NEWS: Strato K Movie Player with 8K capability and new "4K Cinematic" full-chroma & higher bitrate support

You can't download 4K Cinematic to a Strato S because it can't play the files. That's also true with the previous Dolby Vision files.

Plus, you won't be able to group a Strato K with a Strato S without a Terra. Taking a Strato K/V/E/M out of standalone mode requires a Terra in the system.
100% sure, darn... thanks! I thought you could use an M in a second room working off a strato. But never gave the Dolby Vision any considertion. So confusing, will call them.

So we know a Lumagen doesn’t process 4:4:4 at least not yet, do we know if the MadVR envy does?

Well, lets be clear - The Lumagen Radiance Pro does not. It does 4:2:2. The Lumagen Artisan does process full 12 bit 4:4:4
Lumagen Artisan
As has been mentioned above, we need to see side-by-side screenshots that show what / if any, differences exist between 4K Cinematic 4:4:4 and 4K 4:2:2. It was pointed out very astutely earlier that the human eye is not very susceptible to Chroma compared to Luma so I am super keen to see these side by side shots.

This is great news for Kaleidescape!
This puts to rest the UHD HDR disc vs K' premium quality debate and opens up an exclusive market for the K' Strato K! Congratulations!!!!

Will I be upgrading from my Strato E? No. I don't see the point given my present viewing setup. Also the problem I was trying to solve with the Strato E purchase is still valid...I was tired of disc shipping damage and discs that wouldn't play so digital delivery solves that problem with the Strato E.

Will my next home theater have a Strato K? My lifestyle is changing and I don't know what hobbies I'll be embracing, I can't answer that question now. I'll need to sell the house I'm in now and buy the next place first.

Regarding 4K Cinematic file sizes, the 4:4:4 capability is certainly important, but I believe the sheer abundance of data carried within these files offers equally significant advantages. Beyond preserving full chroma information, the substantially higher data rates provide more image information for the display chain to work with, reducing compression-related artifacts and contributing to greater image stability, finer texture reproduction, cleaner gradients, and a more natural presentation overall. The combination of 4:4:4 processing and exceptionally large file sizes creates a foundation that allows a high-performance videowall to reveal details and subtle image characteristics that are often lost in more heavily compressed content.

Pretty sure looking at the numbers the higher data throughput is all going to be the increased bandwidth needed for the extra chroma data to maintain current standards not an increase of everything. Unless KScape say otherwise of course!

Sorry if I've missed it - I'm sure it has been discussed already, but I've had a busy day!

Are the 4K Cinematic upgrades free if you already own the 4K version of the film?

My video is up on my channel.

I too was hoping maybe we'd see a 2.5 Gbe Ethernet port on this model. I'm kind of surprised that the HDMI bandwidth on the spec sheet says up to 24 Gbps too, not the full 48. My gaming PC runs the full 48, but then again it is outputting 4K/120 at 4:4:4 or RGB not just 4K/60 or 24.

I think the real winner here is the 4Kc format. 8K is still pretty early, so I'm prepared to not get too much expectation around t

I’m wondering how much more benefit Cinematic K will bring over normal Kaleidescape HDR10 (other than satiating one’s FOMO). Before, It was already difficult, if at all possible, to tell any difference between an UHD (disc) movie and a higher bitrate Kaleidescape version of the same movie. Even telling the difference in video between a good Apple TV 4K streaming and K is not trivial. Certainly for audio, there is a very big difference in audio quality between streaming and Kaleidescape, but video differences was harder to tell. So, wondering how much more cinematic K will improve things. I’m looking forward to folks’ experiences when they get their Strato K’s!

Also, I’m wondering how well Cinematic K will work with HDMI 2.0. Many older madVR Envy’s have HDMI 2.1 output but their input is only HDMI 2.0 (I still have the MadVR envy mk1). As long as the movie is 24Hz, will Cinematic K still play fine over HDMI 2.0? My HDMI cable supposedly supports 8k and can pass 48Gbps, but that was made before HDMI 2.1 certification testing was available. So, need to test my cable further.

Why is it that Ash Sharma could download and I cannot- PLEASE SOMEONE ANSWER, i have a strato 12.
4K CInematic files can only be downloaded to Terra-class servers and the Strato K itself (when it's in standalone mode). They cannot be downloaded to other Strato players since those players cannot play that content.
Additionally, you cannot group a Strato K with a Strato. You must have a Terra-class server in the system in order to use the Strato K in grouped mode. However, if you have a mixed system with both Terra(s) and Strato(s), then the grouped Strato K can play the content that is stored on the Strato HDDs. But if the Terra is removed or powered down, the Strato K will drop into a lobby screen and be unusable until either the Terra is back online or you reconfigure the Strato K for standalone mode.

I have the same question....especially with lower end projection systems...no video processor...just a Strato->AVR->JVC RS1100/NP5 using JVC's DTM.

So much wasted hard drive space given the high cost
When it comes to the "value" of storage....Kaleidescape lives on a different planet...at which point the "value" of 1tb is not even a concern. We just have to accept it.
