This was one of my most anticipated movies ever and it absolutely lived up to the hype in a packed theater for a noon showing on a Friday. The audience reactions were great with so much laughter along this rollercoaster ride. I can't stop thinking about little details of conversations or actions. I feel like I need to rewatch it ASAP. I can't wait for this to come out on Kaleidescape!!!

I feel like fans of Nathan Fielder's work will absolutely love it and even those that haven't been in that world yet will enjoy the film and then go back and watch his previous work.

This is a documentary right?

No, no. Was wondering as I find the 'subject' very interesting (y)
Yes, it does a good job covering the primary subject. But without giving spoilers, the subject of the film shifts several times and at the end I wasn't 100% sure what I had just seen...which is why I feel that I need a rewatch ASAP.

I do feel that before seeing the film it is helpful to watch some of Fielder's latest work as well as earlier TV Shows that covered the Theranos story.

Adding to this....it was neat to see and hear the MANY reactions from an opening day audience throughout this film. I may go back to the theater again in a few weeks when more casual viewers are experiencing it just to see how the experience is different.

I absolutely loved it as well (and I'm admittedly a huge Nathan Fielder fan).

I felt like the film had a lot to say on a variety of topics, all very interesting. I hope a lot of people see it and it gets the recognition it deserves.

I was at that "secret" Telluride screening of the movie that started all the buzz... we didn't know what the movie was going to be when we went in, but the security was super high (everyone had to lock up cellphones)... and to be honest, when we were seated and they announced what it was going to be i was a little disappointed. I felt like I had seen or read everything there is to say about Elizabeth Holmes.

But within 15 minutes of it starting, I knew we were in for something special. It's hard to describe everything Fielder and Oppenheim are doing with this movie, but it's WAY more than just an Elizabeth Holmes documentary. It's absolutely compelling for the full 3 hours and I'd have watched 3 more. It's hard to say more without giving important things away, but it's an epic movie whether or not you love documentaries or not, whether you care about Holmes/Theranos or not... and it's one where you'll talk about it, reinterpret it several times as you watch it and several MORE times as you reflect on it later. And be ready to argue with friends/family about what you think about the main subjects.

Nathan Fielder was there at the screening and gave a really interesting discussion about it that I hope will get to youtube or "extras" when it comes out on streaming or downloads/disc.

Anyway, as you can tell, I'm a fan of the movie and have rarely spent more time discussing the movie afterwards than I have for this. Our family members who were with me at the screening all have different takes, different conclusions, and many of us keep swapping our views about what we saw and what the conclusions might be regarding the protagonists..

These are the kinds of documentaries that I absolutely love. Hope Kscape offers it at some point.

I wrote to Kaleidescape on October 2nd to draw their attention to this title. Hopefully it will be in the K Store sooner rather than later. As it is an A24 title it would seem possible that it could happen. We’ll see…

Cheers,
Alan

Yes, the fact that it is A24 and doing so well commercially gives me hope that it may get the same treatment as some other A24 movies and we may actually get it earlier than disc and at a pretty reasonable price of $25 for the early release.

And my ultimate hope with the Kaleidescape release is that if Nathan Fielder does a commentary track for the disc, that we also get this commentary track on Kaleidescape.

That's incredible that you got to be there for that Telluride showing Josh! I can't imagine seeing it in a room full of people that had no idea what film they were about to see.

I know this isn't the Telluride discussion that you were hoping to get released eventually, but New York Film Festival just posted the 22 minute discussion with Fielder and Oppenheim on YouTube:

Just saw it with my wife. Incredible. Like you said Josh, we were talking about nonstop, like everyone else coming out of the theater. One non-content-spoiler surprise for me was how cinematic and mesmerizing it was in both framing and sound. Definitely hope it comes to K.

Let me know if this is a no-no but my thoughts on this movie can be found here...

Thanks for those thoughts! You didn't mention in them if you had watched other Nathan Fielder content prior to seeing this movie. I'm really curious to know how this movie plays to people that aren't already fans. Also curious to know if those same people are then interested enough to go back and watch The Rehearsal, Nathan for You, and The Curse.

I knew of Nathan Fielder but not super familiar with his work. Just a few clips here and there. I personally do like his awkwardness and one of my friends who also saw this film has started watching Nathan For You because of it.

But if you don't like his style then you may not enjoy this movie. I do find him a fitting director for this subject though. I don't say this to be humorous but it is like putting three different styles of neurodivergent people in a house together and seeing the results.

Thanks for that explanation! I would recommend that you watch both seasons of The Rehearsal. That is definitely a show that needs to be watched in full and in order. I think both seasons were incredible!
