US BR & 4K Releases for September & October 2024

Ralph Potts gave a 100 for the atmos track on Chronicles of Riddick. Unfortunately the atmos track is unavailable on the Director’s cut, but still can’t wait to check it out.
I noticed that as well. 100/100 is high praise. And that opening invasion scene with the ships descending from space seems custom made for Atmos. I may have to A/B test that scene to choose which version of the film I actually sit down to watch. I recall thinking the DC really elevated the film.

@JohnJ It appears that the remaining Rocky movies had their digital releases (on other platforms) this week:
Rocky V 4K HDR/Dolby Vision
Rocky Balboa 4K HDR/Dolby Vision
Rocky Balboa: The Ultimate Director's Cut 4K HDR/Dolby Vision

Thanks. I track releases on Blu-ray.com and on digital releases they do not keep track of 4K upgrades. I don’t have the time to monitor streaming services to see when these are added.

Totally understood. I haven’t found any ways to track these myself, and have simply been checking Apple each week. I’m only calling these out because they’re high profile and have been in digital limbo since the physical release. Thanks!

@MikeKobb

Someone's spell checker has kicked in badly on the movie info on Beetlejuice :D "Betelgeuse", maybe a translation error?

Fun fact: That’s how the character’s name is spelled in the world of the movie. For example, Wikipedia lists the titular member of the cast as: “Michael Keaton as Betelgeuse (pronounced Beetlejuice).”

I actually just ordered the old Beetlejuice last night, I was surprised it was in 4K. I have not watched it since we saw it years ago when it came out.

The Good Half (2023) in UHD/HD with DTS-HD Master 5.1 from Relativity Media

Added from RLJ Entertainment with DTS-HD MA 5.1

I hope Kscape reconsiders the 39.99 charge for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice when the 4K Disc is already up for pre-order for 24.95. Normally I would not complain, but that a big difference for right off the bat.

Pricing is effectively determined by the studio. Sometimes new-release movies are priced at a premium, especially if they're coming pretty close to theatrical release or well in advance of physical media. I'm not sure what the case is with this movie specifically.

It's not unusual for premium new releases to be priced at $39.99. Beetlejuice is not alone; see Trap.

Often, others drop to, or start at, $34.99 (e.g. Dune, Furiosa, Horizon, Watchers, Godzilla-Kong). We know we are paying a premium to other services (such as Google) or 4K discs. However, if you wait, the price usually drops to a more competitive level, and K-Scape often offers special or flash-deal pricing on new releases. See The Bikeriders ($14.99).

And, if you're really patient, you can sometimes can great deals on content sets (e.g. Star Trek 10 Original Movies).

I would love to see K-Scape get to a place with tiered pricing where the price in this example holds but access is granted after opening weekend in the theatre vs. digital release on all platforms.

You pay a premium, but you get what you pay for type scenario re: early access with only 96hrs after opening weekend (assuming Thursday release standard).

Everybody wins…..

Went to purchase Skinamarink, and it says it’s not compatible with the Strato V. Very strange that a brand new release wouldn’t be put up in the new HD format…

Maybe there are exceptions, but this is only true for one single studio. Warner! All other studios release new releases at lower costs.

This would make me a happy camper. Way I see it...is I do not care what the movie is or how much I want to see it, I am not setting foot in a commercial theater ever again....so I am willing to give the studios a premium $$$ to watch said movie when its released to theaters....or pay them less later like we do now. The choice is theirs.
