The Strato V is Kaleidescape's latest movie player, designed to deliver high-quality 4K Dolby Vision playback with lossless audio decoding. It can function independently with its built in SSD storage or as part of a larger Kaleidescape system.

Key Features of Strato V:

4K Dolby Vision Playback: Provides high-definition viewing with enhanced color and contrast.

Lossless Audio Decode: Ensures high-fidelity sound for an immersive experience.

Standalone Storage: Stores about 10 reference 4K movies on an internal solid-state drive.

Streamlined Interface: Optimized for easy navigation of a small movie library.

Fast Downloads: Can download a 4K movie in as little as 10 minutes over gigabit Ethernet, even during playback.

Scalability: Multiple Strato V players can be grouped with Terra movie servers to meet larger installation needs.

Modern Design: Features new electronics and is encased in a sleek black anodized aluminum and glass chassis.

These features make Strato V a versatile and high-performing option for both standalone use and integrated home theater systems.

Additional Features of Strato V:

  • Reference Video Quality: Supports a wide range of video standards including SDR (Standard Dynamic Range), HDR10 (High Dynamic Range), and Dolby Vision to provide the best possible picture quality for any 4K display.
  • Lossless Spatial Audio: Delivers clear dialog and immersive sound effects, ensuring high-quality audio that complements the visual experience.
  • Standalone Capability: Acts as an entry-level Kaleidescape system that can function independently without the need for additional components.
  • Scalability: Offers the flexibility to add a server, allowing for more movie storage and enabling whole-house entertainment setups.
  • Ultimate Performance: Incorporates new electronics and grounding topology designed for audiophiles, ensuring top-notch audio performance.

These features further highlight the Strato V's capability to deliver a premium home entertainment experience, both visually and audibly, while offering flexibility and scalability to suit different user needs.

Wish it had 2.5Gbps ethernet given the limited capacity SSD, but I think depending on the price, this is a great new offering.

Right? That must have been an intentional decision not to pair a 2.5GbE NIC with the SSD, which is unfortunate. Maybe SSD was just a cheap & easy storage solution and they view 2.5GbE as a premium feature? Wish it had been firmware/driver limited to open up future possibilities for Terra owners …

Owning a Terra Prime, I was really hoping they’d blend storage types together to give ultra fast downloads then offload to HDD storage later. I am getting 4-7 min titles on my Terra Prime at 2Gb Internet now so could only imagine SSD speeds!

Strato V is listed at $4,000.

Still, very happy to see the new product at the right price point opening the platform to many more enthusiasts. I hope they sell a ton of them!

And DV for OLEDs is a huge win! I wonder how the content and pricing will be handled. Will we all get movie updates, small upgrade charges?

Just checked the Store and DV titles showing already. No charge for the majority of titles that I currently own in 4K to go to DV

Strato V has ideal case use to install in a second home or to give to your child or grandchild so they can share your movie library - as we know, K allows 5 systems (in five locations) on one account.
Very cool !!

Was thinking the same thing. Some higher movie prices wouldn’t seem so bad if actually utilizing it on up to five systems.

Morning all! We have officially announced the new Strato V movie player. Please take a look at our press release here: Strato V Movie Player Delivers 4K Dolby Vision with Lossless Audio

We also created a product video to go along with the launch, which will go live on social a bit later this morning.
You can watch it here:

Looks like the web page and store updates have already been discovered, but in case you missed it, take a look at the new product page here:

Interesting that "Strato V plays a different HD movie format than earlier Kaleidescape players. By launch, most but not all HD content in the store will have been transcoded to be playable on Strato V." Wonder if this means K is re-encoding the existing H.264/MPEG2 HD files to H.265 to allow for the Strato V to hold more HD movies on its 960GB SSD? I kinda doubt the SoC doesn't actually support H.264/MPEG2, especially since SD titles aren't being re-encoded.

Since the Strato C isn't being discontinued, is the price dropping on that? Why would anyone buy it if the price is the same?

Edit: Should've read the FAQ first!

Hey folks, the Dolby Vision is a great improvement, but what about this audio upgrade.

Of course, my projector doesn't have Dolby Vision, but I run a 7.2.4 Atmos setup and this sounds like a pretty sweet upgrade.

Was this a typo by K or is the C only capable of lossy 5.1, because I thought I was decoding lossless 7.1 channels on my Strato C (with my Marantz SR8015, but I could be misunderstanding.

Thoughts? Can anyone elaborate on this?

I've clicked on all the links and watched a couple of youtube videos but I haven't seen an answer. How long is the warranty of the Strato V?

Yeah, I'm confused by that too, my past experiences with the current players, and their settings interface definitely say the current Strato's can decode to LPCM 7.1.

Yeah I saw that as well. I think that they're referring to loseless, specifically DTS X/HD. Jeremy mentioned in his Youtube video that the V will decode DTS if your TV plays DTS.

Great. I'm not crazy.

Unless they're talking about the ability to send a signal to an AVR for lossless decoding vs directly to a TV. I'm curious if the Strato C might only send a signal to an AVR for lossless decoding but maybe only a lossy signal to something like a TV that cannot decode?

Maybe I'm getting wrapped around the axle on this, but this could impact where I place it if I get one or maybe even make me want to replace my C just for the audio bump.

I was initially thinking putting one by the TV for watching shows, but if there is a significant Audio bump, it may be worth pairing one in the home theater even if my PJ doesn't support DV.

GigE? Geeze guys that's enough to make Synology blush. BOM cost for a 2.5Gbe phy vs GigE is pretty trivial at this price point. That being said it's a major win to get Kscape back down to a level that many more people would consider attainable.
