@thrawn997 looks like I was mistaken about your first posts, Iāve got bored and gone through just to see what, if any change there has been in your posts.
Now I wonāt be able to say my true feelings on the matter because as far as you are concerned everything is an attack on you so I will be astute in my analysis. Iām sure I could use an A.I summary and it would condense everything down into a short paragraph that would look like most of your posts since they are very similar but alas I donāt use A.I.
Looks like I owe you an apology though because you have posted in more threads than just your angry ones about K. I found it interesting to note your first posts were about how amazing the Strato V is and the Last Jedi. What I also found very intriguing was that you had no complaints about any image quality issues at all until Rmarci pointed them out. Most amusing was you have asked about The Last Jedi a number of times which I can only assume is because you canāt actually see any issues and need to know for your own sanity having thought it looked amazing.
What I donāt understand though is you threatened to take legal action by April if things werenāt fixed and didnāt.
You repeatedly talk about being done with K and bought an Ugoos and said that you were going back to discs. In the middle of all that you also post how great Obsession looks on K.
You also say you donāt trust K but then say you would happily buy a Strato K even after complaining about them for 8 months straight.
You complain about the cost but later say money is no object for you on the player front. Not only that but after complaining about the money you sunk into it a separate dealer offered to buy back the units AND reimburse the movie cost at their own expense to a number of you and you didnāt want to do that.
You make pretty serious accusations about the workings of K and despite having been proven wrong never apologised about a number of those or admitted you were wrong.
Although you donāt directly single out anyone other than Cinelife, you make pretty sweeping derogatory statements about owners and dealers even ignoring K for a moment.
You complained about the thread getting flooded with distractions and content that isnāt the comparisons quite early on and agreed with Rmarci it should be focused on the comparisons so why did you yourself continue to post when your posts werenāt about the comparisons but just your issues with K?
You complained for ages that they didnāt care and werenāt responding because they had no interest in fixing it and then weirdly later praise them for being responsive.
Talking about your LG G4 TV, you made a comment about if they didnāt fix dithering then you would come consider it defective. Did you make as much of a fuss about the known issues with the G4 then, in particular Iām talking about its issues with HDR10 and also it having undefeatable edge-enhancement in all picture modes? The latter of which would seem to me to make it impossible to view any content as intended and have never been fixed despite LG knowing about it unless of course the G6 fixing it countsā¦
Your actions havenāt changed whether K fixes issues or not, they arenāt āputting pressure on themā as you believe because they would have fixed the issues once identified whether you posted a million times or nothing at all.
Ultimately I donāt really know why you keep posting the same thing over and over despite saying your done numerous times, either go or donāt but threatening it in the way you do achieves nothing. You say a lot of contradictory things and donāt apply the same rules to yourself or other devices, if you are going to be so publicly bothered by something then donāt be a hypocrite.
Anyway Iāve wasted enough time on this already so this will be the last time I engage in such things because letās face it, you arenāt going to change your approach.
A snippet of your posts below just for reference:
So I recently got myself a strato v and have checked out quite a few films on my OLED. One of my favorite films is The Last Jedi and I was stunned by the quality of the release on K, it looks better than any time I have seen it before. I also checked out Empire Strikes Back and I couldn't believe the level of detail and how well the Dolby Vision grade has been done. I haven't gotten to any of the other films yet but I'm curious how they compare.
I have a 2024 LG G4 and almost universally DV looks better than HDR10. I am not sure why DV would be considered fake HDR.
I have to wonder at what point this graduates to materially misleading advertising on their part. They need to be more forthright with what they are doing to address this imo, and more frequent in their communication around it.
Yeah I think I'm about ready to throw in the towel on this. What a massive scam.
I've pretty much switched back to Blu-ray, really disappointed in the lack of progress from them
I have been switching to movies anywhere unfortunately. I appreciate your sheet that lets me find which ones are better on each service, but the reason for getting K was to not think about it and just get the best quality out there. Now that I know they don't even do QA on their movies, I am not sure I can trust them even when they "fix" these problems. Not being able to detect the problems, and then having fixes being measured in years is just not acceptable. I wish someone would start a class action for deceptive advertising, might be the only way for them to take their promises seriously.
Will it stop being defective when the software updates? We all hope so, but given the deceptive advertising practices they continue to engage in despite being aware of these flaws, I am not as trusting as many others here. Regardless, today the unit is definitively defective.
I know you have a financial interest so hopefully you can use that to push them to improve not to help cover up their unacceptable issues.
In reality, most of us don't have an easy way to compare side by side. We assumed K was honest in their marketing that they did sufficient quality control to substantiate the marketing claims they make. That it took a member of the community to do their job is not a great defense of them imo.
Who have you ever met that has the setup to be able to compare the quality between two media sources? Very few people do this. This is a very weak defense of a serious problem.
I don't want to compare the quality from two sources. I want K to be doing that, which is why I spent a ridiculous amount of money on it.
The block artifacts are just really disturbing me and I never see that on my shield and assumed Roku would be the same. Good to know though!
