UI Improvements in the Movie Store

Help me understand this just a bit. There's a My Movies section in the store (both web and mobile) where you can view all the movies that you've purchased from the store. There are filter options available to show movies that aren't downloaded, movies that are downloaded to individual systems, or just all the movies. What's missing that you need?

It's true that this interface does not currently show movies that you own on disc. This is partially because if those movies aren't available for purchase, the store doesn't have any information about them. No synopses, no cover art, etc. We probably have that information in the guide database (assuming that you're seeing this on your onscreen display), but there's some separation between those two worlds for various reasons.
What I would like to see is all the movies I own when I turn on my K. Currently you can only see the movies that you have downloaded. The movies that have not been downloaded could have a simple flag. This way movies can be deleted and downloaded to the hard drive easily.

Will we be seeing the new updated 4k/Atmos version of Twister on Kaleidescape?
The disc drops on the 9th

You basically you want to see 'all' of your movies without having to use the filter option on the menu, which is the option Mike said is available.

This “filter” option is not available on the K operating system. When you’re scrolling through movies on the Strato C you’re only seeing movies that have been downloaded to the hard drive. It would be nice to see all movies purchased.

What Mike is referring to is seeing all movies in the My Movies section in the store. What leo9000 (and probably many others) would like to see is all their movies in the main Kaleidescape view. Currently you can only see the movies that are downloaded. It would be nice to browse/search all your movies and then Download if necessary right from the menu.

Ahh I see what you're saying.

I’d just like parity across all the places to view our library, including collections, titles not downloaded, whether you’re on your home network or away, if you’re on a phone, laptop, tablet or your Strato player, etc.

Too many options that are device and location dependent.

Hi folks,

This discussion is becoming a bit chaotic. Let's do a little reset here. I was asking specifically for clarification from @Vodder regarding his feedback.

The request to be able to see all owned movies, including non-downloaded movies, in the OSD is definitely one that we understand. To set expectations a bit, this is a very large project. The software on your system that drives what's shown in the onscreen display is built on top of a database that is populated with what is currently on your system. To display additional movies that are not on your system, integrated in with the rest of your library, is of course possible, but it would require a substantial re-write of core functionality on the system.

I'm not saying that it won't happen, but please understand that this is not like a simple thing that somebody could bang out in a few weeks of work.

Understood, but it is also a key missing feature that is commonly requested on the site. It makes owning a smaller terra system a pain if you have a large collection. Admittedly the solution is to buy more storage, but as one moves towards SSD servers for speed that becomes extremely cost prohibitive.

In my experience, the best solution to see all movies (downloaded or not) is currently a good sized iPad or M-Mac using a web browser.

Not ideal, but if you also have an AppleTV, you can also cast that screen to your display (with control via the iPad (or iPhone.)

While it doesn't include "not downloaded" movies, casting Second Screen to your display also allows cover view for Collections (my #1 requested feature) - which allows you to show guests a selected sub-set of the movies you are offering for the showing.

One touch on the iPad opens the details. One more launches the movie, and you just switch to the K input. Not ideal, but easier than showing guests every available title (which in our case includes concerts, kids movies and many other titles that aren't under consideration.)

I noticed this week that all the HDR, UHD, and HD badges on movie covers in my system’s UI have gone. I spent part of the day deleting the badges from my custom covers, which are most of them. Luckily I could revert to earlier save in nearly all cases, and it was a chance to edit some covers and titles further. I actually like the outcome better. But it was more work.
