Unboxing & First Look, Initial Impressions

I finally got mine yesterday, and had some time this afternoon to unbox.
I have NOT watched your video yet, so it's literally my first time seeing the remote etc.

First impressions: What a pile of crap! The setup process is horrible. I've been messing with it for over an hour and still can't make anything work. Utterly frustrating.
Their support page is no use at all.
After all that time, I managed to get WiFi to work and connect to the remote via the web browser, and run an update. I've had to do every step 2-3 times at least before it would work.

I'll queue up your video to see if I can learn anything and not throw this thing in a box with other useless electronics.

this is exactly why I did the videos.
 
So I have 2 Apple TVs, multiple K players, but it seems impossible to add a second device.
I used to have Harmony remotes, and although not easy, once you add a device, EVERYTHING would be there.
In the case of UC, nothing seems to get added. The thing looks great, but the software / firmware is not even suitable for the hobbyist (which is what Harmony really was).
I chucked it aside before I throw it through the wall.

I knew the setup would be daunting and thrillcat's videos are absolutely essential. What did I do? I set the remote aside for almost a week when it arrived. I looked at it. Watched some videos. Waited until I had some free time to start understanding and learning the remote. I added integrations before trying ANYTHING. Once you "learn" at a very basic level it all comes together fairly easily and the flexibility it offers is great. Need a few integrations working on the remote instead of HA and I will be really happy.

I have been using the Remote 3 for several months now. I get it. At this time, there is not a comprehensive setup guide from Unfolded Circle, which is needed for the casual user. My expectations were that it was going to be hard to setup. I invested hours in advance of receiving the device in learning how it operates and how to deal with the frustrations people were having (such as the initial WiFi setup). I even prepared a "protocol" for how I would setup the device. I made some changes to my router as soon as the remote arrived (e.g., anchored the remote to the nearest AP radio, set the radio on that AP to channel 10 (2.4 GHz), and reserved the IP addresses for the remote and the two docks).

The setup went smoother than my Harmony setup (Harmony support finally had to remote in and setup some of my devices). Several integrations (device integration) had just been developed for some of my devices (Trinnov, LG TV, Sony Blu-Ray) that required the open-source code developers to make some revisions, which were completed within 24 hours. I was amazed at the responsiveness of the integration developers that are doing this as a hobby. The Kaleidescape and Apple TV integrations were both ready to go at the time of setup. The first integration is confusing, but if you watch @thrillcat 's video, it's pretty straightforward.

Now, my entire media room is controlled over IP, which is much more responsive than IR (Harmony). I have had no problems with the WiFi. The Remote 3 has been rock solid. Admittedly, I have not tried to add a second Apple TV or multiple K-scape players. I suspect that process would be handled as just another integration (don't use the "Add a new device" button on the Home page).

You can ask about specific problems (like adding a second Apple TV) on the Unfolded Circle Discord channel (Discord - Group Chat That’s All Fun & Games), which is probably the best place to get support at this time.
 
Which Sony Blu-ray integration are you using. That’s the one device that is giving me trouble.

I've been using the AVA remote, but there is a StormAudio integration that is pretty solid. I think the AVA integration is disconnecting the UC integration, though. It worked great before I brought home the AVA. But the dev doesn't have a Storm so he hasn't published it yet, since it's hard for him to keep up support on a device he doesn't own.

Following up on this, I've been doing testing today. I powered down the AVA Cinema Remote and the StormAudio integration has been flawless on the UC Remote 3. Obviously something between the two is kicking the UC remote off, but if you're not running both simultaneously there's no issues.

Also, really a remarkable difference with the UCR3 in how responsive it is. Instantaneous, snappy. The AVA still requires a 1-2 second wake up for the screens to become active and everything to connect, whereas the R3 with this latest beta firmware is instantaneous.
 
Got the Globalcache and the Lumagen working.
I’m just using it to replace multiple remotes, haven’t set up any macros yet.
It’s still a bit flaky, one time the power button will do the tv, other times it won’t etc.
I wish you could have Trinnov volume active across all the integrations

That’s what activities are for.
 
Yep realise Activities is macros.
Can I set volume control to work across everything ?

Beta FW is much better, still loses sync randomly.
Lumagen input selector doesnt work, any ideas ?
