US BR & 4K Releases for September & October 2024

On "Seven Samurai," for what it's worth, ToHo did not release it in HDR. (None of their Kurosawa 4K discs are HDR.)

Looks like Fargo has been added in 4K .
This one intrigues me. It's distributed on 4K UHD Blu-ray disc by Shout!, but digitally by MGM. There's certainly precedent for this with the Bill & Ted movies, where the digital releases are 4K SDR but the Shout! discs are HDR/DV. That model is exactly mirrored with Fargo at the other digital stores, where Apple and Vudu have it in 4K SDR. However, on K, we're seeing full 4K HDR/DV, matching the disc. HOW???

Kudos to the K content team on however this happened.

Added Monday 10/28
The Critic (2024) in UHD/HD with DTS-HD Master 5.1 from Lionsgate (UK)

Added Tuesday 10/29
Babes (2024) in HDR/UHD/HD with DTS-HD Master 5.1 from NBCUniversal (UK)
Doesn’t happen very often that the uk get a film first. But the critic is on available in uk.

Added in 4K SDR/HDR/DV with DTS HD-Master 5.1 from Warner/Discovery

Question regarding JFK d2d; I noticed this is a WB distribution. I have the shout factory 4k set (includes the Blu-ray). Will I still get a d2d offer? Or does the Blu-ray have to be the older (Warner licensed) Blu-ray in order to be eligible?

You'll get D2D. I have the same set and bought the HD for $3.14 and was able to upgrade to 4K for $4.92.

Thanks for sharing that info, I would also be curious to see the differences.

I would also like to mention that they did a similar thing with The Seventh Seal 4k. Again BFI release in the UK included HDR. I have both versions and prefer the BFI version for my own personal consumption. Of course ymmv.
Not to beat a dead horse, but more to help fellow buyers with another data point. I also have both the Criterion 4K Seven Samurai and the BFI 4K HDR Seven Samurai, and just did some rapid A/B comparisons since I have both discs ripped to Plex. The BFI disc is a lot better looking. It has more contrast and less scrubbing clean. The Criterion disc looks processed and flat in comparison. They look surprisingly different to my eye. I am also now going to be cautious with Criterion going forward, and see if there is another version around the corner to compare against. I do feel like the Criterion Seven Samurai was an unnecessary purchase in hindsight.
