New Strato E owner - reactions & questions

I think you turn off smooth motion on the TV or set it to the Filmmaker mode which should accomplish the same thing. I actually have my LG TV converting everything to 60 FPS. I love smooth-motion and can't stand stuttering panning shots. I didn't change any settings on the actual Strato E.

Yes, "Allow Display Mode Changes" is the setting you want to allow the player to switch to 24p for movie playback.

Just became a new Strato E owner yesterday. My first foray into the K ecosystem. It’s even better than anticipated! Have watched and listened to some movie scenes and done a great deal of d2d cataloging. It is very easy to use.Now if only the price of the servers would go down!

I was in the same boat about a month ago. Consider used servers if you are looking to save money. I managed to find a great deal on a new used 48tb server that still had over 4 years of warranty.

I did the same on a used 8Tb compact server. It holds plenty of movies and allows you to use scripts effectively without worry about running out of space. I like the fact that I can add lots of movies while at the same time use the poster wall to easily find a movie. Since it is limited by 8Tb, I can still easily find the movie I'm looking for quickly since I almost always know what I'm going to watch in advance.

New Strato E owner here. Strato e to Denon avr to Sony a80k oled. My Sony shows all movies playing in Dolby vision even those that are downloaded in hdr10 and SDR. Other devices such as my Apple TV and tv’s internal apps only show Dolby vision when there is a dv source. Checked my Strato settings and dynamic range is set to automatic. Any thoughts?

Your video output behaviour is likely set to "Minimize Display Mode Changes" which is the default setting. In this mode, the player will output Dolby Vision if connected to a display that supports it. If you want HDR10 and DV output based on the content you're playing, change that setting to "Allow Display Mode Changes".

Thanks very much. That worked.

Similar setup to Mark with an OLED here. Does it make sense to change this setting to "Allow Display Mode Changes"?

It all depends on what you want to have happen. If you have a mix of HDR10 and DV content and you want the video output to be the native format, then you should configure your Strato to allow mode changes. Leaving your Strato configured to "Minimize display mode changes" can result in faster movie startup times (depending on your HDMI chain) since the Strato will output everything in either DV or HDR10 (depending on your display's capability) when playing HDR content.

If you always want HDR10 when playing HDR (DV or HDR10) content, you can also leave your video output configured to "Minimize display mode changes" and set your High Dynamic Range Format setting to "Prefer HDR10".

Which output format you choose is up to you and your preferences.

If you playHDR10 or SDR content in DV by leaving video output in minimize display mode changes, does that negatively impact the picture in any way?

To clarify: Regardless of your setting (Minimize display mode changes or Allow display mode changes), SDR content won't be output as HDR. Only HDR content (HDR10 and DV5) will be output as HDR.

There are differing opinions on whether or not there is a negative impact on the picture. I always recommend that people should experiment with the settings on their particular system and choose for themselves which setting(s) give them the best results.

I'm pretty sure my Strato V converts SDR to HDR when set to minimize display mode changes. For sure the GUI is in HDR. I can double check tonight. I certainly would prefer SDR remain as SDR.

I just confirmed that on my Strato V when in minimize display mode changes SDR is indeed output as HDR. I have been using this to minimize re-syncs but ideally would want to keep SDR as SDR. If this is not the intended behavior any other settings to check?

Hi all. On a Strato E, is there a setting or some method to not have movies download right away upon purchase?

For example, if I buy three movies at one time, it appears to download them in the order of purchase. But if I run out of storage after the first two download, and I want to watch the third movie first, I would have to delete some content in order for that third move to then download.

So I am wondering if there is a way to make a purchase, have the movie(s) queue up, and then I can later select which movie to download.

All of this is handled much better via the webstore or app, but I'll defer to others that use the on-device store more often. I've had a K for years and I think I've launched that store twice. I think the forum had this as a poll at one point and it was mostly split app and web.

I have an E and use it like you do, however, I think you are making an argument for purchasing storage.