The block artifacts are in fact very noticable, as was the fake grain. What wasn't clear was if it was a K issue or a source issue because I don't generally buy multiple versions of the same thing to compare them. I bought K so I wouldn't have to worry about the best quality - they market that they have reference quality. They do not.
I hope they fix it also, but for now it is defective.
The same reason I did, because it claimed to offer superior quality. I do not believe you are doing right by your customers to pretend these issues are a matter of opinion and not something objectively measured that the company has confirmed is a problem. I certainly wouldn't trust you.
I too do not want to be managing all that myself but now I'm here having just ordered an ugoos because the alternative is relying on a company that doesn't appear sufficiently capable of doing it properly themselves
Very optimistic! I don't think they're taking it very seriously judging by the continued issues we're seeing on releases that they are ignoring.
You do truly excellent work, thank you. I finally got my ugoos am6b plus setup and your guides were excellent. A bit more of a hassle than K, and some of the newer stuff isnāt on BD yet so the lag there is annoying, but I found when I want to go watch something stupid like Mercy it is nice to know that I dont have a year old bug that crops the image for absolutely no reason.
When the quality is there, K is worth it to me for the convenience and ease of use. But with them treating this as a non-issue, they have really burnt bridges I think. People are going to do their research and see that K is really dropping the ball on their biggest selling point (imo).
Don't give up. The people trying to chase us out of here with incivility are doing a disservice to K customers by pretending this well documented problem is fine. K absolutely will not do anything without continued pressure, they are still releasing garbage encodes on top of their hardware defects.
If LG can fix their dithering of their TVs with software but they decide not to is it still just a bug? No, it's a defective product until it's fixed, regardless of if the fix is software or hardware.
Did they try to offer something to get you to stop exposing them?
I am assuming you're being sincere in asking so here you go: So as an example, calling someone defensive can be seen as mocking. You might not feel that way, but some might.
+1 to @Rmarci suggestion that this thread be focused on the visual comparisons he posts, the flaws and defects that have been identified, and K's actions to fix them. This thread gets flooded with distractions and that content which is the topic of this thread gets buried
Did you ever do a comparison for The Last Jedi btw?
It's interesting that despite what a few of the authorized K dealers say, there does seem to be interest from K customers in knowing that the films and hardware they spend a considerable amount of money on can meet the high standards they advertise. It's unfortunate that K appears to feel their inadequate response is sufficient, and they leave it to someone they bully to find the flaws in their systems and encodes. Truly disappointing.
Yep! At an absolute minimum I'd expect them to remove their false and misleading advertising from their front page. Pretty disgusting to be citing Scorsese when they literally can't handle basic encoding let alone the hardware defect that I suspect will not be resolved with the upcoming patch. Hope I'm wrong because it would suck for them to really tank their company over this.
Yeah I'm giving them through April before I engage in next steps. Way too much grace period for the cost I've spent on bogus claims and defective hardware but my ideal scenario is they realize people want want they falsey advertised and remedy the situation. I hate being so noisy on this, the entire reason I spent money on K was because of what they promised on the front page of their website. I understand the the authorized K dealers don't care about that, but I do.
If I owned a company where the entire value proposition was delivering the best experience possible and I was completely failing to meet those high standards, I would be posting much more frequently about it to explain why it takes almost a year to resolve. Are they unable to hire more QA? Are they spending so much on false advertisements or authorized dealer kickbacks that they can't afford to spend more to fix the problem? Who knows, but it would be nice to know. I'm glad they are active on this forum posting about the other problems they have, but it doesn't instill confidence in their products that they don't seem to take this very seriously.
The gear to do this type of QA costs a fraction of the price they charge consumers for their defective hardware. Completely unacceptable.
Has K said anything about this privately? I know they said no one was around over the weekend but they are awfully silent publicly. I do feel like this is going to end up being a "we can't fix" sort of defect.
Given how unseriously they take this I do not think they would do that. At best they would probably just release new hardware in a few years and expect everyone to pay to upgrade to it.
So a full week goes by and still silence from K. Not looking good.
Do we think they might have added the grain to hide this, knowing they had defective hardware? Or is this just downstream from them having no QA and no ability to make sure they can meet the claims they make?
Yeah they figure with their 6 month patch cycle they can just keep promising things they know they will never deliver. Just one more patch will fix it! Just a few more post processing tricks!
It's sad we need a table to know if the issue is:
1. Firmware issue
2. Software issue
3. Encoding problem
4. Source issue
Ideally we'd only complain about item 4.
Seems unlikely it will be July. Last time they had the issue identified in like October or November and it took them until April to get it released because they refused to delay their January release to incorporate the previous fix that was going to resolve everything.
Now they're blaming an unidentified third party, seems almost impossible they're going to get it done in less time than last time.
Would be nice to be wrong, but K doesn't give much reason to believe they will move quickly.
I mean it would be nice if they had a functioning player before they introduced a new one that will presumably have its own set of defects that take them years to fix. I'm guessing their new encoding will also have issues if they keep stubbornly refusing to look at them after encoding them.
