Project Hail Mary

I think it is not fair to us for reviewers to post such 'shitty' reviews - I was so looking forward to PHM and then I saw his review and I was like... Darn... I was so looking forward to this movie!!
But then when I watched it I found the audio and video to be awesome... but the good part is that my expectations were so low and that helped.

What do you mean by "not fair to us?" Do you want the forum to protect you from all bad in the world?

You could always chose not to read it or simply ignore it. Why do you care what some low level reviewer has to say if you already know you want to watch the movie?

Take reviews (good or bad) with a grain of salt. Everyone is entitled to their piece. Use your own discretionary faculties for final validation.

I did get a chance to watch the entire movie last night and I feel that this is a good/ serviceable track. I’m not going to dismiss it as lackluster like I did initially, but I wouldn’t be showcasing it either to my buddies when they come over. I have Tron Ares & Good luck Have fun Don’t die for that purpose. There are certain aspects which I feel they could have pushed the envelope further. From that POV I can also understand from where some of the critiques emanate.

The problem I have with “Home Theater” reviewers is that they equate a good soundtrack to how much and at what volumes sound comes out of their speakers. It’s never about the use of sound in the film. There is an art behind sound design. Listen and watch the movie… not the gear!

Agreed! I think reviewers reviewing a movies soundtrack have to take the movie into context. PHM audio fit the movie well. Now if Top Gun Maverick had come out and the sounds of the Jets and such were weak then that would have been a worth a negative review. Context is important.

Now that most of you have seen the movie, what percentage would you say is widescreen vs 1.78? I’m trying to convince myself to show it at 1.78 as opposed to locking it at 2.4.

I would say around 80% is 1.78:1. But then again I have a 16:9 (165”) screen.

@Rmarci You Da Man - what would we do without you - nice data on VAR and keeping Kaleidescape straight on quality.
I had a second viewing today which was a 'Matinee', three couples with some nice wine - everyone loved the movie' the video the audio and the comedy.
The movie has 'celestial' music which adds to the feeling of connection between man and space, good work here.
I will be watching again, must buy IMHO on Kaleidesape and when the Disc comes out, it is a rewatch movie.

Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it. Very well made and the soundtrack is just fine!
