US Digital Releases for July & August 2026

Drive and Apocalypse Now upgraded to Cinematic! I don’t know about anyone else, but these instant upgrades are very exciting and have me checking the app multiple times a day. With disc releases, you tend to wait months between the announcement and release. That we get a new format with releases daily—I am loving this. I’ve watched so many Cinematic titles in the past few weeks.

I really hope Drive gets updated to 4K Cinematic before my screening on Saturday!

Holy moly! That makes 4/4 Kaleidescape films that have updated to 4K Cinematic – the day before my scheduled festival screening!

Skip it and watch Tuner instead. You'll thank me later.
Tuner (2025) just updated to Dolby Atmos (but still no HDR). Literally, one day after I watched it without Atmos !

Euphoria (Season 2) (2022) in SDR from Warner Bros.

Apocalypse Now Final Cut is in 4K Cinematic. Apocalypse Now is in HD. Because K is K. :(

Has the "regular" version been removed from the store? I swore I had a Disc to Digital offer for it, but it is no longer there and I can only find the Final Cut version in the store.

The original is available in HD as an Extra on The Final Cut. Same with Redux. On other digital stores all three versions are available in 4K Dolby Vision as separate purchases or a bundle, which is what I would like to see with K.

For seven years, the focus has been on reproducing the three most immersive types of Dolby Atmos proximity effects:

  1. Voice pan-around: Tilda Swinton’s voice in Doctor Strange and the Mysterio scene in Spider-Man: Far From Home.
  2. Topsmmersion: the monster’s footfalls on the tin shed in 10 Cloverfield Lane while the klaxon is blaring.
  3. Ping-pong side-to-side effects: the avalanche explosions in Black Widow and the giant praying mantis’s footsteps in the parking lot in Goosebumps.
This time around, however, the primary focus—and the full intent—was to evaluate the video performance on my uncoated, light-absorbing MIP videowall. That is the principal achievement of this script. Videowalls and 4K Cinematic go hand in hand because its most widely recognized benefits—dynamics, color rendition, image cleanliness, and so forth—are far more pronounced on this videowall.

Someone high within our immediate circle described it as the best videowall he had ever seen. He later turned out to be a true videowall connoisseur, intimately familiar with seven different videowalls. The absence of a surface coating allows this display to mimic a projected image more closely, during either daytime or nighttime viewing.

The wild-ass discovery was that, during the Mysterio scene in Spider-Man: Far From Home, 4K Cinematic—or perhaps the K Player itself—beat the living pants off the Strato S playing the 4K UHD version. The improvement encompassed dynamics, voice wraparound, and even better sound clocking. I am using only a lowly Marantz receiver, yet it sounded twice as good.

Approximately one-third of the other scenes also looked two to three times better on the MIP videowall. Directly opposite it, on the bedroom LG display, the improvements in image dynamics and colorimetry were largely lost.

It is extremely difficult next to impossible to capture the splendor of the image of a videowall, nature of the beast but here I try (to give you an idea). :)

Impossible to capture. This is my rather fragile, two-year-old 1.2 mm, 10-bit, sub-0.005-nit black-crushing, uncoated MIP videowall, with a 10,000:1 panel contrast ratio and an obsolete XM11202 driver chip. That is what happens when you try to buy the best-looking videowall at a show and take the saleslady’s word for it: they firewall the engineers, and substandard products are the result. That is what the hi praise by one of our most ardent videowall conosieurs came completely out of the left field. It looked good before but 4K CINEMATIC took it way to another level.

I subsequently connected directly with XM-PLUS—the Rolls-Royce of videowall driver-chip engineering—and commissioned a prototype capable of 12-bit 4:4:4 at 240 Hz, exceeding DCI specifications and targeting a black level of 0.003 nits. The new videowall uses rugged 4-in-1 MIP technology at a 0.93 mm pixel pitch, with a panel native contrast ratio of 38,000:1 and XM-PLUS’s top-of-the-line driver chip.

It has been engineered through collaboration with one of China’s most respected and influential authorities in LED-display technology, with the direct involvement of the Deputy Secretary-General of the LED Display Application Branch of the China Optics and Optoelectronics Manufacturers Association. Our development program is supported by an engineering organization that has played a central role in advancing China’s LED-display industry, contributing to national technical standards, numerous pioneering innovations, and many of the technologies underpinning today’s professional large-format LED displays. We have high hopes, but with all the current projects pushed to the end of August we will be waiting a bit, crossing fingers because guess what happened last week?

Challenging times, oh well at least we have 4K Cinematic to sweeten our lifestyles.;)
Can we put this promotional material elsewhere? Not really anything to do with new releases. And the script should be moved to the Resources section where scripts live. @josh @cinelife

Is there a tentative release date for Minions and Monsters and Toy Story 5?

Asking for an anxious 4 and 10 yr old who are giving Dad the K-Scape pre-order "are we there yet" type treatment daily 😂😂😂

Best guesses:
Minions and Monsters - August 11th
Toy Story 5 - August 18th

Either could be early, particularly Minions as Universal has dropped successful films abnormally early. However, after being rumored to do so with Mario Galaxy they wound up holding it longer. So, the above represents “business as usual.”

Looks like The Death of Robin Hood is showing up on Fandango and Amazon Prime for tomorrow (28th). Hopefully K has it too!

It looks like "Scary Movie" has been updated across digital stores (not K yet) as "Scary Movie Extended Cut." This new version entirely replaces the prior one and I assume all buyers have had their purchases transitioned. The Theatrical Cut is now available as a bonus feature on this new version, so buyers haven't lost anything. It'll be interesting to see how K handles this as they don't offer the Extras for this title (yet).

Lawrence of Arabia added in 4K Cinematic SDR & HDR (!!!) with Dolby Atmos from Sony:
With the HDR addition (and hopefully DV not far behind), I'm going to assume that we're dealing with the long-missing updated assets. Amazing!!!

It’s listed in the movie store for a release tomorrow, it shows a 4k cinematic with SDR?
