I wonder if we’ll get the Popeye 4K? I see that AppleTV has it.

Dennis Hopper's "The Hot Spot" (Don Johnson, Virginia Madsen, Jennifer Connelly) is coming out very soon on 4K UHD Blu-ray (Radiance Films, UK) and for a quick second I thought we might be seeing a digital release. Alas, it looks like my pre-order for the disc will remain...Pre-Order
Hot Spot (2026) in DV/HDR/SDR/HD from NBCUniversal
Mrs. Doubtfire on K is 4K SDR. It's 4K HDR/Dolby Vision on other digital stores and will be on disc as well. Hopefully K upgrades.Well Dead Poets Society and The Rock just got announced for disc, with Mrs. Doubtfire. K already has the latter, but I hope/expect the first two to arrive on K. I might just resist buying the disc this time for them too.
Uh huh, no pre-order for Strange Days 4K planned?See, a man can change after all.
Yeah, VERY interesting. Universal is going "Day and Date" with digital and physical for The Odyssey. I'll be curious to see if we get different aspect ratios for the formats. I'm sure the scope folks are hoping so.And the Odyssey hits 4K disc on Nov. 17. How about an early K release?
Day and date will actually save me money. I normally will buy it digital for the early access, and then disc later.Yeah, VERY interesting. Isn't The Odyssey in a single aspect ratio for the entire film? Given that this will translate to 1.78:1 or 16:9 for home video, would there even be a difference between physical and digital with this title? That's what I'm curious to see, but we won't know until it drops digitally. But knowing Nolan, Disc is the way to go if you want the Imax aspect ratio. Scope will be exclusive to digital. But 4kC might be the difference maker.
It was actually three ratios: 2.35, 1.78 and 1.43 depending on the screen. I saw it on a Dolby Flat (1.78) screen and it was probably my favorite. I watched it at two Imax 70mm screens (Irvine and Ontario) and found the contrast problematic. I think the most common non PLF presentation was scope, 2.35.Isn't The Odyssey in a single aspect ratio for the entire film? It was technically shot all in one continuous aspect but he did different framing for different venues theatrically. I am not sure why, if the full open frame was his preferred vision, he could have shown it that way in every theater. Sure, but it wasn't VAR. It was framed differently for different screens but it never changed ratios at any of them, right? For Nolan's prior releases, he maintained VAR on disc while using scope for digital. Since there's no VAR to maintain, I'm not sure we can predict what we'll see.It was actually three ratios: 2.35, 1.78 and 1.43 depending on the screen. Traditionally, 4k digital has been scope. And disc had imax footage at 16x9.
But I'm hoping they do multiple ratios on different releases like Project Hail Mary.
Correct. It never changed ratios. I think it's been confirmed it will remain locked at 16x9 for the disc. Fans are complaining it isn't 1.43.Sure, but it wasn't VAR. Marketing is the correct answer. Hence the need to explain 5 different aspect ratios! It was technically shot all in one continuous aspect but he did different framing for different venues theatrically. Imagine that. More debate and complaining and FREE WORD OF MOUTH PROMOTION for a Nolan release.Correct. It never changed ratios. I think it's been confirmed it will remain locked at 16x9 for the disc. Fans are complaining it isn't 1.43.
I just hope digital also gets 16x9. Typically, they use the traditional non VAR 2.35.
Christopher Nolan? More like Christopher Trollin’!Imagine that. More debate and complaining and FREE WORD OF MOUTH PROMOTION for a Nolan release.
