Strato V black screen and audio cutout issues

The originator of the thread you linked said he was having drops every 30-120 seconds. Am I right in thinking that the ones you had with Fall Guy were not that frequent?

No, definitely not that frequent. About 5-6 incidents in total.

I’d like to confirm Im having the same problem.
I don’t know if I should return my Strato V or to keep it.
Screen blacked out twice during twisters at random and I can’t replicate the issue upon rewind and play.
But I’ve had the audio glitching with furiosa towards the 51min mark..
This I can replicate and happens no matter what.
I have the Sony A90J
I have the Sony A95k
It’s happening on both.
I’ve tried the TVs builtin Atmos speakers
I have a b&o theatre setup, BeoLab 90 and BeoLab 8s.
I have a B&W formation system.
The audio clipping issue occurs with HD masters audio it goes away when I switch to dts audio.
It happens on every setup.
Btw my tvs built in speakers also support Atmos.
I have Furiosa Black and Chrome edition
I have Furiosa Standard edition.
Happens with both.
The clipping is literally a clip and sometimes the audio just drops out and you can’t hear audio for a second.
I haven’t completed the movie so it might just happen in other places too.
I need to know if I should return my Strato V or keep it.
I’ve changed my hdmi cables.
Connected the unit directly to the tv.
Connected to the b&o theatre.
Issue still happens.

I also have the brightness flickering issue on furiosa.
I’ve tried audioquest 48 cables.
I’ve tried the supplied hdmi cables.
Nothing changes.
Tried turning the screen saver off.

Once after taking a break I resumed Twosters and my screen started flickering.
I had to restart the unit.
I haven’t watched Twisters again..
Stopping this stuff requires a complete rerun of a movie.. and I’ve only had the device for 3-4 days.
I managed to record this issue.

Watched Twisters last night. HDR10 version. No video issues but did have a brief auto-dropout for a few sec once when coming out of pause/intermission. i.e video started playing but no audio for 2-3sec.

my issue was with in Dolby Vision

I have had my Strato V for 4 days now. The picture and audio quality on my LG OLED 65" is excellent - better than 4k BluRay to my eyes and ears. For 2 of 6 movies watched I have had 2 audio dropouts (2-4) seconds and when I rewind I can't reproduce the issue.

I am using a 15' HDMI Highwings 8k cable from Amazon (use this type and length for all other sources with no issues). My AVR is an Anthem AVM90. I have never had audio dropouts previously with any other sources (Apple TV, Roku, Oppo UDP-205 DVD player, Amazon Fire).

I will open a ticket to document my issue. I am hoping a possible upcoming update may solve this issue. I am not thinking of a return just yet.

What is the time stamp? I will hook my V up to my A90J this evening and check it out. What picture mode are you using?

I couldn’t recreate the issue.
Because I watched the movie once.
Rewinding couldn’t recreate the issue.
I watched the whole movie and the screen blackout twice and audio dropped out together.
Towards the ending in the theatre room when the roof top gets ripped out is when the screen blacked out for me with the audio drop out.
The other scene was during the initial tornado scene.
Also once I paused the video in the above sense resumed it and then it stated flickering.
I’ve linked the scene but I couldn’t replicate the issue again.
I’m using Dolby vision bright on my A90J.
I’d have to watch the movie again to get a second finding.

Was the V connected directly to the A90J or through an AVR? BTW, there has been at least one other report of issues with Furiosa on an LG TV with flickering and audio drops with DV.

The black screen thing has occurred via the tv and my b&o theatre avr.
In both scenarios but at random.
But i did watch Dune 2 once it had no issues asides a minor audio clip the first run of the entire movie.
The second run screen blacked out 1 time within the first 5mins of playback.

Audio drops on furiosa have been reported (and confirmed) on the V. This was confirmed by @MikeKobb, as he and his team were able to reproduce this on various processors. It is specific to the V. They were not able to replicate this on the C. There’s not much more to say (or do) until they complete their investigations.

It’s quite bizarre (and slightly puzzling) that other V users have not reported this when they watched Furiosa, whereas Mike and his team were able to capture these events across multiple platforms. They detected it at the specific timestamps which were reported earlier.

Fwiw, the audio drops happened on the HDR10 download as well.

In case some of you missed Mike’s post, #168 page 9.

Hello all,

I just touched base with @Broncowrangler via PM to bring him up to date on some of our investigation so far, and got a bit of an update from him a well.

First things first -- he reported to me that changing his LG's picture mode to Filmmaker Mode resolved the brightness fluctuations that he had seen with Furiosa and other movies. So that's good news, and was consistent with our internal testing so far which found that our own LG (different model) could show some fluctuation in certain picture modes, but not others. For now, this seems to be an issue with the LG's processing.

Regarding the audio drops on Furiosa, there are two specific locations in the movie that have momentary audio drops when played on Strato V. We have reproduced this in-house on multiple different audio processors, and we have also found that the identical movie files play without issue on Strato C. So, it seems that there's something about this specific movie that is causing a hiccup in the bitstream on Strato V. This is good news, because it's a reproducible case that will allow our team to efficiently investigate. (For what it's worth, I watched the movie last night for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it!)

So, excellent progress so far. More info to follow as I have it.

For the sake of clarity when connected directly to the tv I was using the 4th hdmi input.
I had “enhanced format (Dolby vision) from the Sony HDMI signal format settings selected.
Did the same on the 3rd hdmi earc input. (Set to Enhanced format (Dolby Vision)
I sent my unit back 5mins ago.
I’m not in the U.S. had a friend traveling back.
So I didn’t want to lose on that.
I didn’t want to return it.
I waited a long time to get the Strato V.
Been wanting a Kaleidoscape for years now.
Not sure if it’s a hardware issue or a software issue.
Not sure I made the right call.
But watching movies only had me waiting for blackouts to happen..
As a result my mood would dull each time..
I’m sure others would ignore it and I’m sure I could find a way to live with it too.
But the experience felt like a burden needing to be addressed.

We live in a world run by software, and surprise… software has bugs, just a fact of life.
I’m sure they’ll get sorted out, I’m enjoying the improvement with DV, I wouldn’t think of returning it.

The V also has different internal hardware. What might work perfectly with the chips in older models may not work the same on the V, plus now the hardware has to properly send DV to the device. A lot of variables for the engineers to troubleshoot and fix.

Would probably be good on this new report to list your exact settings on the kaleidescape when you saw the issues so kaleidescape can try to recreate it again.

Just to follow up, as I started the thread. My one black crash/force restart remains a single event, isolated instance. We've done a good bit of content since with no issues.

My new projector arrives today, so I'll be moving the K to the theater from the living room to pass through my Anthem AVM 90 to the madVR and NZ900.

I had black screen when exiting a movie happen twice this weekend....and I have my OSD force to 24hz. :(

I experienced consistent split second video drops/black-outs with a Stato V / Marantz AV10 / Sonly Z9K TV during the entirety of House of the Dragon Season 2. Almost always 3-4 drops per episode but the final episode had like 6 drop outs for a few frames.

I haven't watched any DV content on the V since as everything I've wanted to watch lately has been non-DV. Using my Strato C for all that until the potential edge enhancement issue on the V is also addressed.
