Strato V black screen and audio cutout issues

Just bought a V that will arrive on Tuesday.

You guys are scaring me. LOL

Strato V >> Monoprice HTP-1 >> Lumagen RP >> JVC RS3000

Does the Strato C not have this issue?
Get rid of anything Monoprice... the V doesn't play well with cheap cables, unfortunately learned it the hard way :-(

He’s referring to the Monoprice HTP-1 A/V processor.

The HTP-1 is an incredible 16-channel processor with Dirac DLBC, and I use Bullet Train cables for all sources because of my Lumagen.

I have Monoprice braided cables sending a full fat 48Gbps 4k/120hz/12bit/RGB HDR signal from my PC to my tv and it hasn’t faltered once. The V only uses a fraction of this bandwidth.

Correct I was referencing the mono cables… if you have a long run over 18gbps and need a top tier cable I would steer clear.

My screen also went black after finishing Zodiac (newly updated to 4K HDR DV). I am using Sony X95L TV and Sony STR-AZ7000ES receiver (with Strato V default settings), not Denon or Marantz. To return to the K-Scape UI, I had to use Control4 remote to change source to Apple TV and then back to K-Scape.

10ft is my longest run. Haven’t had cable issues by sticking to certified ones. Now if you are doing one of those in wall long twists and turns 50ft runs then you probably need to fork up the cash for fancy ones.
My setup is about 25’ from AVR up into the attic and down to the LG G3. I had an Amazon highwings (I think) cable that had been there for years that worked flawlessly including with my Strato C. Once you introduce the V into your system all hell breaks loose if you have a weak link in your system. It was released too early without enough testing and it will make you pay👍

So we have Marantz, Denon and Sony acting up. Common denominator: V.

I´m wondering if the V is a bit weak on the output side and an HDMI power injector might probably help...

It loses its HDMI handshake to my TV, and the only way to getting it back is to power off the V, wait a few seconds and power it back on.
Did you also try to power cycle the tv or just switch inputs on the tv?
As mentioned in the our thread, i could imagine an HDMI power injector could probably help?

I tried doing that too. Power off tv, switch inputs. Fastest is just power off V and power back on with remote. That works every time. Finally I decided to set UI to 24hz and that keeps it from happening.

So far, I've only seen the black screen happen once, and I've left my UI at 60 Hz. I've played quite a bit of content in and out as well, including last night demo'ing a bunch of scenes for a friend.

That is not good customer support whatsoever :(

Maybe they just dont care about us peasant D&M owners. :(

I've been involved with K for 20+ years, first as an owner, and then as a Dealer. I own or have owned every product K has released. They have ALWAYS had the best Support among all of the companies I've dealt with in the AV industry. I realize there are some owners of the new V Player that are experiencing less than the best these devices can produce, and this has led to some frustration comments, like yours, and a couple of others.

First, there is no one in Support more knowledgeable than Rusty, but even he can only go so far in diagnosing a problem. When Support is unsuccessful in finding and correcting the problem, they will escalate the Case by sending the info to engineering for their input. That's all real, engineering will investigate and notify Support of its findings. It can sometimes be a week or two (maybe longer in some cases) before Engineering provides their input.

I can't speak to why certain displays present challenges, but I do know that amongst the major companies producing displays, we've experienced the most issues with LG (followed by some Samsung models). I asked three of my V clients about performance after installation and all three loved the V and were not experiencing any of the issues discussed above. Two of these clients are using Sony flat panel displays, one is using a Sony projector.

Personally, I have two Strato-V's in use, one to a Sony GTZ380 projector, and one to a new 85" Sony Bravia 9 display, and to this point have not experienced any problems (and no EE on either display), and the screen returns to the K UI when a movie ends.

Regarding testing the V with various displays before release, I'm sure K followed their usual testing procedures and were satisfied with the performance before release. What K cannot account for is all of the other components and cables that some of us have in our systems.
The more complex we make our systems, the more likely we'll encounter problems. We almost never have a problem when a Player is connected directly to the display with nothing in the AV chain. (except for the occasional LG issue).

I do understand the frustration of some owners that got their new V and had problems, but I'm sure K engineering will do their best to find a solution as soon as possible.

Going back to Rusty in Support, I think it's unfair to criticize him just because the Case had to be escalated to engineering. He's a knowledgeable, dedicated, helpful professional, and a great guy, he deserves better!!

Thanks for the good information. I got my shipping notice and my V arrives Wed. I am excited for this new tech. I am very happy to read elsewhere the Store UI will be added to the V soon.

So I watched two movies yesterday.. Pacific Rim in Dolby Vision and Paddington 2 in HDR. This was me testing it with a cheaper yamaha DV AVR I came into possession of. I had zero issues with either movie, no black image after resuming pause and no audio cutouts. I'm glad because I was getting ready to return the Strato V thinking it was defective. So it really does seem like it's an issue with Marantz and Denon AVRs.

I was having the same issues as the rest of you. Image drop, frozen UI on resume etc. I have a Denon X6700H and a 2023 LG 83" G3:
Strato C worked flawlessly for over a year with a 30' passive Highwings brand HDMI ran up the wall through the attic and down to the "floating: TV.
Swapped to V and all hell broke loose including the "pink" OSD from the AVR along with incompatible messages etc.
I swapped the HDMI cable from the Denon out to the TV painstakingly with the Pixelgen TXH $350 ACTIVE cable (same brand packaged with the V) and all the issues have been resolved minus the occasional pink OSD. No changing settings, no passthrough this or LLDV that and no HZ changes to the Strato UI.
IMHO and I'm not an engineer or expert but if you read the specs on the V the power consumption is nearly half the C, they changed the power supply, and they aren't rendering the UI in native 4K. I think the unit is underpowered.
