US Digital Releases for September & October 2026

No 4k Blu-ray release (US/ international) for Hope either; just a standard 1080 Blu-ray with atmos for $38…wtf? Will snag it during a sale on k.

Hope is only showing HD on iTunes as well, so definitely not a Kscape issue. Not sure why Neon is only doing HD on this, I was lucky enough to see it for the early showing in Dolby Cinema and enjoyed it.
I WAS THERE!!! 🤣

Good thing I'm used to importing from anywhere necessary 😤 I saw that it was HD on iTunes, so it's not a total surprise that Kaleidescape doesn't get UHD either, but it's still disappointing, and completely unnecessary.

PRE-ORDER

Man, they're charging an arm and a leg for the UHD Blu-ray outside North America :poop: This price is looking very good.

The KS file is something like 9 GB bigger than what fits on a BD50, so the 'Scape release would likely be the best one if a UHD BD never happens anywhere.
Did you pick it up? If not, I'm willing to take one for the team to evaluate the PQ.

I didn’t. I’m going to wait and see if there’s a UHD BD release in Germany, France, Italy or something. There definitely will be if I buy it now in HD on Kaleidescape ;)

Henry David Thoreau (2026) in SD from PBS

Is that really the only option, even when the original language track is Korean?

Initially I thought that my Colony UK UHD BD had only SDH subs, but it did have a real subtitle track on the disc, so that was nice. Three different sound tracks, too. (Atmos, DTS-HD MA, Stereo LPCM)

Where's BUDDY?

This is the first time I've noticed a new movie starting to stream on Apple and Amazon, but not Kaleidescape. I've only been using Kscape for a bit over a year though, so maybe this is more common than I realize.

Buddy might be dismissed as dumb teen horror/comedy, but once I realized it's a very cleverly concealed and intricate political allegory I really loved it. I found old interviews with the filmmakers talking about basing ideas on the writings of Italian anti-fascist philosopher Umberto Eco and whatnot; the film's philosophy is actually crazy deep. So I was sad last night to settle for the fairly blah, compressed, 4K SDR version on Apple instead of a pristine Kscape experience. Hope it's just delayed....

K doesn't like getting horror movies during the Halloween season. However, they usually do get new releases when it's from a major studio so right now I'd lean more towards delayed than absent (Paramount's Ice Cream Man is still missing). Also, it's worth noting that the other missing titles of the week are: The Blair Witch Project, The Devil's Rejects, Don't Move, House of 1000 Corpses, and Repo The Genetic Opera. See if you can find a theme. :)

Any chance we will get Ryan's Daughter (1970) in 4K from Warner Archive which released last week?

I grabbed Out of the Past on 4K disc last Month forgetting that some of the recent Warner Archive have come to K this year. I will skip the disc if we think this will get upgraded from the current SD release.

Warner Archive digital releases are completely erratic. They could show up at any time. Having said that, I think this title is barely trickling out on disc and has yet to even show up on Amazon. It didn't show up on other digital stores so I took it off the calendar.

I saw 'Hope' in a London theatre - digital 4K atmos etc - looked great, the only issue was some of the CGI was spotty and the clarity and sharpness of the picture made it worse; my theory is that Neon rolled out an HD version to somewhat blunt the criticisms of the CGI, an HD picture might help - at least until they can work on a directors cut or fix it (if they intend to at all).

I would wait for the time being.
