"The Abyss" in 4K

All right, now I have a reason to watch it again with the free Atmos upgrade!
Sounds WAY better now!

Does the SE have Atmos? I see HD has Atmos but not sure if that includes the SE version.
It does not. The Atmos track on HD is on the main feature. The Special Edition version that appears as an Extra is DTS-HD MA 5.1.

The UK 4K physical release for the Abyss is no longer coming and has been cancelled due to the rat scene 🤦‍♂️ -

Finally, we’ve learned from industry sources that the 4K Ultra HD release of James Cameron’s The Abyss (1989) in the UK has been cancelled, and for exactly the reason you think—the scene in which the rat is made to breath underwater. UK censors asked for the scene to be cut, Disney apparently wanted to comply, but Lightstorm vetoed it. So if you want this title in 4K and you live in the UK, you’ll have to import it from elsewhere.

Note: I deleted the "is coming" from the thread name......

The Abyss SE is now on iTunes in 4K so maybe we can get that one too...
That's good news. Hope we get it soon as well. Bought on K and want to show it to some friends who haven't seen the film. Was hoping I could show them the 4K remastered version.

I wish they included the special TV version in the extras even in SD resolution. There aren’t any additional scenes but it is open matte and the framing was supervised by Cameron. They technically call it the “Director’s Pan&Scan Edition”. Cameron did this for The Terminator, Terminator 2, The Abyss, True Lies and Titanic. All very different experiences with much more information above and below the matted frames.
