KEAOS (Software) UPDATES

Can you mention a little more on the also rans, particularly the second and third? (I think the others have been recent questions on here, so won't remove, even if I suspect to personally be less interested in them.)
Network configuration safeguards
kOS now prevents users from applying invalid static IP configurations via the OSD network settings. In the past, it was possible to enter and save values that would result in the player being knocked off of the network. kOS now verifies the entered values and disables the "Done" button if it detects an invalid configuration. While it's not bullet-proof -- for example, you could still enter what appears to be a valid configuration using IP ranges that are not supported by your router -- it will detect errors such as:
  • IP, subnet mask, or gateway address left at 0.0.0.0
  • Subnet mask with non-contiguous bits
  • Gateway IP outside of subnet
  • IP or gateway set to a broadcast address
  • IP or gateway set to network address
  • DNS1 missing
Switching improvements for Co-Star and Strato V
Fixed an issue where Strato V players could fail to fully initialize the HDMI connection when used with a Co‑Star switch, improving reliability when switching between players. Additionally, under certain circumstances, a large amount of log spam -- invisible to end users but noisy for our Support team -- could be generated on the Premiere system due to repeated requests from the Strato system. This spam has been eliminated.

When i login to the browser for my-kaleidescape/components... I am getting a warning message "One or more Kaleidescape components has a network misconfiguration". everything still seems to be functioning properly with access and downloads so not sure why I am getting this message. But I am concerned this could prevent me from getting the new software update.

A couple of very short (split second) blips while watching a complete unknown last night. What’s surprising is that I didn’t encounter any audio drops on the previous software. But then again I had only watched over a half of dozen movies since I got back. However they all ran flawlessly on the previous version.
Full fiber cables.

Can I jump on your ship? It takes forever to get the updates
I understand 100% why Kscape releases software updates in the way they do. However in today’s world everyone wants everything right now and maybe in the future they can change that. Unless Mike K wants to give us all a great gift for the weekend and help to push the updates through 😉😉??!!

It would be great to add a feature where people could check for updates at will manually and update whenever or set to automatic like Apple.

K doesn’t have the user base that Apple does, but that also means they don’t have the same kind of infrastructure and bandwidth maybe to support that.

For the record, we virtually never push out updates over or just prior to a weekend.

To be more specific: systems that aren't necessarily kept online all of the time might get fired up on a Friday and discover that they have a software update available, download it and apply it but in cases like that, the update has been available and waiting for that system since earlier in the week.

I also understand why. But the last updates for me at least have been a several weeks to a month.. that seems extreme to me not big deal really.

I was fortunate enough to receive the update earlier this week, so I wanted to share my thoughts on it. While I’m not an expert, I wanted to provide everyone with an overview of how it appears on my JVC NZ9.

I was able to watch Epic and Avatar without any audio dropouts. The picture quality has also improved significantly. I’ve watched a few titles like Star Trek: The Motion Picture and 2001: A Space Odyssey, which had elevated blacks compared to the 4K disc before the update. With this update, the blacks are now identical to the 4K disc. I believe the detail, color, and black level have all improved.

Thanks Kaleidescape

I didn't see improved detail, color, or black levels on the list of improvements in the K-scape software.

Playback Improvements for Strato V, E, and M Players”

Any improvements for the Strato C Player ?

Del
( Japan )
I think we only get the accurate aspect ratio listings. Then again, we don’t have as many issues as the newer players. I don’t have audio dropouts or any bug fixing needs as far as I’m aware. From the OS, I’d largely appreciate retaining all the scenes I create myself when movie file updates happen — currently the file updates erase them.
