It’s interesting that the Mission Impossible Final Reckoning aspect ratio is 1:85:1? It should be 2:39:1 with shifting ratios of 1:90:1 IMAX scenes? I guess we will see what we get when the official release comes out tomorrow.

If it works like other VAR movies, KScape treats them as a single aspect ratio, which is the tallest, not the widest. Hence the 1.85:1. This is okay for me personally, as I use the madVR Envy to scale content for use with my scope screen.

But the problem it does create is that subtitles for the 2.39:1 scenes occur in the same space as they are for the 1.85:1 scenes, so are in the black bar area. The KScape feature to automatically keep subtitles within the content area does not get implemented in this scenario, which is unfortunate. The Envy can be used to allow these subtitles to be seen, but it does scale the image smaller for them to be seen.

There is an upcoming feature (Dynamic Subtitle Overlay) which will fix this, but until then, this is a bit of a hassle.

I think it will have both aspect ratio's. Top Gun Maverick indicates 1.85 on the K-scape info, but it is 2.35 and 1.85 for IMAX scenes. Since Mission Impossible Final Reckoning and Top Gun Maverick are both Paramount and Tom Cruise movies, I'd be surprised if this isn't the case.

I didn’t know it still had IMAX scenes, I was surprised when I watch Dead Reckoning that there weren’t any IMAX shots so assumed this one wouldn’t either.

I just checked. Mission Impossible Final Reckoning is in 2.35 aspect ratio AND 1.85 for IMAX scenes.

Sorry, to clarify...

The 2.35:1 and 1.9:1 scenes are constant width, yes? So if I had a scope screen, the top and bottom of the IMAX scenes would spill over the screen borders?

@Techthusiasm - all very pertinent to your most recent video podcast...

Ask him what the safe zone markers in his monitor were set to.
Already discussed in great detail, but not for sharing.

On an adjacent topic though, go take a look at the bike jump scene in the trailer for MI7, and compare to the movie...
