Last movie watched

We watched Longlegs last night. I loved the story and the script, the acting was mostly solid, but the color grade and audio mix were annoyingly inadequate. Not a fan, unless they were purposely going for 'dull'.

At least we bought a NEON title at release to give them a bit of confirmation that they've made the right decision.

Got a chance to revisit Fantastic Four (4k/HDR). I was pleasantly surprised to find this on the K store. I have the 4k disc as well, which is now out of print. Doesn’t include the awesome 7.1 mix found on the disc, but the 5.1 track is no slouch either and punches above its weight class. Recommended.

Gotcha Edgar elluded in his post about HDR and Atmos being added later so I assumed it wasn’t available at the time he purchased/viewed it
Sorry about my vagueness there. It was Atmos SDR when I watched it. The disc is apprently HDR, which may be worth the color improvement for me. But I need to work up the nerve to see it a second time. It had a level of tension I didn’t expect since they threw out the rule book.

We watched Quiet place Day one. It is good but we felt like similar to 1 &2 . It is not really showing how/what happened, but just showing creatures attacking similar to 1&2. We expected Prequel to focus on how they get started.
I totally agree with you. I saw it in the theater, it’s like a 1.5, that is neither prequel or new contextual information as implied in the marketing. I’m therefore not going to buy the home video version.

I understand where you guys are coming from; and I can appreciate that perspective. However with that being said, this is a terrific home theater experience. The atmos track is quite underrated, as most seem to be comparing this to the more illustrious predecessors which had reference tracks.

But this imho is right there with those two and there are certain sequences which I feel even manages to surpass them. I actually came away liking the movie as well. It is also pertinent to add that I missed watching this in the theater, so I snagged this up day one (no pun intended).

Maybe a rental would offer another HT perspective.

Hah! I had written and deleted that I saw in in the theater day one, no pun intended! I also agree with you, it’s quite a good movie. I wrote and deleted that too. I was just annoyed about the wasted theatrical slot to expand the story as opposed to another facet of the story. Kind of like Prey or Alien Romulus. At least Prey I could enjoy as is for not wasting a theatrical slot.

I do like the first Quiet Place film for Atmos reference.

Got a chance to watch longlegs. Imho, this is a poor man’s Silence of the lambs, but it doesn’t disappoint. This is a crisp 4k transfer with a slightly muted color palette, but blends in seamlessly with the movie’s theme.

There is some good amount of LfE throughout the film, including a couple of foundation shaking moments. This is a robust 5.1 track, dialogue is crystal clear, even during some of the hectic sequences. Definitely recommend a watch.

Watche the first Austin Powers and it looked better than ever. Detail was as good as it gets for HD and the colors were more vivid than I remember on the Blu.

And now Austin Powers International Man of Mystery has been announced for 4K UHD Blu-ray. We all thank you for your sacrifice to the gods of "If you watch it, they will upgrade it."

Watched borderlands. I understand there are mixed reviews (majority of them unfavorable) but I quite enjoyed it, even though I don’t know anything about the game it’s based upon. Absolutely breathtaking PQ and fantastic atmos mix. Great HT experience.

Watched Planet of Apes last night. Overall a timeless classic. The apes kissing still makes me laugh out loud. It looks like a Star Trek episode and with Rod Serling at the keyboard feels very much like the Twilight Zone. I especially appreciate that the cover art is the original poster art, so I don’t have to redo it myself.

Got through Bond film #7, Diamonds Are Forever...kind of drags towards the end.

#6 On Her Majesty's Secret Service was much better. Maybe I'm just not a fan of Sean Connery as 007. I'll soon find out as this was his last title in the role.

There's only one real Bond, and that's Sean Connery!! 😂

Being serious, I think it's an "age" thing. My wife, being 24 years younger, thinks Roger Moore is the best Bond, my neighbor on my left thinks it's Pierce Brosnan (he's 5 years younger than my wife). My neighbor on my right is a former Indy 500 winner (Rahal), I think he's a Connery fan.

Hmm, I’m not sure. I grew up with Roger Moore’s Bond, but find him very creepy. His Bond hasn’t aged well. My wife grew up with Pierce Brosnan’s Bond, and my daughter with Daniel Craig’s Bond. All of us prefer Sean Connery’s Bond!

I grew up not watching Bond. I can’t remember when I saw my first Bond but ive seen them all. I prefer Connery’s portrayal, but Craig is a very close second and the Craig movies are just more enjoyable to me as a one-off viewing.

I think those who got initiated early with Bond like (Dr No) consider Sean Connery to be synonymous with Bond. Also something about his personality and old school attributes. Roger Moore is a close second. But, I feel every “Bond” had something unique to offer, with the exception of Timothy Dalton. Although over time I started liking “Living daylights” with each successive viewing.
