NEWS: Strato K Movie Player with 8K capability and new "4K Cinematic" full-chroma & higher bitrate support

Just finished watching The gentlemen (4K cinematic HRD10). Full 4:4:4. Looked awesome; clothing textures, skin tones appeared more detailed/defined. The motion was fluid as well. I always had a tough time getting through this film in past, with the 4k disc. Plus the disc is barely a shade better than the 1080 Blu-ray. Lol

10 Bit ( 30 bit color) - Is there a bottleneck in your system not to show 12 bit?

Watched my 2nd movie - the original 1961 Parent Trap in 4K_C DV (the mom-in-law was excited to see it). I wasn't particularly enthused but man it was a stunner. I can't believe they got all that out of spherical 35mm... seriously?!? Some amazing textile textures & patterns. Dad wore some shirts with rather detailed (tight) grid patterns, and they were incredibly well resolved even when he wasn't that close to the camera. I have to think the bitrate and chroma might be paying off a bit there. Houndstooth jackets with their crazy patterns - sharp as a tack. Color delineation was outstanding also - all matters of pastels - the whole menu. The colorists doing the restoration must have had a blast! My non-techie family members were actually pointing out how beautiful individual elements were. So yeah...this one's a home run!

I watched BR 2049 last night and took a screenshot of what the Strato V is doing in my system. As Attached. This is: Strato V > Lumagen Radiance Pro > Barco Bragi CS Projector.
Can clearly see that K is sending 4:2:0 and the Lumagen is doing its thing and outputting 4:2:2 to the projector.
There 'should' be a noticeable increase in quality using a new Strato K if its outputing 4:4:4 even with a Lumagen Radiance Pro and not an Artisan that will handle 4:4:4 since its starting with a better source. Adding an Artisan should be a straight 4:4:4 solution.
Ill probably have to order a K in the near future.....
Note my system does not support DV.

@Techthusiasm It would be great if you do a podcast including the esteemed @Rmarci (In case he agrees) or with another subject matter expert to unravel the alphabet soup of what various files such as Cinematic SDR HDR DV with or without a VP do in terms of picture quality (technically) ... every time I make up my mind that one file would be best in my set up I read a post and it is totally different.
Recent post by @Rmarci suggest Cinematic SDR is the most as per director's intent.
Finally people can then compare various files and decided for them what looks best in their setup and to their taste.

Has anyone ordered their K through Best Buy and received it? I placed my order a week ago Monday for delivery last Wednesday and I'm still waiting for it. BB says Kaleidescape is still processing orders, but it seems a little slower than usual. My past orders of Kaleidescape equipment through BB have always been fast, so I'm not sure what to think.

Bestbuy SUCKS! Worst place to buy Kscape products. Go through Audio Advice or Independent dealer like @Techthusiasm

Agree with Darth... I've received 4 K and all have been delivered to clients. I received another today which I ordered three days ago. Not sure what's going on with BB.

Interesting. Thanks for the information. I may end up cancelling it tomorrow and trying to order it elsewhere if they can't give me a tracking number. I was really hoping to have it by now, especially for the holiday weekend. BB has definitely let me down on this one.

K-scape has to be thrilled by the burst of early sales with the K! I hope production is keeping up.

The only real glitch I’m seeing on the forums is some inability to establish a 2.1 signal chain.

There are currently no Strato-K's in stock. Demand has been very high and initial inventory has been sold out. K is building K's as quickly as possible, but it is likely a week or two before they start shipping again. There may be a Dealer that has some in stock, but unless they confirm they currently have one to ship, you'll likely be waiting for the next release.

If you want one as soon as possible. better order now to get on the backorder list.

Jim

I get my K tomorrow and am wondering the same. Not sure everything in the chain (TV, AVR, and MadVR) will support it.
