I just upgraded the Jurassic Park movies. They look and sound amazing. The Atmos sure packs a punch. It's a huge upgrade.

They are now all Dolby Vision Dolby Atmos with the exception of Jurassic World, which is HDR and DTS-HD 5.1. The reason Jurassic World hasn't been upgraded is because the studio's digital files on all services (Fandango, Apple TV, etc). have not been upgraded as well. The studios don't always share the same Audio/DV files the discs receive. Hopefully, someday they will.I'm trying to figure out which Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movies have new transfers/audio tracks compared with the 4K discs which I own.
It seems the original 3 get a new DV transfer and a new Atmos track so that's easy
Jurassic World, disc has HDR10/DTS:X, K has HDR10 but DTS-HD MA 5.1, so no reason to upgrade?
Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom, disc has DV/DTS:X, K has DV and ATMOS so I guess new Atmos track but same video transfer as disc?
Jurassic World Dominion, same as Fallen Kingdom?
Yeah that's what it seems. I'm assuming the second 2 Jurassic Worlds didn't get a new transfer as they are much more recent and already in DV, just the new Atmos track. They are now all Dolby Vision Dolby Atmos with the exception of Jurassic World, which is HDR and DTS-HD 5.1. I believe the Atmos tracks for those two have been there for a little while, not sure about Dolby Vision though.Yeah that's what it seems. I'm assuming the second 2 Jurassic Worlds didn't get a new transfer as they are much more recent and already in DV, just the new Atmos track.
Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom was upgraded from DTS-HD 5.1 to Dolby Atmos several months ago. It was unexpected. So hopefully, the same thing with happen with Jurassic World in the near future.Yeah that's what it seems. I watched Shane Lee's review of the Atmos version and comparison to the DTS X version. Take a look at his video. He has Trinnov Altitude and he shows during his review which channels are active during the movie. I think that he mentioned that the height channels in the DTS X version weren't as active as the Atmos version and bc of that, the DTS X version resulted in a lack of feeling like you're in a bubble.I haven't heard the ATMOS version yet. But I tend to prefer DTS-X if movies have it. So, I'm going to keep my 4K discs a little longer. I would love to hear from someone that has watched both versions to hear their opinion if it's worth upgrading based on ATMOS.
It wasn’t even that the DTSX height channels weren’t “as active,” it’s that they weren’t active at all during much of the movie.I watched Shane Lee's review of the Atmos version and comparison to the DTS X version. Haha, I'll have to watch his video myself. I prefer DTS-X for the same reason, the hotter bass. In my experience, most movies have limited height effects. Such as Nosferatu where I noticed the rain or birds chirping. It wasn’t even that the DTSX height channels weren’t “as active,” it’s that they weren’t active at all during much of the movie.
I also generally prefer DTSX when available due to the typically hotter bass, as also mentioned in Shane’s video, but this was a bit of an eye opener.
Let's face it............DTS X for the home viewing audience isn't really taking off, especially when you consider that it's nowhere to be found on any of the series shown on streamers.Jurassic Park was the first Theatrical Release with DTS and heavily promoted. With these new releases moving to Dolby Atmos, this doesn't look good for the future of DTS or getting old movies updated with DTS:X. IMHO.
I agree, the future doesn't look good for DTS-X. Since switching to K, I've been selling my discs. But I'm keeping my 3D & DTS-X discs. So far, I have around 50 titles that are DTS-XJurassic Park was the first Theatrical Release with DTS and heavily promoted. I think that changing (movies with Atmos height effects). I've noticed that the majority of Atmos films I've watched in the past year have some height effects, even if they're subtle. In my acoustically treated room, even the subtle Atmos height effects create a nice atmospheric/enveloping sound field.Haha, I'll have to watch his video myself. Yes, the only series that I have on K in DTS-X is Harry Potter. K, please don't take that away from me!Let's face it............DTS X for the home viewing audience isn't really taking off, especially when you consider that it's nowhere to be found on any of the series shown on streamers.
If K-scape ever upgrades the Harry Potter Movies to Atmos, don't worry.....you don't have to do the upgrade. You can keep the DTS-X version.Yes, the only series that I have on K in DTS-X is Harry Potter. K, please don't take that away from me!![]()
This is most likely because Apple refuses to add DTS licensing to the AppleTV more than anything.Let's face it............DTS X for the home viewing audience isn't really taking off, especially when you consider that it's nowhere to be found on any of the series shown on streamers.
Don't forget about Netflix. Netflix is the big dog in streaming and they use Atmos for some of their series and reality shows. I'd argue that HBO Max would also have more influence than Apple TV when it comes to audio tracks bc they have more critically acclaimed series than Apple. This is most likely because Apple refuses to add DTS licensing to the AppleTV more than anything.
