Popcorn Ready - Chrome extension for Kaleidescape users

@OUTATIME – as a classic Popcorn Ready user, I didn't realize that it was now integrated on the K store directly until a few seconds ago when I noticed it in the store navigation! Holy moly, that's fantastic! Congratulations!!!!@!!!!

Yes, it's just a content script that adds a link to Popcorn Ready on the movie store page if you have the extension installed on your browser.

I've created a Chrome extension for Kaleidescape users called Popcorn Ready and it is now available in the Chrome Web Store at: Popcorn Ready

Popcorn Ready is a Chrome extension designed for Kaleidescape users to provide alternative ways to view and search your movie library featuring enhanced data from The Movie Database (TMDB).

You can view, filter, search and sort your movie library either by clicking the Popcorn Ready chrome extension icon or by going to the My Movies page on the Kaleidescape Movie Store, where a content script will add a Popcorn Ready tab in the existing page. Click any movie title on the Popcorn Ready tab to open a recommendations tab that will have the top 5 recommendations provided by TMDB that are available on the Kaleidescape movie store. If you don't already own one of the recommendations, then that title will be a hyperlink to that movie on the Kaleidescape movie store.

Have too many movies, but can't decide what to watch? While in the Popcorn Ready tab you can get between 1-9 random movies to choose from.

Want a random movie from a more familiar user interface? Then navigate to your local Kaleidescape system at http://my-kaleidescape.local/movies where a content script will add a Popcorn Ready button right in that user interface that will choose a random movie and click it to bring up the details.

Another content script will add a Kaleidescape logo next to any title on an IMDB movie page if that title is available on the Kaleidescape movie store. Click the logo to goto the movie page on Kaleidescape.

Hope that you guys enjoy it! Let me know if you have any great ideas for enhancements. Probably not going to port to Safari at this time as I don't want to pay the $100 annual dev fee to Apple for this one small project.
I notice that in one of the menus, "movie" is misspelled. It shows in as "Exit Random Moive Night".
Probably a simple fix, but it will require an updated release.

I tried the Orion browser but get a “failed to refresh library” message. Anyone get this and know how to fix it. Thanks.

You need to have logged into the Kaleidescape movie store on that browser. Then Popcorn Ready can just use that cookie.

Haven't opened this extension in awhile. Looks nice!

Some feedback. Maybe you could make the random pick process faster or give an option to just generate a few options instantly.
The 1 sec per movie countdown of contenders takes a while to complete and I only have 120 movies. It also pauses the countdown if you switch browser tabs.

Cool, glad you like it! I used to just show the random choices instantly before I added the suspense and drama of the animations. Couple of options for you to speed things up if desired: you can decrease the size of your browser window before clicking random on wall mode and the random selection process will start with only however many movies are displayed in that smaller window. Another option is to temporarily switch to Cards view and then click Random...then you'll get the slot machine animation which is relatively quick.

Got it. I do prefer the overall look of the wall and the wall countdown over the card reel spin. I don't know how feasible this is, but is there a way to have a user defined setting for the speed of the wall countdown? Normal, fast, ludicrous?

I think for now I'll just make it so clicking the spacebar will "fast forward" until the final reveal with the final 3 selections.

As long as I'm in there and adding a keyboard handler, I'll also do your suggestion of "Standard Speed", "Fast Speed", and "Warp Speed". I'll make it so the right/up arrows increase speed and the left/down arrow keys decrease speed and I'll save your preference.

1.5.8 is submitted and you should get it very soon. Thanks for the idea!

In the wall random movie mode you can now click spacebar to fast forward to the final reveal. You can also click right/up arrows to increase the speed and left/down to decrease speed and they'll cycle between standard/fast/warp speed and it will save your preference for future random movie nights.

Thanks. I had logged in. Wondering if I have a security setting that needs to be changed.
If you go back to Kaleidescape movie store does it make you login again there too? If so maybe you have a setting on to clear cookies when you close the browser?

Awesome! Works perfectly!

Have dug into this tool more...a wonderful enhancement to the Kaleidescape UI. Nice work!

Initially when I refreshed the actual K movie store it was signing out but I cleared cache and that seems to stay logged in. Nonetheless popcorn ready still won’t load movies with “error loading your movie library“ message. I tried adjusting security settings from default but no luck. Same issues if I try Orion on my iPhone. Happy for any suggestions. I know it was designed for Chrome but does seem it works for others. I really do like the advanced sorting abilities over what the K store offers and having it available on an iPad would be nice.

Hmmm...I'm not sure what could be blocking it on your iPad. After another user reported Orion browser by Kagi working for this extension on iPad I did test that myself and I installed the browser and didn't change any settings. I logged into Kaleidescape movie store first and then Popcorn Ready worked fine. All Popcorn Ready needs is that Kaleidescape movie store login cookie to include when it calls out to get your library.

I haven't tried Orion on iPhone but I doubt that one supports full Chrome desktop extensions like the iPad version of Orion by Kagi does. Even the iPad version doesn't claim to have full support for desktop extensions.

I just submitted 1.5.9 that has some additional logic around the error handling. If this is really an error where it can't use your cookie to login to Kaleidescape then it should hopefully now show you a better error message with a link to the store to login.

If that's not it, then I'm not really sure what is causing it to not work on your iPad on Orion browser by Kagi. My best guess would be a content blocker that you could have running on kaleidescape.com where you'd need to disable it on that website or possibly security setting that is automatically deleting history/cookies. Sorry, just kind of guessing here as I can't recreate the error on my iPad with Orion by Kagi.
