Secondly we shouldn’t disregard feedback of members as mere casual observations. I keep reading comments which imho, is slightly disparaging towards members who exhibit hints of excitement through their feedbacks. Stuff like “subjective feedback” or “lacking any objective evidence” and “hyperbole” keeps floating around. I feel slightly offended by that approach.
You shouldn't. Everyone who's been around this field for a while knows that human perceptions are often unreliable -- it's why serious research uses blind testing. And even when perceptions are accurate, they don't tell the whole story without a technical underpinning.
Just look at the conversation around Moana's colors -- someone reported that the 4K Cinematic colors looked more vibrant and better. After realizing that there was no plausible mechanism for that to be true, given the improvements in 4K Cinematic, they dug deeper and corrected themselves that the 4K Cinematic colors were actually incorrect relative to other sources. Rmarci then reported a causal mechanism for why that would be true (the Kscape DV-to-HDR10 conversion bug that's incorrectly setting metadata and causing incorrect tone-mapping), and Kris Deering was able to report seeing it occur in just that fashion.
This is exactly the kind of things that's great about forums -- that knowledgeable people can dig into inexplicable observations and understand what's actually going on. Nobody should be offended by that.
