US Digital Releases for September & October 2026

Someone gave me this analogy. At what point in your financial life, would you walk by a $20 bill vs. picking it up. Would you pick up a quarter? A $1, $5 or $10 bill? So, to the point, is it worth wasting $25 on it?
I would pick them all up, lol.

I'm going to guess that it's not a movie that you'd want to see more than once, perhaps rent it?

Its a wait for it to drop in price and go on sale. Rental is $19.99 vs buy at $25, right? Coyote vs. Acme dropped in price already. I bought it for $25 or whatever it was on release. I liked it but I would have waited.

Didn't realize rental was that expensive!

You should wait for a sale. After all, someone posted above that it was the worst movie they've seen in a long time.

Oh shit! The movie is $34.99 and to rent is $25.95! Hard pass on that one.

Verity and The End of Oak Street are still in the premium phase.

There are typically 3 phases:
  • Pre-order/Still in theaters - technically two phases, but one price point
  • Digital exclusive - released on digital store platforms, price drops by $5
  • Wide release - when the disc drops, the price settles to where it will live outside of sales
Not all releases go through this, but it's when you see new release prices changing. Sometimes it's $30/25/15. With Warner big releases, it's typically $40/35/25 or 20. We're still in the $35 phase for Oak Street, but as you see, sometimes there will also be a sale in that window as well.

Rental prices also drop in these windows. Note that any rental price above $7.95 is considered a premium rental and is not eligible to apply a portion towards purchase.

Other digital stores have the same pricing structures.

Oak Street is now down to $15

But we’re “Linus’ Millionaire Movie Club Members” - who cares how much they cost? 😂😂😂

Honestly compared to Apple / Fandango, I don’t mind paying a small upcharge for Kscape quality ($5-$10). But how the hell can MGM justify $35 for Verity and Warner $40 for Supergirl or EoOS when Universal is releasing The Odyssey for $25?!?

Probably because they were/are haemorrhaging money and need all the money they can claw back. Them and Paramount have been saddled with even more debt so let’s see how that turns out…

I still maintain that I wouldn’t pay for anything on streaming services not included in the sub. The audio quality isn’t worth it for me and may as well just throw away the money because I wouldn't watch it when I have the option to do so with the proper dynamic range on KScape or disc.

When it comes to prices on K...Warner and MGM(especially when it comes to disc to digital) piss me off the most....Disney not far behind. But like you said...no big deal for us Millionaires. :)

Discs are also getting more expensive (and harder to buy), and it's all still cheaper than two people going to the theater.

I took my two kids to see Wildwood this weekend. Between tickets, concessions, and parking it was north of $200. I just ordered the movie on 4K UHD Blu-ray and after tax and shipping it was $60. The idea that digital releases in 2026 are still around the same $20 they were decades ago is stunning and should be expected to change.

Well if you do insist on hiring the entire theater :)

No doubt. As I have said many times...since building the theater...getting close to 12 years now...we have not set foot in a commercial theater. I know many will disagree but I welcome the day when theaters go the way of the laserdisc.

While I wish prices were more consistent across studios........I am still kinda surprised prices for digital and discs have remained as low as they have for this long. By now I would have fully expected studios to start pricing new movies at $75 to $100 just to recoup their claim that home video has hurt their business. Oh well Jinx time =P I figure if and when 8k releases start becoming a thing..that will be their chance.

Given they make most of their money from initial theatre releases, I’m not so sure it is a good idea, although I guess you could argue the ridiculous marketing budgets could be removed if it was free through the online platforms.

The main reason I’d be against it though is I can’t imagine them bothering to make lossless audio mixes if it’s only ever going to be played on devices not capable of outputting lossless audio (streamers) as Kaleidescape isn’t a big enough market and in that eventually discs will already be gone. We’d see the same audio regression we got when everyone switched to MP3 and just have years of new releases with terrible audio until they thought they could milk us again for lossless tracks.

Not that I’m helping to keep them alive on that front but then I have my own HT room that other than scale is better than commercial cinemas which most people don’t have but I do spend a lot more on home releases than I ever did in the cinema.

This has been a fear of mine for awhile now.
