Last movie watched

I watched Spirited Away with my daughter last night. She wanted to do a double feature with Grave of the Fireflies but I don't have that one yet and it isn't in the Kaleidescape store. At any rate, Spirited Away was pretty good.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. The original was funny with inventive visuals, but the sequel was terrible. The movie looked and sounded good, but the acting was bad and plot was pretty dumb. A real disappointment from Tim Burton.👎👎👎

If you're a fan of indie horror, highly recommend this title just added to K.

Thrilled to see it available in 4K SDR (currently not available on disc).

I’ve been really surprised by two movies that had a lot of buzz coming to 4K that I had never seen. The Hitcher and The Searchers. Totally different films, but both truly excellent with surprisingly good PQ. Both are disc-only for the 4K versions, but hopefully will come to K. I’m just generally loving the 4K remastering wave, giving all these catalog films a second chance with a new audience, or perhaps with the same audience, just whose sensibilities are now in a better place to appreciate the films this time around.

I am not a fan of indie horror and got it to watch with my daughter. We both found it to be really, really good.

Watched The Outrun tonight. Looks and sounds great for a new HD release. Doesn’t break any new ground in the addiction/recovery genre but Saoirse Ronan is excellent in the lead role.

Not everyone's cup of tea but we just watched "Tolkien." Looked and sounded very good; HDR10 & DTS-HD Master 5.1.(y)

Funny thing... I've had that movie owned and on my Kaleidescape for many years but somehow it hasn't made it to the top of my queue to actually watch. Now I'm going to have to prioritize it. 👍

Funny you say that Josh. I’m glad I’m not the only one. I have the same issue with many movies. PS Wind River is great.

Not available on K but Billy Bob Thornton’s Slingblade is a great film.

Watched extended cut of Nosferatu last night. Looks and sounds great on K. The extended cut only extends two scenes by a total of 4 minutes. Great film if you like gothic horror.

Thanks for the review. This one’s on my wish list so I’ll watch it soon.🙂

I watched The Castle last night having imported it into my Premiere system earlier in the day. To my frustration, yet again, no video bookmarks. Almost no DVD or BR videos I buy here in the Australian market have VBM. So, yet again, I find myself having to make a loan appointment and send my content to the movieguide team for VBM. That is expensive, I have to pay for the shipping (usually about AU$100), and then US$10 per processed disc. All up the cost to get this work done is more expensive than buying the movie, and more expensive than what I would pay for a downloaded copy from the K-store. If I could buy it, but I can't. My $10 movie ends up costing me $30+ after it's been processed into the movieguide database.
Quite obviously Kaleidescape has lost interest in giving its Australian customers access to the Kaleidescape store. It's about time Kaleidescape offered the free VBM service again to those customers in markets not supported by the Kaleidescape store.

Agreed on Juror #2, Conclave, and Nosferatu. I'll add The Brutalist and A Complete Unknown, great films.

Surprises for me: Companion was actually good, and Emilia Perez was just off for me. Can't recommend.

If you haven't seen a Takashi Miike film, I definitely recommend checking one out.

I've previously seen 13 Assassins and got a chance to watch Blade of the Immortal this weekend. Yes, the films are subtitled, but the cinematography is fantastic and the timing of the black and white shots really tie in with the story. I really enjoyed both films if anyone is looking for a good samurai/martial arts flic.