Well they took an extraordinary amount of time to fix the first round of issues when it wasn't a third party, and they missed the issues with the third party when they were confidently claiming they were resolving all the issues. Zero reason for us to trust them, they are stubbornly refusing to introduce a quality control process. I would be an immediate customer of the new K hardware if they would explain how they are going to do at least the level of care that Rmarci is doing for free.
If K the company started QA'ing so that their encodings and hardware aren't frequently defective I'd love to upgrade to K the device, but it seems their work on this new device might be why they haven't devoted sufficient resources to fixing the current set of issues. Very disappointing. Will be waiting for trustworthy independent parties to look at this before spending any more money.
It's great they're responsive, although with how much they charge I'm not going to praise them too heavily for only that. Talk is relatively cheap. I'm glad they've continued to work towards the initial promise of the V, releasing many fixes after community reports, but yes I am disappointed that they've announced a supposedly new tier of quality when they didn't meet their claims of the current generation. Most of all I'm disappointed that it's a community member that has to point these things out. They have the technical ability to detect these problems many months before we ever touch the product. I bought into this with the expectation I get from the front page of their website, that *they* are the ones to offer quality.
sigh, I almost hope that K the hardware does have issues or has no improvements once accurately measured by you. I'd like to have a few months with hardware that isn't obsolete the day it became functioning properly.
Do you think the comparisons with K the hardware will be representative for people with V? I'm still wondering if there are issues with the last jedi or if they've updated it
Apparently folks are trying to ban me for using a common expression you can easily search and find others using on here. The authorized K dealer seemed to relish telling me how much I am hated on here and asserted that I enjoy it. Really odd for mods to be the bullies messenger but oh well, it has been fun watching Rmarci improve K so it can almost achieve the advertising on their front page. If Rmarci shows the new K is without issues (I'm giving that a less than 5% Chance since they can't possibly catch all the issues if they don't do basic qa) I'll enjoy purchasing it and being a more passive member of this community, which I think will make the dealers much happier.
My gentle suggestion would be for the dealers to put their energy towards pushing K to fix their process problems that continue to this day.
Watched this last night on K after seeing this and wow, the quality on this was very good. Hard to believe it was done independently, the grading and sound were top notch. The little glints in the eyes were incredible, and the usage of detail in shadows was perfect. Amazing film.
Ultra HD Blu-ray triple-layer discs run at a 144 Mbit/s data rate, so every certified UHD player ever sold decodes sustained streams above Kaleidescape's reported 110ā120 Mbps target on 2016-era silicon.
I just find it so hard to believe this isn't placebo. 11 feet away means we're not talking fine details we're talking major differences. This should be easily capturable and yet as far as I can tell no one is doing this.
Today is the day! If you are looking for movie suggestions to test out, few films look as gorgeous as The Last Jedi
I mean we knew this would happen. Folks confidently said things looked better when they can't possibly compare without doing something like you are doing. The differences are not going to be night and day. The screenshots you post speak for themselves like they have always done. Even on my mobile phone it is easy to pick any image and cycle through it, pick the best, and see it is the old encode. People are once again made to look a bit silly because their previous statements are shown to demonstrate their subjective opinions don't reflect reality. Lots of cope happening and will continue to happen until Mike comes here and once again says they will fix what you found
All of this has happened before and all of this will happen again. Because they won't look at their outputs.
It seems it is hard for many to cope with these findings, I hope K will chime in to let people know they're fixing it. The longer it goes on just looks really bad especially since they just went through this on their last generation encodes
Not sure who you were asking but if me, then no. I bought K so I didn't have to rip films and hunt for the best quality. I believed the reviewers and dealers and the front page marketing that it offered the best quality available. I didn't realize they are literally amateurs that know nothing about video encoding or quality control. I bought extremely expensive hardware and expensive digital licenses and most of it is defective.
Yeah, K is not intentionally destroying these films. It is either incompetence or neglect, depending on how charitable you'd like to be to them.
This was literally the worst possible message we could get from K. With them now digging their heels in claiming they prioritize vibes over what the technical excellence their front-page marketing claims, how can we have any confidence they are going to go back and fix major titles like Star Wars that are still busted? We have no way to track which ones have which defects, and even the latest encodes coming out today have issues. How many films do they have, and how fast do they release encodes?
It seems like it might have to be back to blurays for me, and I hate it. K was way more convenient, but unless they make an easy way to track which releases are defective and which are fixed it is just too much time and effort to get a good experience from it.
Rmarci, business idea for you - repackage Ugoos, upcharge only 10x instead of 100x, and beat them at their game.ā
Like honestly money isn't a factor at all to me. I would be happy to pay this for a product that did what they advertise on the front page of their website. And the maddening thing is they are SO CLOSE. All they have to do is look at the movies they encode. That is it. They just do not care, they know they have enough marketing chops and vendor relations to sell regardless of the slop they put out.
I own a V, where most of the encodes are still defective, and I can't get updated encodes because they are too busy releasing new defective encodes. I was hoping I could just upgrade to K so that I knew anything released as cinematic wouldn't have issues, and now we are in the worst of both worlds where both V and K have issues and they may only fix the issues on K. Yes I know they say they are going to fix the others, but they also claim on the front page of their site that they will not soften their encodes so they literally cannot be taken at their word.
