Strato V: UI resolution limited to 1080, not 4k!

These days we should be aware that some posts on social media have an agenda, or some financial interest it supporting a particular outcome. There will always be indirect marketing disguised as an "I love this...." post, sometimes from the developer, sometimes from a friend, supporter, or influencer. That said, there are also legit comments from people that tried and liked a product, and they just want to share their experience. We just need to be smart enough to determine which is which......

This is a waste of time. When K-scape goes under, don’t whine and complain about “why” it happened. This is why it happened. The product is essentially irrelevant and obsolete. And the customers propping them up are actually causing more harm than good.
If you want to be taken seriously perhaps talking about how you have a $1 million system as if that qualifies your opinion and then getting upset and insulting the KScape on an owners forum when people disagree is not the best way to go about.

The compression of audio on streaming platforms alone is so bad even ignoring the low bitrate that I don’t see how jitter is going to improve that to any point where the audio then becomes better than loseless.

As I said before I’m glad you have found something you like, I don’t know why you’d even bother with a Kscape if you think your ATV is better when everything is cheaper on it to purchase.

I know Lumagen say their units reduce jitter and improve audio (and video slightly), I have one for DTM but can say with 100% certainty it doesn’t suddenly make streaming audio better than loseless without the Lumagen on my previous inferior system.

I also took the time to read up on it and still not convinced, I read the thread over on the stereo forum where people are more into super expensive cables, tube amps etc. and they are more receptive to it but I just don’t believe it. There’s also a guy who mods all his stuff on the main UK forum which I enjoy reading their thread and seeing what mad science things they are up to but I still don’t believe it makes any kind of meaningful difference to anyone other than someone obsessively tinkering that knows everything like the back of their hand.

I’m always open to evidence of superiority like @FenceMan but I’ve not seen any, same reason I haven’t done the LLDV update on my Lumagen to run DV over HDR10 on my projector yet.

I've done the LLDV update and with KScape I've found Dolby Vision movies to look the same or worse than HDR10. I can't think of a single time where I found a superior viewing experience. I've intentionally stopped downloading the DV copy of the movies I have on my Strato V.

Have you tried DV download playing with LLDV off? Do you have a Lumagen or MadVR doing DTM?

While I do not have a Envy or Lumagen I have tried the LDDV trick using a HDFury with my JVC RS1100 and could not tell any difference...if anything some titles looked "worse" in that they were dimmer than the HDR10 version. I since removed the HDFury since last thing I need is more things in the HDMI chain which is already fragile as it is. I also no longer download DV copies to my V unless it happens to be the only version that has ATMOS.

I have a Lumagen doing the DTM. I have not downloaded the Dolby Vision version and then compared it to LLDV on vs. off on the Lumagen.

FWIW, I too was shocked to see that Strato V does not output the UI at 4K. I have a PJ and therefore currently have no interest in upgrading from my Strato S, but have mixed feelings about the day I potentially do and am forced to downgrade to a 1080p UI. Maybe its just perception, but I completely understand the disappoint of others, especially when much cheaper devices are doing it.

It was an unwise design choice. Charge another $500 for the unit, but keep that 4k UI! Totally worth it, in my opinion.

Yes 1080p UI is bumper but what I learned is that new kOS upcoming update will improve the V capabilities of upscaling 1080 UI to 4k.

I have now tried it with my Lumagen and it makes zero difference. My test material was Black Panther. Pulled down the DV copy and downloaded HDR10 and all was right in the world again. As I've said before, in my experience the quality is either the same or noticeably worse with the DV copy using LLDV with the Lumagen. It's never better than HDR10 so I can't imagine why I would ever use the DV copy.

I’ve just been letting the Strato V convert the DV to HDR10, only compared Monkey Man and they were identical so from a pure laziness perspective with the auto downloads always pulling DV I’ve just left it.

I do have DV MKV’s from my discs and a firestick too though so still looking out if there is any benefit to be had. I could do lots of testing but I’d rather just watch movies!

Aha, a prophet! Perhaps you should go into politics. I understand it is easy to predict as well.

Has anyone gotten the update which improves the UI?

Yes. I can say the UI looks better. They also added the ability to output the UI at 1080p when set to "use external scalar". Doing that and having my Envy upscale is a bit better still. I do feel the C UI at native 4K is still the best looking for a very large screen, but that should be expected as upscale cannot 100% equal native, in my experience. On a smaller screen or TV, I wouldn't sweat this difference any more.

Awesome thanks. I have never seen the 4k UI so any improvement will be great for me lol.

Is the Improvement just on the V Standalone interface or does this include the paired with the terra?

The UI rendering is a constant for a given player model, so wouldn't be impacted by stand-alone or grouped mode.
