Strato V black screen and audio cutout issues

Yes, I’ve been experiencing audio drops on my Yamaha since the kOS 10.20 update yesterday. I never had this issue with the previous 10.19 version. It’s quite annoying, indeed.

Is there any way to roll back to version 10.19? I can live without the on-screen trailers for now, but these frequent audio drops are extremely frustrating.
Yikes, I hope this doesn’t happen to me. Except for a blackout problem I had earlier (which turned out to be an HDMI cable issue), mine has been rock solid in the 5 months I’ve owned it. Fingers crossed that the new software doesn’t screw things up. Is there any way to bubble-wrap my system so it doesn't get the new software?

You can say sassy things on this forum about the K team's movie selections; that ought to get you in the last batch. :)

(Kidding, of course.)

Same here having rock solid time with my v until. I had no issues before, but with this new update, only Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision movies experience sound dropouts for 1-2 seconds in some scenes at intervals. I wish they had auto update on/off.
Another issue I am having is with rewind, it doesn’t repose well after new update.

Rewind and fast forward worked pretty poorly on the old fw too.

I'm still waiting on my V to get delivered. Are most of these issues when using the V in standalone or even with a server?

The presence of a Terra has no effect on the issues being described. If any hardware is playing a role, it's something in the display chain (AVR, Processor, etc.), but it's believed the Strato V itself is at fault as other devices do not trigger these issues.

Its specific to the Strato V period...specifically something with HDMI communication/handshake. Mine is standalone and I only play HDR10 movies and have experienced the issue so its not network or DV related. Also, it is so random and not reproducible for a given occurrence that it cannot be content related.

Make sure to try a different HDMI cable also. I used the cable supplied with the V and had this issue and then replaced it with an 8 ft Monoprice 8k cable and the issue went away (pre update). I was surprised because supposedly it was a fairly high quality cable. I saw somewhere someone said longer cables can help, but really not sure if that is true.

I have noted the feedback being posted here and have escalated it within the Engineering team. We are investigating all of the various issues being reported here. Rest assured that we are not ignoring your feedback.

I will be contacting some of you directly to attempt to gather more specific information about your HDMI chains and downstream equipment.

In the meantime, if you are posting about a video or audio drop, including the following information would be very helpful:
  • Specific content (Title of movie, HD/HDR10/DV/SDR) and approximate position in the movie where it happened.
  • How is your Strato V configured (Allow mode changes/Avoid mode changes/forced to LLDV, etc)
  • HDMI chain between your Strato and your display device (i.e. Lumagens, MadVRs, etc)
The more specific information we have, the easier it will be for us discover the underlying cause for these problems.

I get a contrast flicker when watching some Dolby Vision movies. A Quiet Place Day One in Dolby Vision was particularly noticeable, but then Back to the Future 1 in Dolby Vision had no issues. Not sure why, but most movies don't seem to have this issue but some do. I think someone else posted a video of this. I tried setting all of the motion smoothing, dynamic contrast, noise reduction options to off on my projector and still had the issue.

I have in my chain Kaleidescape, Denon AVR-X6700H, Hisense L9H UST Projector.

My Strato V is set to the default settings.

Appreciate all the work!

I agree with the rewind issue. With 10.20 it is almost impossible to find the right location (Jackie Brown HD , Strato V to Anthem AVM90 to OLED ). No dropouts with that title.

I have reported many DV movies and identified many scenes using my remote to the engineering team.

But, I will report today the first time I’ve now had an issue with a non-DV movie, albeit a Dolby Atmos movie. I saw the stuttering and dropouts in Training Day at around 23 minutes (chapter 6). Again, this is the first time I’ve had this issue in a non-DV movie (it’s 4K HDR), but here we are.

Something is significantly wrong with the Strato V. And I really hope there is a fix provided soon. I’ve owned my V now since it came out and I’m unable to return it due to it being past return date. It is, at this point, one of the most significant purchase failures I’ve had to date due to not being to watch movies properly (it’s single purpose!)…

My Strato V is hooked up to an Anthem AVM90 going into a LG 77” G1 OLED. The Strato V is configured to default, out of the box settings. It automatically triggers Filmmaker Mode on the LG when watching HDR or DV content.

@kalitoona I'm somewhat in the same boat as you as of this most recent update - any content is now suffering various types of blackouts every 15 minutes or so. I've tested it on multiple projectors (both Formovie brand), and also tested my Apple TV in the same flow (Video source -> Denon -> Projector) and have no issues.

I had an issue last night after the update where the Dolby Vision version of "The Equalizer 2" had constant brightening and/or darkening every few seconds. I restarted both the Strato V as well as the TV to see if it would fix the issue, but it didn't make a difference. I then downloaded the HDR10 version and all was good. It seems the issue is only with Dolby Vision. Not sure if it's just this title or that it's one of the bugs after the latest update?

It's a known issue. They are working on that movie.

Fingers, toes and anything else capable of being crossed ,my Strato V seems to be operating perfectly now that the 10.20 update has been done. Prior to the up date I was experiencing black screen and audio cutout issues randomly.

Strato V, Compact Terra 22, Sony AVR STRAZ3000ES, SONY #XR77A80L 77 INCH 4K OLED TV

I experienced consistent split second video drops/black-outs with a Stato V / Marantz AV10 / Sony Z9K TV during the entirety of House of the Dragon Season 2. Almost always 3-4 drops per episode but the final episode had like 6 drop outs for a few frames.

I haven't watched any DV content on the V since as everything I've wanted to watch lately has been non-DV. Using my Strato C for all that until the potential edge enhancement issue on the V is also addressed.
Just watched the original Terminator movie in DV & Atmos and the recent 10.20 update seems to have done the trick. Zero drops! Strato V direct to a Sony Z9K TV with audio eARC'd to a Marantz AV10.

No contrast variability either outside of ever-so-slightly lifted blacks - a known issue with many Sony TV's in DV mode. Small price to pay for how good it is at all other facets of image processing.
