Like Truman Show. It’s 4k in the store, but not the new 4k remaster.I think Dark Crystal and Labyrinth were available until Shout! licensed the rights, I do have Labyrinth 4k on K that I bought before it was removed.

Correct. The Dark Crystal was available in 4K HDR and Labyrinth was limited to 4K SDR on K. When they were licensed by Shout they were taken off the market for a number of weeks before being returned to digital stores in 4K Dolby Vision in early February 2024. They were released on 4K UHD Blu-ray in November 2024. With items like this from boutique studios, I have to wonder if the person at K responsible for acquiring titles is as informed about such re-releases as the people who closely following this stuff. I'm not saying that the person or persons isn't as knowledgeable.Correct. The Dark Crystal was available in 4K HDR and Labyrinth was limited to 4K SDR on K. Digital rights still appear to be with Universal, which means Shout! likely owns the 4K for now, For what it’s worth, this once has been called out of one of the most disappointing 4K updates of 2024.Far and Away (NBCUniversal) is in the K store in HD only. Shout! Factory released a 4k collectors edition on Dec. 17th. Any chance we’ll see a 4k update in the K store any time soon?
It looks like Tootsie and A Man for All Seasons come off the list, but I forgot Stir of Echoes (Lionsgate) from December so we’re net -1.
I've been trying to figure this one out for a bit, and I think I got it... The K content team, so focused on the theatrical experience, don't have a calendar hanging on the wall. Months? Seasons? Holidays? "What do you mean by 'topical' releases?"It's Black History Month. Now would be a good time to get Roots in HD
This isn't available to digital stores. Lionsgate has the digital rights to HD while the 4K UHD Blu-ray is published in the US by Shout Factory.I’d still like to see The Fog 1980. It has been available on 4K Blu-Ray for over 2 years.
Another vote/request for both FB and LoA - I'm new to KScape, and would have assumed that given how it positions itself as providing the best picture and audio quality, to have major titles like these only in SDR, while they're available in HDR on disc, came as a big surprise.Ferris Bueller and Lawrence Of Arabia need HDR upgrades. Of course there’s that Star Trek Director’s Edition which is spectacular but not on the store.
We all dream of a world where every offering in the K Store represents the best assets available to K. These are the various shortcomings:I'm new to KScape, and would have assumed that given how it positions itself as providing the best picture and audio quality, to have major titles like these only in SDR, while they're available in HDR on disc, came as a big surprise.
Honestly? No. I wish it wasn't so, but this item is particularly bothersome to me so I've been tracking it for a couple of years. In that time, maybe 2 times have dropped off the list while dozens and dozens have been added.Any realistic expectation that these will be updated to HDR??
That's interesting. Not sure if that applies to commentary tracks as well. If so, there a whole lot missing that I would love to see added to titles. To my knowledge there's no additional licensing fee with audio tracks, so it's just a matter of K needing to pursue the correct/additional tracks with the studio.
I thought a lot of that was that there just isn’t a loseless audio track asset being made available on digital platforms by the studios? We all dream of a world where every offering in the K Store represents the best assets available to K. These are the various shortcomings:
1. 4K titles missing Dolby Vision.
2. 4K titles missing HDR.
3. 4K upgrades missing.

5. Immersive/Alternate audio tracks missing.
The first item is brand new with the Strato V & M, and hopefully an injection of new customers lets K pick up the pace. (Even if they were dropping 5 updates a week, in 2030 they'd be caught up to iTunes/Vudu of 2025.)
Items 2-4 are based upon resources. Time and money. K makes decisions, and I hate it. I'm firmly in the "If you're not going to get the best assets, don't bother getting the title" camp, but I know others feel otherwise.
The last item is the only one we really see movement on. To my knowledge there's no additional licensing fee with audio tracks, so it's just a matter of K needing to pursue the correct/additional tracks with the studio. Now, there's plenty of times that discs have better audio than digital, but that's not a K thing.

The single new-ish possibility is that these films get lined up for a DV update, and during that process K also produces HDR versions.
Fingers crossed.
This is correct. Other users have tracked the Atmos issue and provided lists to K, and we've seen (some) new tracks added. I'm sure there's still some out there that are missing, but hopefully K is working on them. As you point out, it's difficult to determine where an Atmos track is missing and where K passed on it because it was lossy.I thought a lot of that was that there just isn’t a loseless audio track asset being made available on digital platforms by the studios?
I would imagine commentary tracks are considered part of the Extras package, which I imagine could have an additional licensing fee. However, when I mentioned alternate I was thinking things like alternate languages and stereo/mono (if available to digital). For example, Studio Ghibli's latest on K is missing the Japanese track. I'm assuming that was a mistake and not part of cost cutting for K.That's interesting. Not sure if that applies to commentary tracks as well. If so, there a whole lot missing that I would love to see added to titles.
For a majority of movies, I prefer DTS-X over the Atmos track. I'm new to Kscape since November, so I'm keeping my DTS-X discs. Also, if Kscape wants to be the premier platform, they should also offer 3D movie titles. Many movies that have a 3D theatrical release, have 3D disc release in Japan. This is a niche that Kscape can dominate. I have over 200 discs that are 3D so I'm keeping those as well. Since I've been in the Kscape community, I've been underwhelmed that there are so many HD titles which are missing the 4K version. If they can release HD content in the K store, they can release 3D content.I thought a lot of that was that there just isn’t a loseless audio track asset being made available on digital platforms by the studios?
There’s not really anyway to verify that though since the lossy Atmos mix is completely different but certainly I’ve noticed a lot of the missing DTS-X tracks are missing on K compared to disc but do have lossy Atmos mixes (as DTS doesn’t have a lossy object based track), so not beyond the realm of possibility.
Or you have others like Pirates of the Caribbean which have no Atmos track on any digital platform but they are on disc.
I have to say, I find the lack of Atmos/DTS-X not to be a major concern for me. It would be nice to have the same ones as on disc as a minimum but standard 5.1/7.1 still sound incredible, especially compared to lossy Atmos. When I switch between films which do or don’t have Atmos most of them don’t really use it that well for me to even notice! For a majority of movies, I prefer DTS-X over the Atmos track. Actually, only the Marvel movies are released in 3D in Japan, they haven't had any other 3D releases in years. And, Marvel 3D has more to do with 4K buyers subsidizing 3D sales. Regardless, 3D sales are microscopic. K missed the boat here, but that boat has long since sailed. Also, if Kscape wants to be the premier platform, they should also offer 3D movie titles. Yeah, no one is going to spend new dollars investing in 15-year old tech at this point. I'm anxious to see JVC's next high-end refresh, but at this point expect them to be 2D only.I don’t think 3D is possible for K, the chips they use don’t support it and all the new Amlogic chips that everyone else uses also don’t support 3d anymore. Only apple have anything new which can because they make their own chips and can do whatever they want so I think we have to accept 3D may be gone from all new projectors next round too as they’ve all stopped it on their lower end models now.
It’s a shame really because now HDR has hit off we actually have TVs and projectors bright enough to really do 3D justice!Actually, only the Marvel movies are released in 3D in Japan, they haven't had any other 3D releases in years.
