Strato V black screen and audio cutout issues

Just an update for everyone on this thread. After multiple rounds of testing (and even a replacement Strato V sent to me), my issue is still unresolved. The K-scape team have pretty much given up on my case and tell me to test on another TV.

The team also points to my network being the issue when I’ve literally ruled out any network issues (providing my extensive testing methodology with the K-scape team). Before anyone chimes in again, I have MKV rips >80GB in size with DV and Atmos that play without any hiccups off my NAS and the Strato V hooked up to the same port on my living room switch has issues (just 1 example, not mentioning I’ve tested every port on my switch and it gets 1G, 2.5G, and 10G on LAN).

I can only pray at this point that a firmware update down the line will fix the audio/video stuttering that occurs for every DV movie I own. Or, if I upgrade my LG G1 to a newer OLED model because it’s impossible for me to see if it’s a G1 compatibility issue.

Unfortunately, this was probably the most expensive and most regrettable purchase in my entire AV career. I should’ve just avoided the Strato V altogether and stuck with my Nvidia Shield TV Pro + Plex and disc rips (which I’ve gone back to now).

Sorry to hear about these issues and especially that it remains unresolved. I have similar issues with DV titles as well but not with every DV title. I've resorted to always download both the DV and HDR10 titles in every case where they have both. At least it is easier to switch to the HDR10 pretty quickly. I suspect that K support won't be able to solve mine as well. They always seem to be unwilling to fix these types of issues that don't happen to all of us. One thing I have noticed is that the DV issues seem to only happen with the older titles that were not ever issued on disc with DV.

Anyone else recently have audio drop outs still? Hadn’t had one in a while but today watched Gladiator 2 and had one about 45 min in. Couldn’t replicate. Also any news on an upcoming software update? Seems to be about time for one.

Have you tried switching audio on the V from atmos to 5.1 and see if that fixes it. I don't have many audio drops, but when they do, they are always with atmos.

Not sure if this will help anyone but ever since I installed a 2.5G switch and plugged everything into it I haven’t had any issues. I suspect that the router may have been getting overloaded.

Mine goes full black screen when I hit stop after watching a movie. The only way to fix it is to unplug the unit.

Strato V (using cable that came with it) -> Marantz AV 10 -> Epson LS12000 Projector.

I've tried and it doesn't help. I have also tried switching off DV, and that doesn't work either. I will need to try re-downloading my DV movies as HDR to see if that helps. However, there have been some movies with HDR that I've even had stuttering.

I'm running a brand new 24-port 10G QNAP switch over my entire home network. My home theater has a Fios extender (so I get WiFi extended, and I get ethernet through MoCA that goes into another 10G QNAP switch. All my home theater devices are connected to the QNAP switch. I can monitor the bandwidth on all the ports and everything is running 100% perfectly. I've done bandwidth tests on EVERY PORT and they are all full bandwidth. QoS is off, and again, every device in my home theater can access full 1G (if the device port is 1G) or even 2.5G (if the device has a 2.5G port). I have an Xbox Series X, PS5, Nintendo Switch, AVM 90 receiver, Nvidia Shield TV Pro, and Oppo blu ray player and sometimes a HTPC connected to this switch with ZERO bandwidth issues. Strato V is connected to that home theater switch. My Terra server is connected direct to the 24-port 10G switch in my server rack. The server rack switch is also working 100% flawlessly and none of the devices on my network have any bandwidth issues.

Really bothers me to hear K still trying to blame this on network or display. I run standalone V and have the occasional drop out so its impossible for it to be a network issue. It also happens with V hooked to my JVC projector...or a my Vizio LED or a my LG OLED so I seriously doubt its a display issue. There is something clearly wrong with the V and/or the titles themselves. Being so random and almost never reproducible leads me to think its a issue with the V itself and not the titles.

Reporting back everyone with some GREAT NEWS!!!

We were FINALLY able to resolve my issue!

The K-Scape team offered to personally come by and troubleshoot (which was WAY above and beyond), but we avoided that altogether as their engineering team just so happened to recommended I move my Terra server from my rack to my home theater. The reason being I have a Fios extender connected via coax (and MoCA) in my home theater. As I've mentioned previously, I have a 10G network switch connected to that extender, which is what the V is hooked up to. Meanwhile, my Terra was hooked up to my main 10G switch in my server rack, which is behind that MoCA. The issue seemed to be the latency from MoCA was causing issues between my Terra Server (on the other side of my network in my rack) and the V (in my home theater). Although, I haven't had any other device latency issues, I guess the V and Terra require really low latency to be able to cross-talk (particularly with the high bandwidth required for DV/Atmos movies).

As soon as I moved the Terra to the home theater room and connected it to the same switch as the V, all issues were resolved. I no longer have any audio/video stuttering. And, I think my sound overall has even improved as well (completely subjective). I'll report back if anything else pops up, but otherwise, this solution solved my issues.

At any rate, I wanted to share a few thoughts that hopefully may help out any others:

1) MAKE SURE your V and your Terra Server are on the SAME SIDE of your network. And, try to avoid putting anything between them that may cause added latency (like MoCA adapter, extra switch, etc). It's best to keep them connected to the same switch, router, or device for the lowest latency possible.
2) If you are experiencing an issue, MAKE SURE to reach out to the K-scape support team. Although it took months of back and forth in my case, I did get to a resolution. And, the K-scape team were very professional (thanks to Andre, Rusty, and the rest of the engineering team).
3) Once the V works as intended, it is fantastic!! It is quite a premium cost vs disc rips + Shield TV Pro, but as others have reported, I can definitely notice improved sound (particularly in bass frequencies). Now that it's working proper, I don't regret my purchase at all!

And finally, just to recap on what my setup is, so folks know things work as intended:
Video: LG G1 77" OLED TV
Audio: Anthem AVM 90 processor, Emotiva XPA-9 Gen3 9-channel amp, KEF R series speakers (with dolby-enabled speakers) + 2 x SVS SB-1000 Pro subs in a 5.2.4 setup
Network: Fios 1Gig, V and Terra hooked up to a QNAP 10G/1G switch that goes into a Fios Extender (connected coax)

Also, thanks to the forum for providing tips and emotional support! Greatly appreciate it!

I'm glad to hear it. As I've mentioned before, in my case, the Dolby Vision issues are sporadic so not nearly as bad a case as you were having.

Very happy for you you have resolved your issue.
But just to recap for me as I´m not being a native speaker:
You have a wifi/coax extender between two switches and server and player were connected to either side with the wifi extender inbetween them? And it took months to find out that this might be an issue? That´s weird.

MoCA is basically Ethernet over coaxial cable. So not Wi-Fi, but still potentially problematic compared to a proper Ethernet connection.

Yeah, I was a bit confused about what really is installed, but regardless of that, it would have been my first move to get that piece out of the equation.

So I take this mean if I got another V and put it up in my bedroom upstairs, I'd have to run an ethernet cable connected directly to the switch downstairs that the Terra is attached to? Sucks that I can't use my existing coax.

Correct.

Theoretically, MoCA should work. I think the task todo is to find out why it doesn´t work in your case. I´ve never used it myself, but it seems there are different flavors with different specs around. So it might be worth digging a bit more into it and do some testing.
Perhaps it´s worth to enagage a network pro to get it going.

Has it been determined if these audio issues are software related or hardware related?

Trying to rationalize if makes sense to go with a V in the next few months or wait until hardware changes are made.
