Wish there was a newby thread

For completeness, we should note that older Alto units came with 4TB drives, so you might see this size if you come across an older unit. And of course we do now offer Alto without internal movie storage. That version is intended to be used as part of a larger system that includes storage elsewhere, as in a Terra server.

As far as new Alto units sold today with storage, Jim is 100% correct that there is a single 6TB configuration.

This may be considered a trivial question with all that is going on, but is there anyway to stop the covers from moving around when I highlight a particular movie?

I know when I am in the covers screen and I highlight a movie it moves movies most alike to the one I picked next to it. Is there any way to disable that movement. It drives me nuts. It moves the whole screen around and I would prefer it just not move.

The premiere line allows you to turn automatic shuffle off under the general settings of web interface. Vague recollection of there being talk of some trick to it (at least temporarily) without having to fully disable the function, but that may have been in a thread during the lost time.
Encore system... web interface might still be the ticket.

I have the Alto so I guess I am out of luck. But not 100% sure what you mean by web interface. When I click Menu on the Alto remote I can go to settings. No mention of shuffle.
On my store web interface I have account/ system but no mention of shuffle there either.
Am I looking in the right place?

The Alto does not have a way at this time to disable the shuffle mode. The list view is going to be your best manner for accessing content more directly (Or a control system with feedback that allows for search).

The web interface on the Alto will allow you to manage unrecognized content etc and can be accessed through my-kaleidescape (my-kaleidescape.local on a mac) or through the IP address of the Alto on your local network.

Hope that helps.

Kaleidescape systems have a local web interface that can be accessed by loading http://my-kaleidescape (http://my-kaleidescape.local) or http://<device IP>. On those pages, you can access more settings for each of the devices in your system (http://my-kaleidescape/components.

However, the option to turn off cover shuffling is only available on Premiere line systems. It is not available on Encore systems.

There is a kludgy workaround, however:

There's a little known control protocol command "ALPHABETIZE_COVER_ART" which will change the display of the Cover Art Place to alphabetical order instead of shuffled. The side effect of issuing that command is that from that point on, as you navigate the Covers place, the cover art will remain in alphabetical order and not shuffle.

Unfortunately, it only lasts for as long as you remain on the covers place. If you navigate to a different place (List, Collections, etc) and come back, the cover shuffling behaviour will return.

So if you have a control system (or are handy with scripting), you could connect to your player's IP on port 10000 and issue:

'01/1/ALPHABETIZE_COVER_ART:'

every time you switch to the Covers place and you wouldn't see cover shuffling any more.

Not quite the solution you're looking for but I figured I'd share it anyway.

Whew....thanks, I think.

Yes thank you. Getting 'Server Not Found' but I guess that is to be expected now.

When exactly are you getting "Server Not Found"? If you're trying to connect to your system's browser interface, that would have nothing to do with the current situation with the company.

Here's the simplest and most reliable way to get to your browser interface (in my opinion): turn on the TV and switch to your Kaleidescape player. Push the Menu button on the remote, and scroll over to the "System" tab. Choose "Status". Now, choose "System Summary".

At the bottom of the block of information you see, you'll see "Browser interface URL". Just type that into your browser exactly as shown.

With that said, as John has already noted, there's no setting there for disabling the cover shuffle. But, you may find the other tools and information useful.

I see it now under the system tab. I was looking at http://my-kaleidescape.local/

Great, glad you found it. That URL (.local) only really works on the Mac, so if you were trying it on a PC, it probably wouldn't have worked.

What happens when you enter the UPC code in the Edit Movie pop up screen? I would have thought that automatically the K system would search for the UPC and then populate the fields accordingly. The reason I ask is that I entered the UPCs on a 6 disc Anime series that should be as well known as other anime series the UPC search has worked on in the past but nothing has happened in almost a week. I wonder if a person was actually searching the web for the movie associated with the UPC? I can enter the data myself but unfortunately there is no cell for Aspect ratio so this will have to be handled outside of K should it be other 1.33 or 1.78.
Thanks,

Entering a UPC for unrecognised content does not automatically update the guide ball. It required a bunch of processes behind the scenes by our Media Guide team to put together all of the metadata and add it to the guide ball. At the moment, this is no longer happening.

Thanks John, that was my suspicion. I'll go ahead for now and update it with the art, and await Media Guide's Team speedy return. :)

Hey if you bump into Ed Gonzales tell him Max said he is awesome.

can you link a Cinema One(grandfathered) and an Alto together?

No, a cinema one (new version) can only be linked with a second cinema one. An old version cinema one can only be linked with a premier system.

Kevin D.

that's unfortunate; is it possible to transfer grandfather status from a 1u to an Alto?

I didn't think the Alto could import from disc at all, so there is no way to have it get grandfathered status.

another dream dashed! I guess I'll hang on the the DVD binder a bit longer
