HD content conversion updates

I have 975 HD updates for the V and was wondering whether each update is equivalent to a new download of the movie or whether the update just overlays the existing download with the necessary changes, in which case the update would be much faster.

Since I have been using the V in standalone mode while I use a C with my Terra servers, I have not yet updated any HD titles. But, I'm trying to gauge how long it would take to update nearly 1,000 titles if and when I add Terra server(s) to the V. I assume (and fear) that the DV updates are equivalent to a new download.

If you like extras and different versions of movies, I recommend updating them one at a time. I noticed the longer versions of some movies missing, Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection that I recall right now.

Also I noticed that some movies changed aspect ratio (example Body of Lies) and some movies loses subtitles (example Valentines Day).

I have updated 611 movies and have another 144 to go. It usually ends up with about 90 movies that loses some of the above. The way I do it is to check on my TV what's in the downloaded version and look on the movie page in the store what's included in the new download. I double check extras, versions, aspect Ratio and subtitles.

Thanks for the advice. That sounds like a very arduous and time-consuming process, particularly when we both have so many HD titles for conversion.

True, but this is the only way to do it to avoid data loss in the short term. K claims that they'll restore all Extras (in HD) and Alternate Cuts, but we really don't know. I currently have 159 updates I won't download due to (temporary?) loss. The most concerning are where alternate cuts of the film have been removed. (There has been a permanent removal already, Bad Santa, mentioned elsewhere on the forum.)

For my own collection, this has happened to these films so far:

Alien vs. Predator
Bad Santa (Permanent, confirmed)
Green Lantern
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
That Thing You Do!

For many of these, the titles are still in active licensing. However, Green Lantern's two cuts are currently sold separately on other digital stores. And, given that the listing is for Green Lantern: Extended Cut, I imagine it's possible that we don't see a return of the theatrical cut.

I hesitate to ask, but what size is your collection?? :)

Probably a lot of more obscure titles and/or concerts. I was at 77.xx% since December, but in the last 2 weeks, that has moved to 89.34%.

Not too big, since we're only talking HD. :)

For the percentage that I'm tracking, I actually limited it to "Movies I Care About." This means if there's an HD title that's already in 4K, I generally don't count it. If there's an HD title that has since been released on 4K UHD Blu-ray, then I don't count it. If it's in 4K but the HD version is the only source of an Alternate Cut or Extras, I *do* count it.

All of that takes me to a scant 398 HD titles that I'm tracking (<25% of total K Collection?). Nearly no concerts, very few "obscure" (IMHO). So far, 282 have been converted. Of those, I won't update 161 of them (yet) due to loss/downgrade of Alternate Cuts and/or Extras.

The largest outstanding chunks are for Studio Ghibli and Star Trek: TNG. If I had to identify the most obscure, I'd probably say it's between "Repo! The Genetic Opera" and "Gay Purr-ee". Everything else is pretty straightforward stuff like Big, Little Shop of Horrors, Knives Out, etc.
