Movie Updates

I was one who got in on the Minority Report 4K false alarm. Just got a notice for an update, though still no HDR or DV available. I think I'll wait until I have a chance to spot check the version currently on my system then I'll update it and see if they're the same or if there are improvements.

Interestingly, when I view in the store without logging in, it still shows only HD available.

Well, I must've looked at this just before it was added, now if I sign out and look, at least DV is available. But no HDR10.

Why is the price not $4.92 since it would be a D2D from Paramount? It's showing the price of $15.38.

Two recent movies now with no 4K HDR option, only Dolby Vision and SDR. Definitely concerning. Sure you'd get HDR10 playback from a V or E but both of those players have underlying quality issues for playback and specifically ones that are related to DV to HDR10 conversion. Really hope this isn't a sign of things to come with K's HDR offerings.

What are the quality issues with these players? I’ve been downloading the DV version and letting my Strato V convert to HDR based on what K has reported here about the DV to HDR conversion process.

Maybe this is the new upgrade price for Paramount? I think I recall upgrading Catch me If You can recently for $4.92. I know WB and Universal keep high d2d prices for premium new release offerings. But I've yet to see this happen on a catalog title.

Maybe it's temporary? I'm actually surprised that K has it in 4K because most streaming retailers don't, except for F@H. I'm guessing that once it's available on all streaming sites, then it should go down in price on the K store.

If they have the assets to make a DV encode they can also pull an HDR encode, so I would think this is just a matter of time. But, in the past this has been addressed fairly quickly. Hopefully that happens here too. I'm most curious to hear people's feedback on the quality of the new release as there was much criticism of the prior one.

Bear in mind I was one of the "early adopters" of this title in 4K and have yet to watch it. So, grain of salt and all. ;)

I have the original as well (4K SDR) and thought it looked fine for the type of movie it is (artistic intention). This one has always had a very grainy, soft and at times clipped look to it so I didn't expect it to knock my socks off. Haven't looked at the update, just disappointed to see DV only like we did with Barry Lyndon.

Hmm, interesting. It says "Added Extras" as an update on the 4K HDR version. Except that there's only a single Extra that's been on the title since its release date, and it's the HD version of the Extended Cut. Every other digital store later updated this to 4K HDR, but K has been stuck with the HD version. Maybe this update isn't fully live? Or, more likely, there's a mistake with the update's meta data.

The extended cut is AWFUL. My wife and I are big fans of this movie and were excited to see the extended cut but it completely kills the movie for us. Literally feel like you could use this for a class on how editing can take a great movie and make it really bad.

And I would be interested in this class... in 4K HDR like every other digital store. :)

Not a hill I'll die on, but something that should still be on K. Huh... I was just typing up a statement about Nosferatu's Extended Cut being in SDR only while other stores had HDR/DV. I double-checked on the K Store to confirm and what do you know? Nosferatu's Extended Cut was updated to HDR at some point. I still have the SDR version downloaded on my Terra.

So, K did update a previously limited extended cut. Now they need to update the terrible Fall Guy cut. :)

(I also had to go look at Leon The Professional and of course the Extended Cut is still SDR only.)

Are "Nosferatu" and "Leon the Professional" cuts available on K the extended versions? The run-time shown on the movie page are the theatrical cuts run times.

On "Fall Guy," I only watched the extended cut of the movie and thought it was dull. I wonder if the theatrical cut loses all the tedious and overlong sequences...

Both titles include the Extended Cut as a second feature (not Extra). You can click on the Show Features link on their listing to see. Since it’s a single “title” I think the two cuts have to share metadata so it would make sense that it shows theatrical cut attributes.

So am I better off downloading the DV or the SDR version of Minority Report? My wife wants to watch it tonight. Strato E to JVC projector. Thanks

If I only saw the extended cut I would have never watched the movie again.
