Tron: Legacy 4K ?

Just to expand on this, because I don't see it under the Premium and Pre-order section of the store (yet).

I did notice it on the Oct-Sept release date list found elsewhere on the forum.
We will see Tron and Tron Legacy on K on the 16th. Just like Tombstone, Master & Commander, Kingdom of Heaven, etc.

A few new notes as more info becomes known on the physical releases:
  • Tron Legacy will retain the VAR found on prior disc and digital releases.
  • Both Tron 4K and Tron Legacy 4K will be on 66GB discs.
TheDigitalBits claims info from inside sources that some of the de-aging in Tron Legacy has been updated. I'm not counting on that, but it'd be nice.
I saw that too. However, Ralph Potts in his review on AVSForum says he can’t see any difference on young Jeff Bridges.
So, now they want to shoot themselves in the other foot? I guess it will be more balanced, but undoes all the years of telling ourselves that appearance is supposed to be an artifact of that character being a digital copy.

At least they are family flicks, so that gives us a solid almost-20% chance of getting the extras.
This is one instance where altering an effect would be well received I think. That de-aging effect on Kevin Flynn as he says goodnight to his son in the real world looks so bad it takes you out of the film. It’s also creepy as hell, which has the opposite effect intended by the narrative. I hope this is improved and Ralph Potts is somehow mistaken.

As they're Disney releases, we should see them day and date on K like we did for Tombstone, Master & Commander, Kingdom of Heaven, etc.

Did I miss something with Kingdom of Heaven? I do not see this title at all. I'm almost sure I had the HD-edition set to "favourites" waiting for the 4K, but now I don't see the title at all in the movie store.

It's definitely in the Movie Store...extended 4k version for $14.99. It may not be available in Canada yet?

Still there as far as I’m aware:

That sucks. I was considering getting the insanely priced disc because I thought K was going to list it. Now I know it's actually available, I will hold out and not get the disc and wait for Canadian distribution.

I didn't think that there would be different titles available in the U.S. and Canadian market, as it's generally treated the same (there have been some exceptions like "Lionsgate Limited" discs don't ship to Canada.)

I wonder if Tron Legacy 4K on K will include the IMAX aspect ratio changes?
I expect it to. Both discs and digital did for prior distribution, and the new disc does. I don’t see why Disney would crop digital.

The real question is if we’ll see a new 3D version on Apple Vision Pro. :)

Don't be so sure. I believe there was an update to the HD version of Legacy a while back. I sampled it August 12th and the aspect ratio was scope/fixed and did not vary. Totally lessened the impact of multiple scenes vs the BD.

WOW! I had no idea this was the case. I've found a comment back in 2022 mentioning that K had the scope version of Tron Legacy, so this isn't a recent development. That's still so strange. I checked Apple (iTunes), Fandango (Vudu), Movies Anywhere, and Disney+ and VAR is present on every digital version I could find (including Vudu 3D). K appears to be the only one that has this film in scope.

So, yeah, I don't know what to predict right now. I would say that if K doesn't get the shifting aspect ratios then I'll buy the disc, but I'm already buying the disc... I'd just hate to actually have to watch it. :)

I’ll buy the 4K version for the Atmos but the 3D version will still be the main one I go back to!

I could get the 4K and mux it into the 3D like I’ve done with a few films but it’s a lot of effort and I can’t be bothered anymore 😂.

Exactly. "How have you owned a movie on K for years and not known its aspect ratio?" Um, because I only watch it in 3D. :)

I bought the disc just to make sure the VAR is present. I can always get the K version at a later time when on sale.

To be fair, scope screen people with a video processor won't care either way. We know how it was framed in camera. ;)
I think "scope screen people" may be my favorite group identity. Not saying I want to go beat up the squares out there, I think square is fair, I just think scope is dope. @thrillcat where's our baseball cap??

Just heard the new movie is a dud. Nonetheless, looking forward to Legacy on Tuesday.

Here you are !
