KEAOS (Software) UPDATES

My understanding is a new update will start rolling out this week. Do we have release notes yet? I know there will be some fixes for the newer players, but am curious if there are any improvements for the Strato C or Terra servers.

Hello all,

Yes, kOS 26.1 is scheduled to begin release this week. As usual, the release will deploy in phases, with primarily employee and dealer systems in the initial tranches to ensue that we catch any unexpected issues that did not show up during QA. The release will continue to roll out to all users over the course of a few weeks.

In addition to support for Strato K, kOS 26.1 includes the following changes:

HDMI Capabilities & Diagnostics
  • HDR10/DV/DV-LL support per 4K/8K mode - The HDMI Capabilities page now indicates which 4K/8K modes support each HDR/Dolby Vision format, helping diagnose unexpected mode changes. Available on all players which support 4K or higher.
HDMI physical link mode displayed
  • The HDMI Capabilities page now shows whether the HDMI link is using TMDS or FRL, and includes the bandwidth supported.
Playback & Audio Improvements (All Platforms)
  • Improved playback of Dolby Vision on non-supported displays - The conversion to HDR10 no longer causes a slight increase in black level, and now better preserves the original dynamic range.
  • Fixed stereo audio being output as multichannel - Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, and AAC stereo tracks were incorrectly output as multichannel MAT PCM on Strato V and later players. Now correctly outputs stereo.
Fixed audio clicking on Trinnov receivers after leaving standby
  • Rapid audio format switches during OSD navigation caused audible clicks. Affected Strato V, E, M, and K.
Other fixes and improvements
  • Playback and platform stability improvements.

Are all Strato Ks being shipped with the new KOS 26.1 already installed?

Are all Strato Ks being shipped with the new KOS 26.1 already installed?
Yes. Strato K requires a minimum kOS version of 26.1.0. If/when you group a Strato K with your existing system, the other components in the system will upgrade to 26.1.0 since kOS downgrades are not allowed and all components in a system must be running the exact same version of kOS.

I ordered the new K on June 19th (the day after the announcement). Later that day, my dealer said K wanted to know my movie account email address.
Now, I see that I have already been upgraded to version 26:

Perhaps anyone expecting a new K gets fast-tracked on the OS update?

Yes. If an existing customer orders a new piece of hardware that will required a kOS upgrade in order to be compatible with their existing system, we make every effort to push that upgrade to the customer's system as soon as possible; ideally before they receive their new device. It just makes the setup process go much more smoothly.

Thanks John. I was impressed with how many new Ks seemed to be available to ship at announcement date! My dealer thinks I might be one of the first to receive one in Canada. I am not expecting "revolutionary" improvement in picture quality, but people-who-chase-the-ultimate always appreciate "evolutionary" progress, no matter how small, in quality. Plus, as 8K starts to roll out, I think K will be one of the few credible delivery systems for this technology.

I ordered one but have not received the update. Maybe because my dealer keeps getting delays with the shipping? :)

Excellent username, by the way. ;)

Well, the update starts when you add the Strato K to your setup. Or are you suggesting that K should maintain a list of Strato K purchasers and push the update to the existing system of the purchaser even before the unit arrives?....

The latest round of updates went out this morning.

As a heads up to everyone due to public holidays both in Canada and the United States this week, the rollout of kOS 26.1.0 will not continue until next week.

Will those of us receiveing the Strato K this week still get the updates on other players if the K already comes with kOS 26.1.0?

He is saying the next group of updates went out this morning, but then will halt for the rest of the week because of the holiday. Then the firmware updates will resume for additional owners starting next Monday.

The Strato K comes with 26.1.0 pre-installed. If/when you group your Strato K with your existing system, all other components in that system will be upgraded to 26.1.0 automatically since all devices in the system must be running the exact same kOS version.
