About Strato V, Dolby Vision, and FEL

Here's the thread that I promised to create:

Here's the thread that I promised to create:

One thing I would add is a notification once all the updates are completed, since right now we basically are in the dark about any DV movie that we haven’t directly compared. Or if the team has a list that can be copy/pasted here so we know which movies need updates (and thus we should wait to watch if they are on our library).

Here's the thread that I promised to create:

Do you have a list of effected titles? It would be great to know if we have something that is going to get fixed.

Hmmm. That's the list I was given, but maybe there was a mistake. I will check!
Can you share the list you were given about the affected movies? I'm not sure this is the same as the issue I'm having as indicated below:

I'm having judder issues on the 4K Dolby vision versions of both The Hunger Games: Mockingjay (Part 2) & Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It happens throughout the movie for only the Dolby vision version. When I download the HDR10 version, it will play just fine.

The only two similarities between the two that I'm aware of is:

1. Both of these titles are the last of the series.
2. Both of these titles were only released in HDR10 on 4K disc.

I'm thinking it may be due to the process that Kaleidescape does when running to work with the Strato V players and also Dolby vision. I sent a support ticket into Kaleidescape support and also attached a video showing the issue. Anyone else care to download one or both of these titles on their Strato V to see if they have the same issue? Sample of issue provided below. You just need to change the extension to .mov from .txt.

The issue discussed here would not have any effect on playback. It's only related to color.

I do see the issue that you've described in your uploaded file. Can you tell me a time index of that clip? I'll ask the team to take a look.

It's all throughout the movie, as consistent as every 30 seconds or so.

It's 12 minutes into the movie. No stuttering on my end.
Well, the only other thing would be the combination of devices, I guess? I'm using Hisense mini led TV along with a Denon AVR. I'm also thinking that if it was this combination of devices, the issue would happen with every DV movie I watch on K. There is something we're not thinking about or don't know about that is causing the issue. I'm hoping that K support will find out why this is happening on some DV titles.

I watched about 5 minutes of Mockingjay Pt 2 and didn't notice any stuttering.
I downloaded the Star Wars episode IX again last night to see if the issue is still there. I watched only about 15 minutes of it and didn't notice any judder at all, so it is not consistent. What else could be the problem? Could it be a corrupt file when it occurs? Could it be a bad hard drive sector?

If it were either of these, the stuttering would be consistent ... meaning it would happen at the EXACT same moment during each subsequent playback attempt. If the stuttering is random/intermittent, then the issue is likely due to an environmental issue (or potentially a hardware failure somewhere).

To help diagnose a playback issue like this with K support, you can try pressing a unique series of buttons on your remote at the moment of the stuttering. Use a combination like "5-5-5" or "7-7-7" ... just something that you wouldn't commonly press. Then let K support know roughly when you did this so they can search your logs for that time stamp and see what may have been going on at that moment.

Be aware that this may not lead to a "smoking gun", but it could potentially steer things in the right direction.

@MikeKobb Any update on being able to get a list of impacted titles so we know what movies ti wait for an update for? Also it’s been 2 weeks since any movies were fixed.

Wow, I have no idea what happened to the post that I composed for last week. Sorry about that. I just updated the thread with a combined post for last week's updates and this week's.

Regarding getting a list of the remaining titles, we would prefer not do do that, because while we do have a list of the titles that have the characteristics that cause the issue, each title needs to be individually evaluated to confirm the issue and validate the fix. What I can tell you is that there were ~50 total movies on that list, and as you can see in the updates thread, we've already updated 16 of them, with several more nearing completion.

Understood. I was hoping to get a confirmation on The Last Jedi being on the radar

Good news: That movie was not affected by this issue!
Last Jedi was impacted, it was my #1 example on the support ticket as I had both DV/HDR10 versions pics of the disc (including the original disc with DV on it), HDR10/DV on Kscape and Disney +. The only one that looked different was the DV Kscape version. Here is a quick example from the pics I had.
