Movie Updates

Hi,
I just bought The Animatrix as a D2D. Yes I was warned about it only being available in SD at the moment, I'm just wondering if it's slipped through the cracks for an HD update.
Thank you for checking and...
Happy movie viewing!
Not slipped through the cracks, just hasn’t been updated yet. Some much bigger titles still on the to do list, so no worries.

There are 3 movies being released in 4K HDR in December (Dogma, Minority Report, and Dante's Peak). What are the chances of any of these 3 being upgraded or provided on the K store? I'm thinking that since Minority Report is the only one being released by a major studio (Paramount), this one has the best chance of being on K. Does K have a good record when Paramount movies are released on 4K HDR on disc, that they will also be available on the K store?

Dogma: Will be available to K. K will hopefully choose to get it. It's a highly demanded title. I'd say 75% chance.

Minority Report: Will be available to K. K will get it. K previously jumped the gun on this title accidentally releasing it in 4K SDR. I'm sure they're seizing the opportunity to "make this right" and get the update.

Dante's Peak: Will NOT be available to K. Universal title released through Kino Lorber. Universal will retain HD digital rights. 4K will remain disc exclusive.

Hopefully Minority Report will also have HDR when they release it in 4K on K.

It’ll hit digital with 4K Dolby Vision. What K decides to get is anyone’s guess but I think it’s more likely than not that we get HDR/DV.

Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) from NBCUniversal updated...
To include DV/UHD with Dolby TrueHD Atmos.
HDR version updated to Dolby TrueHD Atmos

Any idea if K will get updates for Eyes Wide Shut and Excalibur in 4K? I'm holding out hope since Barry Lyndon got an update and that was a Criterion release.

Default answer is no to both. But, as you point out, Barry Lyndon. What up with that? I'd assume it's an anomaly until we see a trend. I've already got Eyes Wide Shut in hand and Excalibur is pre-ordered.

No Country for Old Men also available on K after release by Criterion.

I have EWS on order from Amazon because it is a signature movie for Kubrick and I don't want to miss it if the printing sells out and K doesn't get it

I have several Updates siting in my account, where a PCM Stereo Audio track is the only thing that is being added or changed. I have no interest or need for this, so haven't updated. It's probably not much file size difference, but given the storage costs, I would prefer to not add to it unnecessarily.

But is there a way to 'decline' these Updates so that they don't appear in the list? Over time these are going to accumulate and clutter things up.
I'm now up to 4 movies showing in the Movie Update page where I don't need or want to update them. Surely there must be a way to remove these??

Yeah, from a user perspective, I hear you. No sense in even wasting the bandwidth/HDD cycles for something of no value. The notifications are almost a nuisance.

From a software developer perspective, even small features like this have a cost larger than you probably realize. If you offer a way to hide it, you have to have a way to unhide in case it was done accidentally or the user changes their mind. You have to track that info in the database, update your services, design a place for it in your UI, test it, document it, etc.

I'm not saying it would be "hard", but there's probably places I'd rather they spend their time. I can just roll my eyes and ignore the updates that add a 2.0 audio track. :)

Apple has a "Hide Purchase" feature that I screwed up in just that way... I bought a TV show in SD, later upgraded to HD. I hid the wrong version on accident but didn't discover until later. Newer software merged versions. I owned HD but could only watch SD. Tech Support nightmare over weeks, screenshots, receipts, etc. I gave up and bought a "Complete Series" boxset for far less money than my time was worth.

Sorry, my Apple Tech Support trauma showing. But, yeah, sometimes something as simple as a "Hide Purchase" option is rather complex.

As a software product developer, I go round-n-round with "product managers" who consistently refuse to acknowledge the consequences/"necessary elaborations" of their one little new feature. (sorry, my product development trauma showing).

K seems to understand this better than most given the new K-OS and the ability to toggle new features on and off.

I have the same issue and since it can't be done, I just threw in the towel and do the upgrades. Usually, it's just for an audio track that's been added. As the track takes up a minuscule amount of storage space, it's no big deal. I'd rather update, than look at a list of movies requiring an update.

Yeah, I may eventually succumb as well, for exactly the same reasons...

I currently have 6 titles in the Movie Updates section and 147 in the Strato HD Compatibility section that I won't update because doing so will result in a lesser product (removal of alternate cuts, removal of extras, extras in SD instead of HD, loss of audio tracks, etc.). I'm on a Strato C so I have the ability to wait things out until they get restored. But, honestly, I didn't think we'd hit 1.5 years and still have such a backlog.
