KEAOS (Software) UPDATES

I pulled up Lawerence of Arabia again last night to look at the settings and the CIH works as expected now. I don't know why it didn't behave as expected initially, but it works now. Great feature.

Thank you Kaleidescape team!

So, call me a little confused but......when it comes to the aspect ratios for a film I am seeing the wrong aspect reported in the GUI but presented correctly during playback. For instance, Dunkirk use to show in the GUI and play back at 2.35. However, now it shows up as 1.85 but is presented correctly at 2.20. Tron now reports at 2.35 in the GUI but still shows up correctly at 2.39. Why is this like this? I use manual screen masking and it's super beneficial if I know the aspect before playback to position the masks prior to a film. If I think a film is 1.85 but is actually 2.20 ill need to pause the film and re-adjust.

I’m not sure of those specific titles, but I do know that the aspect ratio reported by K is the “most open” ie “tallest” aspect ratio shown in that particular movie.

So for example if it is a movie with variable aspect ratios, like say most of the movie is 2.39:1 but IMAX scenes are 1.90:1 it will show as 1.90:1

I’m not sure if Dunkirk is variable AR on Kaleidescape.

Certainly if it is just categorized with the incorrect AR, I think you can email support and they will have a look and hopefully fix it

Thanks for the reply, so Dunkirk on KS is not variable AR. It’s fixed at 2.20, before it was fixed at 2.35. But it’s showing up as 1.85. If it was variable that would make sense.

Got it. I would email support. I actually have Dunkirk, so I will have to check mine later!

At least on the store it does show 2.20:1 for the 4k

I believe your home server has to update its internal database for the GUI after the new KOS update. After the server database update, the store and server metadata should match. I think Mike mentioned this earlier but can’t find the thread.

Maybe that is why Lawerence of Arabia was still displayed with letterboxing immediately after my update but was CIH as expected later that evening.

Ok, so I rebooted my Strato C and whatdaknow? The GUI is now reflecting the right aspect ratio as the store shows it. There are still a few titles that show 2.40 when I know they are 2.39. But I’m guessing KS team hasn’t had a chance to change it? However, Dunkirk for instance now shows 2.20 on the GUI.

I'll still don't know how anyone can notice 2.39 vs. 2.40 AR? :)

I know lol. But @Rmarci has stated this is over-cropping. So, why do that? Just give us the purest version. I have a 2.40 screen so you are right, I’m not gonna notice anything. Heck, I don’t notice when I put a film like Avatar in 2.40 with my Lumagen.
