Only being in the K world for about a year but has it always been this way that "pre-orders" show up long before release date is even known?...lately seems to just pop up soon as movie is released to theater. I guess to me the whole concept of "pre-order" seems silly with digital media...not like they are gonna run out or I am gonna have to wait in a line.

There are at least a couple of reasons. First and probably most important, it makes it convenient to buy something when you hear about it or are thinking about it, rather than having to remember weeks later that it was something you wanted.

Second, pre-ordered content downloads in advance of the release day, so that it can appear upon release, rather having to wait to begin downloading. Although very fast Internet connections are becoming more common, there are still many customers who don't have blazing-fast Internet, and so this makes the content available to watch right away.

I love the preorder function. It tells me a title is planned for release, and I can plan a viewing around that. I preorder titles I’m really excited for, and I’m often up at midnight anyway to preview it. I won’t watch a whole movie then, but it’s great to have it at the earliest possible second.

I also preorder discs a lot, and some retailers ship early. I prioritize those even if they cost more, so I can get my movie as soon as possible.

Maybe there’s something wrong with me, but that’s a different post!
