Last movie watched

Watched this one last night on another service:

Fun little thriller/horror flick to kick off October. If there's any justice, this one should get some attention and may be a little break out hit ala Talk to Me, Barbarian, etc. Good performances, interesting pacing/storytelling, etc. It's shot on 35mm, and with the vibe you'd almost expect it to go for a grainy 70's look, but it's actually a pretty clean (though soft) image where the color saturation is maxed out. This is the kind of "smaller" film that would play really well on K. It appears to be from a completely new studio/distributor, but perhaps one K should be talking to.

Been interested in this one. Every shot I've seen is gorgeous, and to discover the cinematographer was Giovanni Ribisi is pretty interesting. Definitely in my 'must see' list.

Here is an off the radar horror movie that was well shot in black and white. Perfect for Halloween.

I hadn't even heard of this, but it looks really good. Thanks for the suggestion.

Saw this in the theaters. Really enjoyed it and and the cinematography was great. It even had a title card at the beginning that said "Shot on 35mm film". I really hope we get this on K (especially in 4K).

Someone here had recommended Stardust which I finally saw last night. It took me a moment to go along with the mashup of all things, but I did laugh and feel the feels once I got into it!

Just added on K (in 4k). I went ahead and purchased it based on the comments here and some other reviews.

I'm happy my sacrifice to the viewing gods was well received. Second purchase underway; happy to support films like this on K.

Arrived recently in the mail and got a chance to watch it last night. German 4k/mediabook release (capelight pictures). Great transfer and audio. Been a while since I last watched this.

Hopefully the uhd comes to K in the near future.

Finally Watched Asteroid city. Purchased a year ago, but wife wasn't interested so hadn't gotten around to watching it. Not sure what I just watched. I know what to expect out of Wes Anderson films, but either I just didn't get it or this film is simply nonsensical.

I also noticed a heavy screen door effect during one scene in the tent at around 1:25:15. It replicated. Sony xw6000es. Never seen this before. Not a big deal. Probably will never watch this title again. If someone got something out of this movie or felt differently about it, please chime in. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

The thing about Asteroid City is that it's a movie about a TV documentary about a play. So everything happening (both visually and the style of the dialog) has a somewhat unreal and sometimes exaggerated quality to it because the root is the stage production.

I loved it. I watched it and was so captivated by it I watched it again a couple of weeks later.

As for the screen door effect, I took a look and I believe that shot is literally meant to be the camera looking through the screen window of the tent. You can see the same effect about a minute earlier when the camera first dollies to the left to follow Hickenlooper as she walks from where the kids are sitting to look into the tent. In the second scene (at the time index you mentioned), you don't see the screen effect appear until the camera pulls focus as Hickenlooper walks closer to the camera and thus brings the screen into partial focus.

I saw Megalopolis a couple of days ago. It’s a very weird movie. Sometimes obvious and on the nose, and the rest of the time completely incomprehensible. But I’m still thinking about it, and everyone acts their hearts out.

I saw Deadpool & Wolverine in a movie theater. Great movie. I really enjoyed it in the theater. However, I missed some jokes. Some audience members in the theater were laughing at some jokes which I didn't understand, since there's some old pre-MCU Marvel movies that I hadn't seen before (such as Blade, Electra, Logan, the last 2 X-Men movies). So, I need to brush up on these old movies, and then I'll purchase Deadpool & Wolverine from Kaleidescape to re-watch.

Perfect weekend flick; high octane action thriller with gorgeous locales (shot predominantly in Hungary) and some over the top gore. Lighter moments are quite hilarious and does well to break the monotony. The visuals are stunning. Can easily recommend.

Speaking of Deadpool and Wolverine, I had watched it a few days ago. I had recently completed a massive marathon of mcu/X-men titles (in chronological order), even watched new mutants..😫, so this tied in perfectly. I really enjoyed watching this in the comforts of my cinema room (ls12000/ 142” screen). I seldom go to the theater these days (post pandemic), since humans have been supplanted by wandering Neanderthals.

Back on topic, I really enjoyed this movie and the comedic moments were simply hilarious. The video (4k/ HDR) is stunning and the atmos track is absolutely bombastic with some generous dose of foundation shaking LFE, which is a pleasant surprise from the mouse house.

I might be in the minority here, but Ryan Reynolds stole the show and at times even overshadowed the more accomplished/ illustrious Hugh Jackman. I can’t see another actor playing the role of Deadpool as well as Ryan Reynolds. This is tailor made for his personality. By far one of the best superhero films in recent times. Can’t wait for an encore.

I had this pre-ordered and finally watched this last night. This is a fantastic movie. James McAvoy is incredible in this type of roll!

Revisited this last night. First up, this is a fantastic (highly underrated) film. One of my favorite vampire themed flicks. Great PQ and even better atmos track. This is one of the few atmos mixes which feeds the wides as well. Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe are quite stellar.

Watched this moving film from Shoplifters director. Told in a Rashomon style.

I might be in the minority here, but I think I had more fun with the sequel. I watched them back2back on consecutive days. The original is a classic but feels a bit dated imho. I love both, but the new version just feels like a total package. Great audio and video as well.

I have not watched yet, doing the old one tomorrow, then the new one. I was a little nervous of the price tag of the new one, but have seen some reviews that it’s pretty much reference level. Not to mention one trip to the theatre and I have spent that cash.
