Strato V black screen and audio cutout issues

We watched Ant-Man last night in DV on our V in the living room. Strato V direct connected to an LG G2 OLED 83".

At the end of the movie when playback was stopped, the V should have gone back to the menus, but the screen just held black. Full black field. Nothing worked in terms of trying to turn if off/on with the app control. I had to pull power and plug it back in.

A customer of mine reported similar concern with the V -> Marantz Cinema 30 -> JVC RS1100. He commented that it seems to happen when existing 24 Hz content back to 60 Hz menus. No issue if menus are set to 24 Hz as well.

Has anyone else seen this? If so, please share.

Mine goes black and loses connection momentarily at the end of the movie before going back to the movie menu. V > Integra DRX 3.4 > LG C2 83” OLED.

If you had a Lumagen (and depending on the display), I would tell you that it is because you are going from 24 Hz with Genlock back to 60 Hz without Genlock. Wonder if your TV has something similar? I bet if you switched to another HDMI input then back it would force the HDMI to reset. On the Lumagen I’ve only seen this occasionally with their newer HDMI output microcode (and my projector). Most people with these units run the original code which is the default (you can switch between them).

Note:
“Genlock is used to provide a constant video delay from input to output, to avoid an occasional dropped or
repeated frame. With Genlock on the input to output video delay remains constant within a few milliseconds.”

I know this doesn’t matter with your setup, but maybe the LG has something similar. Who knows!

I am the customer that @Techthusiasm mentioned. I don't have a Lumagen or anything like that in the chain.

Strato V (using cable that came with it) -> Marantz Cinema 30 AVR -> JVC RS1100 Projector.

In my case it was every time I went to exit a movie that I would get the blank screen. I tried cycling inputs on the JVC...buttons on the Strato V with no luck....only power cycle the V worked.

I then went into the Strato's web interface and set the UI/OSD setting to 4k/24p and that seem to have corrected the problem...although I have not tested trying to watch something that is in some other frame rate since currently al the titles i have are 24p.

On the JVC is you set one input to HDMI A (EDID info) and the second to HDMI B or C, it would force a restart. If you switch between identical EDID configured inputs, then it doesn’t typically force the restart. My Strato C was doing this exact thing while I was testing the Lumagen with the newer code.

Will give it a shot.

Also gonna try temporarily taking the AVR out of the chain to see if some setting in the AVR is the issue. Pretty sure I got everything related to video processing and HDMI CEC, etc disabled.

I had that issue too with my V connected directly to my Samsung 77S95C. I added a 12 TB server yesterday. BTW, thanks for helping me set it up yesterday. Watched a movie last night after the server was added, and had no issues. Movie ended and went to the main screen without a hitch. Oddly enough, when I connect it directly to my Sony A90J, it never happens.

I have the 83” LG G3 and have had it happen sporadically as well. When it glitches the only way to exit the movie it to power off/on the V. It also occasionally jumps sideways trying to wake it up from the screensaver as well.

Where do you set the UI/OSD setting? Is it under osd refresh rate? It is currently set to default (automatic).

I had similar issues with my Denon. Apparently the V is not playing nice with D&M products. I reluctantly hooked it directly into my display.

Also check this thread for similar issues/concerns:

Are you still having issues even with video set to passthrough in the AVR?

I have connected it directly to my 83” Oled. Pass thru is essentially as good as connecting it directly to the display, as you lose AVR OSD functionality.

I just want to make sure there isn’t any issue with AVR in video passthrough as I really don’t want to use eARC/CEC. I don’t use the OSD and never want the AVR to touch the video signal.

Hi there!

I am new to Kaleidescape as the Strato V is technically my first purchase. I an really curious if anyone has been experiencing the same issues as I have and have found any fixes.

My set up:
Strato V
Marantz Cinema 60
Sony X95L

First issue I have is with Dolby Vision content. Any film I watch with Dolby Vision will occasionally flash black for about half a second. No audio cutout, just the picture.. it happens maybe once every 30-40 minutes.

Second issue is when I press play on a movie from being in the pause status (never when starting a movie) sometimes the image will go black and I will only have audio. I need to press stop, then press resume movie in order to fix it.

Third issue is I have audio completely stop working midway through a movie. Stoping and resuming sometimes does not fix it. I will need to power off the Strato and AVR in order to get audio back. The strange thing is I can switch inputs to the Apple TV and audio will come through but not on the Strato when switching back.

Any ideas?

Have you tried with the Marantz in passthrough mode for video?

I actually did look through that thread but it seemed to be a different issue, I'm mostly concerned about the audio dropping out but I did see one comment about changing the frame rate to 24hz in the settings which I have. I have yet to test since I have made that change.

Yup, it's currently set to pass-through

A couple of us have noticed the same issue:
My family is currently making a game out of counting the drop outs. :p

Feel free to email support@kaleidescape.com with your issues (video drop out included) so they can note the scope of the problems we're observing.

It’s a Denon/ Marantz incompatibility issue with the V along with an unknown bug, which has been established for a while. The only workaround at the moment is to plug this directly to the display (or enable passthrough), until they find a permanent solution. The threads mentioned above outlines many similar issues. Not ideal, but really hoping they get down to the bottom of this soon.

Yes, more folks (especially D&M owners) who bring this to their attention, it will help establish an emerging pattern.
