HD content conversion updates

One final time.

I responded to the posts made in the order that they were made, engaging in a polite and respectful manner with each.

I was grateful for both contributions, fully aware that the first was from a customer with significantly more experience with Kaleidescape than I, and the second from a Kaleidescape employee.

You viewed that as so "off the mark" that you felt it necessary to remonstrate me, pointing me to a post to which I had already responded.

I didn't take any offence to your response, nor do I feel insulted, so no need for an apology on that front.

Still no answer on the Mahler, but you know what I'm going to do? I'm just going to buy the set right now, and if none of them work, I'll take it up with Kaleidescape directly, rather than trouble people here with it ever again.

That's a very understandable wish, but it's not the sort of thing that we can really do. Subject to the terms of our agreements with the content licensors, we owe them for content that we sell. If we were to issue a refund months later as you propose, we would have already paid for that content, and would not get that money back.

This is why we provided all of the user interface elements to alert Strato V owners to content that is not currently compatible with their players -- we don't want people to inadvertently buy something that they can't play.

I do understand that the sale pricing throws a wrench into things by introducing a time-limited offer, and that's frankly unfortunate timing. In most cases, licensors decide that they want to promote certain content with a temporary price reduction, and that timing is out of our control.

I have not received an answer back from the team yet on the anticipated timing for conversion of the South Park seasons (this is a holiday weekend in both the US and Canada so response times will be a bit slower). I do see from our internal status report that the conversion tools have processed a number of the seasons now (although not yet all of them). The converted seasons will still need to be checked to ensure that everything looks good, so this is at best a preliminary indication.

In general if a number of seasons of a show, Mad Men for example, have been converted will the remainder of the seasons most likely be converted?
 
Hi Dave,

The intention is to convert everything.

As I mentioned on another thread, in order to convert as much content as we can as quickly as we can, we're adding capabilities to the conversion tools progressively. Each revision of the tools can handle more of the content variations, so we can convert an additional tranche of titles.

With series, what we've seen is that the original source files sometimes differ from season to season, and so that's what has caused the situation where some seasons have been converted while others have not yet been converted -- an earlier revision of the tools could handle some of the seasons, while the others had characteristics that required features planned for later tool revisions.

I believe the latest tools revision is expected to convert nearly all of the remaining titles, but every revision has had a certain (small) percentage that don't convert properly, and then we have to understand why and adjust the tools to address whatever the issue was.

Well I can personally confirm that we are still waiting on 14 series of South Park and 7 Mahler symphonies ;)

But I'm cool with that. I have a lot of trust in the kind folk at Kaleidescape, and know they will delivered one day!

I mean, my own personal collection has been pretty stagnant around 50% complete since December. I think I've moved from 52% complete to 52.5% complete in the last four months. Very few concerts. All movies and some TV series (ST:TNG). I still have hundreds of titles to go...
 
43 last week, 31 this week. Sounds like a lot of progress, but I don't know if that is from a pool of 500 titles or 5,000 that still need to be converted. My collection was 41.43% back Dec. 19th with 174 titles remaining. That went to 77.43% by the end of December, with 137 titles remaining. Since then, I see little progress on my collection as well. Now as 77.87% complete with 135 titles remaining to convert. I have 47 titles that I could upgrade to 4k but 72 SD only and 16 not available.
 
Hey folks. You may want to start keeping an eye on your available updates. With the new version of kOS fully deployed, we've started releasing the updates that depended on the new media engine features, so we expect a large number of updates over the next week.
 
87 titles left for me now. Still crossing fingers for Studio Ghibli.
