NEWS: Strato K Movie Player with 8K capability and new "4K Cinematic" full-chroma & higher bitrate support

This is true of course. The source sets the ultimate resolution for the system. The question is, how much better visually and subjectively in a real cinema room is 4K cinematic over 4K? The point above about Chroma changes and how hard they are to avoid is a really good one. I want to see pretty definitive improvements with Strato K over Strato V with a Lumagen Radiance Pro doing the processing before I will think about an upgrade. Otherwise, it becomes either an unnecessary upgrade or one that comes with upgrading other expensive components like the Lumagen to the Artisan.
The Strato V already had a lot of video issues already. Some have been resolved and some are still waiting for updates. Until it was pointed out in another thread from someone that was doing frame captures and sitting right up at a flat panel, NO ONE was complaining. So the likelihood of seeing this is pretty debatable but objectively you are starting with a better source than before. Should be interesting to see how it plays out for sure!

How about giving the UI in 4K for the Strato V?
Unfortunately, we've learned that a hardware limitation in the V's chipset, so can never be fixed by software.

Some geekdom here (bear with me). I just finished updating my local spreadsheet that I use to compare disc vs KScape encode data. Everything KScape wise is educated guesses (file size divided by run time minus estimated total audio track bandwidth). Raw bitrate wise everything offered in KScape "4K Cinematic" easily gets the nod over disc (not surprising at all given their new targets).

The closest title? Sisu at 82.91 mbps average video bitrate for the 4K DV disc vs an estimated 105+ mbps for KScape's DV encode (127%).

The other end of the spectrum with the bit-starved discs is where it gets really interesting:
Star Wars: Attack of the Clones - 41.93 v 103+ (247%)
Casino Royale - 41.93 v 106+ (253%)
Toy Story 4 - 38.40 v 101+ (265%)
Ford v Ferrari - 38.93 v 105+ (271%)
Avengers: Endgame - 36.53 v 103+ (284%)

And the grand prize so far goes to:
Bohemian Rhapsody - 37.21 v 105+ (285%)

Of course, the normal disclaimer applies that bitrate doesn't always equal image quality but...that's not a small difference. 😲

Mine went on order this morning. No tracking yet. ;)

Alternately, after downloading all of your 4K Cinematic versions, you could bulk delete the non-Cinematic versions using the system's local browser interface.
How do you do that? When I go to the movie library and look at titles with multiple versions, there's only one checkbox which would remove both versions. See the image below. How do you delete a single version from this interface?

So we know a Lumagen doesn’t process 4:4:4 at least not yet, do we know if the MadVR envy does?
Doesn't really matter as almost all HDMI chains have some type of conversion in them. OSD overlays from an AVR/SSP will usually change the input/output if you use them as a switcher. Most projectors don't process in 444 either, most use 422. What really matters if that you have more data at the start. Given our sensitivity to chroma, I wouldn't worry about the chain anyway.

On top of that, with the Strato K player 4K SDR will be either 422 or 444 10 bit with these new files. For HDR10 you have to convert from DV, which is nearly always a 422 file but with a bit more precision (closer to 12 bit). So it is HIGHLY unlikely you will actually have HDR 444 EVER outside of the player upconverting. There will be no dedicated 4K HDR versions in this new file type, it has to be converted by the player from the 4K Dolby Vision file.

That makes sense. Should be interesting then to see if it’ll actually make a difference. And while I guess theoretically it can for some and depending on equipment it might not for others.

When you tick/select a title with multiple versions the button at the bottom of the page changes from "Delete" to "Select versions to delete..."
Clicking that button then pops up a window asking which version you want to delete.

I am my own dealer -bad manered person. Is one supossed to be able to download now, anyone else without an attitude please respond Eh Tu Brutus Kris.!
Why am I bad mannered? The rep from K has already posted about this IN THIS THREAD and who is going to be able to answer your question about why you specifically are having issues outside of K for files that literally only became available today? Clearly the best people to ask is K support, or a dealer (which I didn't know you were).

I'm a nobody around here but you said Strato 12, so I'm going to take a guess it won't download cinematic because it can't play it.

You can't download 4K Cinematic to a Strato S because it can't play the files. That's also true with the previous Dolby Vision files.

Plus, you won't be able to group a Strato K with a Strato S without a Terra. Taking a Strato K/V/E/M out of standalone mode requires a Terra in the system.

The fact that I am not always giving out informed statements about K like some do to get business, ehm, does not mean I am not doing important things like working with no one other than the permanent Deputy Secretary of China LED Display Applications Industry Association in developing the ultimate videowall for 12 bit 444- something this player needs badly.

Well I am very interested in upgrading to the new Strato K. I recently upgraded from a Strato C which I used for my projector to the V to use with my new LG G6 with great results. So it looks like I’m going to be selling the Strato C and V in the near future. 😀
