection (by un-checking Played).

The menu item to create a new collection has been moved to the bottom of the menu.

More info to follow in the official email.

Enjoy!

Hey folks, please see the first post in this thread -- the intention is to keep this thread as on-topic for software release information as possible. It would be great if we could keep feature requests and the like elsewhere. Many thanks!

Noticed the icon on the my-kaleidescape.local page changed, and sure enough, there's a new firmware running (Your system upgraded to kOS 10.17.0-24791 on February 6)

What's new in this version, other than the icon? :)

Does that mean that now there Is there a way of disabling already watched? it makes me look in two places which seems like extra work for my slightly dyslexic mind. :D

We have improved overall performance and have added system configuration warnings to the browser interface and movie store.

System Configuration Warnings
We have created a set of warnings to indicate when Kaleidescape systems have too many components or are misconfigured such that system performance is impacted. With the kOS 10.17.0 software rollout, these warnings will appear in the browser interface and on movie store so that you will be aware that adding more components to a system may affect its performance, and how. (For systems that already exceed the recommended configurations, warnings will appear when those systems upgrade to version 10.17.0.)

Warnings appear when:
  • Adding more than 4 servers to a system
  • Adding more players to a system than the configuration is optimized for
Kaleidescape system best practices include having no more than four servers in a system (including Alto and Strato players with storage), optimizing the system configuration for the number of playbacks desired, consolidating to fewer, higher-capacity servers, and upgrading older Terra servers to Terra Prime chassis. For more information on system configuration limits and related warnings, please visit our Kaleidescape System Server and Component Limits article in our knowledge base.

Performance Improvements and Fixes
We have made several behind-the-scenes improvements to enhance the playback experience, including:
  • Refined prioritization of movie downloads (e.g. downloads will always go to a Terra Prime with an SSD-based filesystem first)
  • Support for playback of updated movie transcodes
  • Ability to remove a server without restoring impacted content
  • Bug fixes

Is the nanny alert going to pop every time, or is it one-and-done?

Is it a phased alert? As is, it will say "you are nearing/at/over the limit for x" or does it only trigger once you cross the threshold?

For the messages related to the number of components, messaging will tell you when your system configuration is at the limit of what’s recommended. The idea is that you should hopefully never reach the messages that tell you that you have too many components.
