Popcorn Ready - Chrome extension for Kaleidescape users

I keep the plugin on my chrome bar and check it maybe weekly. Really like it as well.
Glad to hear that! I'll make a little backlog of feature requests and then eventually I'll dive back in and knock some out and release a new version.

Question: Do users want the ability to search BOTH your own library and the Kaleidescape movie store? I saw a request in another thread from @LoveCinema for Kaleidescape to search both and separate the results. Is that something that would make sense to see in Popcorn Ready? If so, are there any other "shortcomings" to searching the Kaleidescape movie store that could be addressed in Popcorn Ready?

Maybe search by release year. Is adding an "unwatched" movie filter in the realm of possibility?

Unwatched isn't really a good option here because you'd have to manually manage the watch status of every movie in the extension. However, if you're just trying to pick a random movie to watch from your Watch Soon list or any other Kaleidescape collection, then you could go to the local Kaleidescape interface in Chrome and there will be a little Popcorn Ready button that will pick a random movie from that selected Collection.

I do already have the release years in the filters. Another one I use often is runtime...for example when I know I only have up to 2 hours so I need to find a movie less than that. If you search for a movie, director, keyword, etc it will then apply any selected filters and you'll see the filtered list. The CSV exports also honor the filters so you could export a CSV file of movies from your library with specific years, genres, etc.

Thanks for explaining. I must have overlooked the release years. I have used the runtime featur as well.

Although I can't tell what movies you've watched automatically, I suppose that I could add a Queue to the application that you could manage. Search results and filters and even the random movie chooser functionality could work either on your whole library or just your queue. Would this be valuable for anyone? Or maybe that's too close to what we can already do with collections in the Kaleidescape UI?

I don't know if the juice is worth the squeeze for you on that one, but it could be fun to mess with.

Great Extension!! Love it!!!

Is there a way you can add screen aspect?
Unfortunately it looks like aspect ratio isn't available in the data source. I'll check to see if there is another way to fetch that but it doesn't look promising at this point.

Also is there a way to see movies you don't own for recommending? or Movies most viewed by others?
If you click on the title of one of your owned movies, it will bring up a new page with up to 5 recommendations provided by TMDB. If you don't own any of those movies, then that title will be a hyperlink to the movie on the Kaleidescape store.

At this time, I haven't added any ability to browse the full available Kaleidescape store catalog or to see recommendations other than the recommendations based off of individual titles in your library.

In terms of movies most viewed by others....I'm not storing any data and the user base is so small that it wouldn't be worthwhile. However, I'm integrated with TMDB (themoviedb.org) and they do have the concept of popularity. So it would be possible to show Kaleidescape movies sorted by TMDB popularity.

Hi everyone! I just checked and we are now over 100 unique weekly users of the Popcorn Ready Chrome Extension! Thank you!

I'm looking to dig back into the code of Popcorn Ready and make some improvements! But first, I have 2 favors to ask of anyone here that is still using it or would like to try.

1. I would love to gather some great enhancement ideas from users or potential users so I can create a list of features to add the next time I dig into the code. So, if you have any ideas that haven't been addressed in this thread, please share them and I'll let you know if it's possible in this next development sprint.

2. Although there are 100 weekly users, we still have ZERO ratings on the Chrome web store for the extension. If you're enjoying it, could you please give it a rating. This will help grow the user base and allow us to get even more feedback for future enhancements.

Here is the link to the listing in the Chrome web store: Popcorn Ready

It won't allow me to lave a review. It says the content is not available.

Hmmm....not sure why? Are you using Chrome and logged in with the same Google username that has already installed the extension? If so, maybe some sort of version issue even though I haven't updated in many months? You could try removing the extension and then adding it again.

It looks good, but some metadata is missing from some titles in the store.

Thank you! I haven't implemented TV Series support. You'll still see them in your library, but none of the enhanced metadata is there. It isn't a great fit for the cards I have designed as the cast, ratings, etc could all change on a season by season or even episode by episode basis.

It's not the extension. This is the store from my phone's browser. Won't let me rate it. The extension works fine from PC. I'm not sure if new users have access to it though, because of this message.

I’m thinking that’s just because you’re on a phone and the extension isn’t supported there.
