KEAOS (Software) UPDATES

Still waiting. My Strato V totally shutdown in the middle of a scene and started flashing the display yellow. I thought it was updating but it somehow disconnected from the network. The Terra never lost connection. Restarted everything and was fine. Very buggy device for me so far.

I’m curious as to how many strato v’s are out there? I was under the impression that it was not that large a number with it being such a niche market and the device itself hasn’t been released to the public that long.

Don't know the number, but I'm assuming it is selling well, I've sold a bunch and am still placing orders, and I'm one of many dealers.

Also, if you are wondering about total rollout of the new update, it goes to all Stratos not just the V’s.

Total systems isn't something I have, but there are over 1500 Strato V units in the field, or were about a month ago. I am sure the number is higher now.

Our test-system got the update as well tonight. V25572
So if even good old Germany got the update, everybody must have it by now. ;)

Just got the V update this morning, BUT unfortunately the update has rendered Control4 useless. Control4 was working perfectly before, undoubtedly using the "old" Strato driver. Now, it appears that I have to engage my AV guy (which isn't inexpensive) to install the new V driver to see if that solves the problem.

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem with Control4 and the V?

Got it last week, very happy with it on my end. Can confirm that all the expected HDR10 metadata is being passed through to the display now, and I can get the UI in 1080p when using the "use external scaler" option.

Got the update this morning:
- UI is noticeably cleaner while at 1080P/60 letting my 75" Sony Z9K scale it from there. I regularly bounce back and forth between a C and a V on the same display and V is now barely behind the C. Practically a non-issue at my screen size (not that it was a deal breaker before). Much improved.
- First scene I watched crashed the V when I exited out early by hitting the back button (1080P SDR content). Didn't have any issues whatsoever after the resulting reboot.
- Previously I forced Low-Latency DV (LLDV) as I preferred how that looked with my display. Today I watched the Transformers Desert Battle scene in LLDV and noticed it looked a bit washed out but didn't dig into it. Watched the Harry Potter Goblet of Fire Voldemort duel scene in LLDV and it looked pretty good so I thought all was well. Went to sample some HDR content and noticed that the V converted it to LLDV also which I'm not a fan of so I quit forcing LLDV and set it to auto which also changed DV to normal/display-led (non low-latency). Went back and revisited Transformers and it was noticeably more saturated/vibrant - much better. Harry Potter wasn't quite as richer but highlights seemed to pick up additional brightness. Super bright - that scene really pushes a display! Of course, all of that is tonemapping behavior on the part of the display/scaler so your mileage may vary.

Yay, got the update this morning while at work. I will check it out to see if my issues are resolved and report back.

I'm not sure how Control4 related it is, but Monday morning (looks to be when my number came up) the network got hosed over royal (or at least it seemed that way - only really tried pinging the premiere servers, since the disc vaults were screaming murder.) Power cycling the network devices did nothing, but I managed to go in and update the network settings on the servers to add an outside DNS server, and that appears to have gotten them to behave after they rebooted - before that they'd alternate between responding or not to ping.

SR260 has been stuck in hourglass mode since last night (Tuesday,) but the app works okay (aside from being touch-only,) so maybe there's lingering affect - haven't rebooted the controller yet.

Control4 uses a protocol called "SDDP" to autodetect supported equipment on your network. When Strato V was first released, it advertised itself on SDDP as a Strato C in order to allow existing Control4 systems to discover, connect to, and control the device since a Strato V specific C4 driver did not yet exist.

As of kOS 10.20.0, Strato V now correctly advertises itself on SDDP as a Strato V and thus, the Strato C driver stops working.

The fix is to replace the old Strato C driver with the new Strato V driver (which is can be downloaded from our Support website at https://support.kaleidescape.com/support/article/Control4-Control-System-Guide. The driver is still working its way through Control4's certification process so it is not yet available directly from Control4 but hopefully will be soon.

The new driver also adds support for reporting when you are playing DV vs HDR10 which was not supported with the old drivers and has been updated to check for and use the latest supported version of the control protocol (which the old driver also didn't do).
