HD content conversion updates

I only started tracking my progress since Dec 19th since I have a Co-Star system and that avoids the compatibility issue but I wanted to see how it would have been had I not kept my Premier system.

Back in Dec, I was 435 of 609 compatible, with 60 in 4k upgrade available, 98 in SD only and 16 not available at all. My last incompatible purchase was Dec 29th (Spirited Away). After that purchase, I was 470 of 608 compatible. I had upgraded some to 4k, so I was at 47 4k upgrade available, 75 SD only and 16 not available. Since then, here on March 3rd I am 468 of 606 compatible with 47 available for 4k, 75 SD only and 16 not available.

I asked out of curiosity on Jan 27th how many titles remained that need to be converted but have not heard a number. I am at 77.2% of my collection compatible with another 7.8% that is available for 4k upgrade, so that still would only be 85% of my collection.

Oddly, when I move from "All My Movies" to "Strato V (paired system)" the number jumps up. It changes from "purchases" to downloaded HD titles and I think a lot are just older versions as 539 of them have HD updates to download. No need since they would go to a premier server that doesn't need the updates, but have virtually the same critical numbers of 76 available in SD only and 16 not available (one of which is a Cinema One demo loop, which is pointless to update). Using this larger number of titles, I am still at 87.2% so there is a lot missing.

If my sample is a fair one, is it really as much as 13% or so of the entire Kaleidescsape store that still has compatibility issues? It would make sense why updates seem so much slower now as they get into titles that have a lower ownership percentage than the more popular titles so most updates would not be titles I own.

Good analysis. I am at 15.5% incompatible. Perhaps my overall percentage is slightly higher because 40% of the incompatible HD titles are concerts, which I miss the most!
 
Yes, an inordinately large percentage of concert videos are shot with interlaced 1080p video. It makes sense - the cameras are far cheaper than 1080p cameras and they often have multiple around the venue to get various angles. Also, a lot of concerts were recorded in HD when HD was relatively new and there were limited acceptable camera options that could shoot in the lighting conditions of concerts. There were far fewer concert videos shot in film back before the video camera era, so we don't have a lot of good older concerts like Stop Making Sense.

Those concert videos probably don't have a nice master file to work with either and were probably shot near the bit rate of the finished distributed video as they were often limited to the bit rate of DV tape.
 
Among my unconverted titles, I still have some Planet of the Apes and the Studio Ghibli entries. I really hope those are possible. Just over 100 titles still to go for me.
 
I don't think any Studio Ghibli titles have been converted.

I am wondering how many studios these were from? If they were concentrated in one studio for the concerts, it would lend credence to the idea that a lot of this is from waiting for new master files from the studio...

For @J.Green or anyone who's downloaded the converted HD files...for these concert film conversions, are files that were previously 1080i now 1080p? Curious, as a Strato C owner, if they've been converted and should I delete and redownload or stay with what I have.

They are likely titles that were available on the store but have gone out of their availability window. We still needed to convert them so that people who had purchased them when they were available are able to download a version playable on their Strato V.

However, if you don't already own the title you won't be able to purchase it now unless the studio makes it available for sale again.
